I got stuck with no phone, a dead battery, and no wallet one time in the country while working a job. I used gas tools only but had a few battery operated drills in my trailer. I proceeded to break a radio apart for wire, connect my car battery to a 20v dewalt battery, and start my car after waiting 10 mins to charge. It was a truly great moment hearing that engine just barely turn fast enough to fire. Oh boy.
Very creative. I have heard of jumping cars years ago by touching the bumpers, and using a coat hanger for the positive connection. Gloves recommended.
Tool batteries will definitely do it but I think they get wrecked but better than being stranded! I dont think they need to sit to charge though pretty sure you can get it going right away.
@@PapaDikpill only needed like 3 or 4 inches of wire on each terminal and yes I remember having to splice them. Typical battery powered construction type radio.

People usually act funny like if they give you a jump their car will be destroyed so they come up with all kinds of excuses not to help you. I got in such a situation in a remote town when I had sat in my car with the engine off listening to music, distracted by a girl I had gone to meet. When I turned off the radio and we went into the restaurant, it wouldn’t start when we came out and none of those folks was willing to give us a jump till a Good Samaritan drove by. I went straight to Walmart and bought one of these so I’ll never need to ask for help. I’ve helped people jump their cars with my jumper starter and it feels good to not pop my hood. Awesome videos and channel, Scotty! I've just purchased this unit and started my Audi A4 with a totally dead battery and with an 80% charge out of the box. With all the features and starting amps, I love it. I had no idea they made them this small and light. I tried some Walmart ones and they did not work on the same car. Then I found this video. I have the exact same one, the Stanley. It worked once, when I first got it and with a full charge. It never jumped a car again. I basically use it as a mobile battery with the cigarette lighter port. The lights a little handy but not by much.
Scotty, based on your recommendation here, I recently purchased a Topvision G26 car starter. I figured it could be a life saver under certain circumstances. Tonight I got my first chance to use it. Fortunately, I was at home in a heated garage, because it did not work. The voltmeter integrated into the cables read my battery at 9.5 volts, so I know I had a solid connection between the cables and the battery terminals. The G26 meter was at 100% charge, so I know the starter was fully charged. The cable assembly was firmly plugged into the slot on the G26. I thought it was odd when I opened the car door and the dome light was still dimly lit. I turned the key, and . . . nothing. I feel like I just paid $90 for an inferior flashlight . . .
@@amp12345amp I returned the G26. Replaced my battery the following day, and the car started right up. No issues with the vehicle since then, so I'm pretty sure the Topvision was defective . . .
The problem with those lithium units is that they have flimsy small-gauge power cables and you can only crank for a very short time before they overheat and turn off. If you have a car that needs extended cranking they won't work for you. You also have to wait for a while between crank attempts, and usually have to mess around holding down special buttons, etc. just to get it to provide max power. The lead-acid ones are bulky and heavy but they're better suited to the task of cranking an engine and MUCH better in terms of ease-of-use. They are starting to make ones that combine the best of both worlds. Basically all the benefits of the larger units but powered by a lithium battery.
Scotty I bought this because of your recommendation. The link you have posted did not work for me. It went to an older version that was not available. However, later after I ordered it and it arrived same day I thought I would make a post to thank you and I checked to link and now it works. Weird.... This jumper works just like you said. My black and decker charger did not have the power to start my wife’s 2016 RX 350 but topvision started it first try. Thank you for your wise advice.
I'd probably go with something like the Autowit Supercap 2. It is a supercapacitor charger. You don't have to worry about it losing charge. It used the "dead" battery's power to jump start itself. A really cool guy named Scotty did a video on it a while back and strongly recommended it. :)
HOW TO FIND SCOTTY ON THIS JUMP STARTER ... WE WOULD LIKE TO LOCATE THE INGO.. ( YES SCOTTY IS THE BEST FOR AUTO USE & ADVICE ) LOVE THAT GUYS INFO. A WORTHWILE VISIT ANY TIME FROM HIM IS USEFULL. RANOFBOSTON1AUG2023
