As someone who struggled with highlighting edges for years, I'm very appreciative of the detailed tips of how to holding the brush and miniature, cleaning the brush between strokes, and highlighting the edges. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make this video. I was about to give up do these technique.
I realised while editing that I never really covered edge highlighting in any detail so I chose not to speed up the footage and try and give all the advice I wished I'd gotten when I first tried it.
This is still one of my all time favorites of your videos! Fantastic job of explaining everything in a simple manner and dropping a wealth of tips for the rest of us mortals.
Fantastic job!! I've been looking for someone that painted it to look more like a faded or weathered black with the grey highlights, not blue. Grey definitely looks better and you gave several great tips for painting my army. Thank you for helping this newbie and look forward to more videos
Awesome tutorial. All the small tips like how rest your hands, how to fix mistakes and how often to clean your brush and refresh the paint, were super helpful. I won't be using this for every model but for the HQs and some key units I'll be trying it for sure!
This is genuinely incredible, you've made something so terrifying so simple. I'm gonna use this for my Judicar Grim reaper angel conversion I'm making and my sisters of battle, thank you so much
Jim Pattie haha, i'