What's cool about the bigger LA jumpers is that a lot of them are coming with air compressors built into them now, which is pretty neat. But Pro-Tip, maybe get your own tire press gauge to verify the built-in one is calibrated correctly.
I appreciate knowing which one of those jump-starting devices REALLY works. So many brag about working but are flops. Because of your video I've got one coming. Thanks for the down and dirty facts, keep up the great videos. Bradcrafter
Personally, I use the NOCO Genius Boost GB70.... It has saved me twice and even got to help out someone on the job... Once fully charged, it can hold a charge for over a year or more... Talking from my own experience...
Yup . . . NOCO is the best IMO. I have had my GB70 for a year. I keep it in a double flame proof bag and try to avoid storing it in severe temps for long periods. Dont rapid charge it either. Great jump battery. Look it up on RUclips.
uh,,,, He did pay attention. He didn't say 'never' to use, just suggested to go with the newer tech. Head over to Big Clive's channel where he does a tear-down or two of these jump packs that have failed. I think you'll be surprised.
He should have said Never buy... It's old tech that still works. But if you're buying, go lithium. My Black & Decker jump starter , air pump is 6 years old and works great.
First off I love you videos Mr Scotty secondly I'm in dire need of one of those jump starters. I live in North Carolina the temperature get down to 21° one night when I came out of work and it killed my battery. I went to Walmart and bought an EverStart Maxx with the LED light air compressor and also a USB connection. I plugged it in immediately when I got home and I cannot get this thing to turn on. Thank God I saved the receipt
Thanks for all of the advice you've given to us all and it's been a life and money saving event, I appreciate your work as a mechanic that's outright honest, keep up the great work Scotty Kilmer, would love to talk with you one day in person!!!
Thank you. I could not get the jump-starter to work until I connected the- POS & the NEG -then turned on the on switch. (Attching it to the frame, per the instructions, wasn't working.) Now that I did what you said, my 2014 Chevy Tahoe started right up.
You caught my attention I’m a female with grand girls and that would help me with my Chevrolet truck you were very informative I will continue to listen to to your channel I do need one of these Thk u
I don't doubt that one is decent but Audew is one of the best in many test comparisons, beats most every one and it only costs 29.99 for the same amount of power. ( actually more powerful)
Arent those ones expensive? Regardless, I'll stick with li ion. They are very reliable and will start a completely flat battery, which the capacitor ones won't do, you need some juice plus you have to wait for it to juice up!
I also bought Scotty's recommended super capacitor unit. It works but I personally will stick to using my giant and really heavy lead acid battery jump starter. The reason for this is it's just a real car battery housed in a plastic shell. If my car's battery every fully crapped out I would just run the car on the jumper pack.
Congratulations, you can also use the search function in video tab to find videos faster that interess you or related to your vehicle's repair needs. Enjoy
I used the Topvision Jump Starter for the first time today, and I was a little surprised it worked! Jump Starter battery went from *100% -> 96%* after jump start. Thank you Scotty! 😃
@@rockoyouthman Thanks for the information. Nothing beats an actual user review. The lithium battery units still go weak over time without periodic recharging, if you believe the reviews, so the ultra-capacitor type sounded like a winner.
I've had a lead acid one with a couple USB ports and an auto 12v outlet that stays plugged in. Everyone uses it from charging phones to using 12v devices when not in the car. It has even been used in the backseat of the car to provide additional power outlets. It has started all the cars, trucks and my tractor over and over. It also has a tire pump which is used but not often. The LED lights are used during every power outage as an emergency area light.Would you be surprised to hear it is 7+ years old? Yes I know it may fail at any time. It has paid for itself dozens and dozens of times.
Tried to jump start my 2003 Chevrolet Suburban with the old school jump pack but it would not crank even though the pack was fully charged. Wish I had seen this video sooner and learned it is safe to connect to the negative post when the unit is switched off. Thanks for yet another informative video!

Thanks for putting all these video's up Scotty. Your experience and advice make me want to learn more about repairing my vehicles on my own. Keep it up.
I have the Stanley, although the 1200 version. Mine is about four years old and I've used it six different times on my and others vehicles. Works flawlessly and...yes...it is lead acid and is still going strong.
Most of us carry jumper cables around in our vehicles; sounds like one of these little dudes would be good to have too!! Rare to see Scotty actually like something!! :)
If you have a phone and at least 1 friend with car, you don't even need to invest in this. Better save money for the next thing that certainly needs replacing (knock on wood) :)
Some tow truck companies are using those. Less time and hassle for them to just hook that up to jump-start the customer's car versus needing to get the truck beside the car and hook up jumper cables.
I have a lithium ion battery jump starter and needed to troubleshoot a wiper pump motor. I thought for sure that it had enough power to test the motors. The problem is that the electronics inside the charger sees a direct short from the low resistance winding of the motor. The jump starter's short protection circuit kicked in and the charger powered off. I tried this on several new pumps with the same results. This wouldn't have happened with my old lead acid starter. Just saying. By the way, I absolutely love this channel.
Love your videos. I really enjoy when you answer viewers questions, because often times they’re important questions that I haven’t thought to ask myself. Keep up the good work Scotty! 🔥
I love your videos, Scotty! I'm subscribed and watch your videos daily! Thanks to you, I've learned so much about cars over the years. Keep up the great work!
I have been watching this man for a year now. Much knowledge. Then as soon as I turn on RUclips. He was my first video. And I am in the market for a jump starter. Till I seen this video, now it made me relook at what I am really looking for a jump starter. Shakraan Lak شكرا لك (!Thank You)
No revolution in battery technology, so go for it. Better grab a bit "older model" that has been tested by time, then risk it with something unproven. Plus, it's probably a BIT cheaper now too.

I thought it was odd when I opened the car door and the dome light was still dimly lit. I turned the key, and . . . nothing.
I feel like I just paid $90 for an inferior flashlight . . .
@William Bracale....did you ever find out if it was a problem with the Topvision unit or something else?
@@amp12345amp I returned the G26. Replaced my battery the following day, and the car started right up. No issues with the vehicle since then, so I'm pretty sure the Topvision was defective . . .
When I put positive on positive and negative on negative my car began to talk and left to find the “allspark”
Is that the spark you are talking about?
Lamfao ....love this
*picard facepalm*
Lithium batteries work pretty well in colder temperatures too.
Thanks, Scotty
"If you have to use the charger to start your car a 1000 times, there is something wrong with your car"
Don't give up your day job to become a comedian.
@@busterbruce2116 dude he's quoting the video
I'd probably go with something like the Autowit Supercap 2. It is a supercapacitor charger. You don't have to worry about it losing charge. It used the "dead" battery's power to jump start itself. A really cool guy named Scotty did a video on it a while back and strongly recommended it. :)
surprised he didn't mention all 3 types!

Personally, I use the NOCO Genius Boost GB70.... It has saved me twice and even got to help out someone on the job... Once fully charged, it can hold a charge for over a year or more... Talking from my own experience...
Same, no others compare to noco.
Yup . . . NOCO is the best IMO. I have had my GB70 for a year. I keep it in a double flame proof bag and try to avoid storing it in severe temps for long periods. Dont rapid charge it either. Great jump battery. Look it up on RUclips.
@@MoneyShot702 Check out the JNC325...coming soon! :)
I got one of those old lead acid starters. Scotty, you had me worried there for a moment.
So which jump starter should I 'never' use?
lead acid bro. pay attention.
uh,,,, He did pay attention. He didn't say 'never' to use, just suggested to go with the newer tech. Head over to Big Clive's channel where he does a tear-down or two of these jump packs that have failed. I think you'll be surprised.
@@Tedybear315 thanks for your comment.
He should have said
Never buy...
It's old tech that still works.
But if you're buying, go lithium.
My Black & Decker jump starter , air pump is 6 years old and works great.
The lead-acid jump start boxes work better, have better capacitance and have better reserve capacity.
Clean, non-offensive comment. BTW, I watch all of your videos. They are very informative for a non-gearhead like me.
Now if you had a trickle charger in the trunk it would be perfect.....always 100%!
Thanks Scotty.
Love the new intro Scotty!! Keep up the great work sir. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you!!
Love your videos, that power pack beats jumper cables anytime.
Best channel on RUclips about everything car related!
You caught my attention I’m a female with grand girls and that would help me with my Chevrolet truck you were very informative I will continue to listen to to your channel I do need one of these
Thk u
As usual Scotty nails it! The man's videos should be required learning!!
I always park downhill if car have questionable batteries ... Gravity have the best amps....
Sharepie the Chrysler warranty explains that fact and is highly suggested.
As long as you drive a manual.

Yeah put it in 3rd gear , let it roll and strol
Fun watching all your shows for years. Great info and light humor from a genius. Fix me many times, thanks Scotty.
I don't doubt that one is decent but Audew is one of the best in many test comparisons, beats most every one and it only costs 29.99 for the same amount of power.
( actually more powerful)
I bought one of the super capacitor jump starters you reviewed a few months ago. Ill never go back to a battery based starter again!!!
They all are battery based!🤦♂️
@@edwardthayer9386 nope
Sounds expensive
Arent those ones expensive? Regardless, I'll stick with li ion. They are very reliable and will start a completely flat battery, which the capacitor ones won't do, you need some juice plus you have to wait for it to juice up!
I also bought Scotty's recommended super capacitor unit. It works but I personally will stick to using my giant and really heavy lead acid battery jump starter. The reason for this is it's just a real car battery housed in a plastic shell. If my car's battery every fully crapped out I would just run the car on the jumper pack.
Thank you for this useful information! My lead battery starter I think is starting to go bad.
Just found this guy, been binge watching alot of his videos. Can't get enough!

I was thinking about getting one of those too. Thanks again for your wisdom and advice

Noco GB40 is a beast. I started a small school bus from flat dead, and everything else I’ve thrown at it helping my friend at her garage.
Watch the group review that has over 2M views. That noco is apparently not the best.
Glad i didnt buy one of those $180 stanley jump starters earlier this year, i returned it after unboxing it lol
I used the Topvision Jump Starter for the first time today, and I was a little surprised it worked! Jump Starter battery went from *100% -> 96%* after jump start. Thank you Scotty! 😃
I really like the idea of the ultra-capacitor jump starter you've touched on in a previous video.
comlbbeau I bought it and it was a total fsilure
This is one of those videos that I simply can't resist subscribing to and hitting the like button.
Ima buy this but Ill wait to see if I win one from Scotty 1st!!!! 🤗👍🏻
I'm glad you showed the one that works best. I'll tell my friends. I only knew of the old one. Thank you Scotty for your great advice. 🔔
Tried to jump start my 2003 Chevrolet Suburban with the old school jump pack but it would not crank even though the pack was fully charged. Wish I had seen this video sooner and learned it is safe to connect to the negative post when the unit is switched off. Thanks for yet another informative video!
Just in time.
I was ready to replace my old jump pack that no longer works, and I would have made the same mistake again, thank you Scotty
Careful. The lithium jump packs don't have the reserve capacity like lead acid do. Also seem to be higher failure rate.
That lithium battery jumpe starter , would be great 👍 to help rew up my engine. 😉
Thanks for the info Scotty. Always appreciated.
Well I need a Top vision battery jumper. I learned something today.

I have the Stanley, although the 1200 version. Mine is about four years old and I've used it six different times on my and others vehicles. Works flawlessly and...yes...it is lead acid and is still going strong.
I bought the Topvision jump starter and now I can't wait to have a dead battery.
Just leave your lights on overnight. ;)

Scotty: "I'm taking my show to a higher plane of existence.
Some tow truck companies are using those. Less time and hassle for them to just hook that up to jump-start the customer's car versus needing to get the truck beside the car and hook up jumper cables.
SCOTTY GOT ME ROLLING ON THE FLOOR. 😂
I Always love watching your video's, always informative.
This is very valuable information. Thank you for sharing with us!

Is this the jump starter you still recommend as of December 2019?
No revolution in battery technology, so go for it. Better grab a bit "older model" that has been tested by time, then risk it with something unproven. Plus, it's probably a BIT cheaper now too.
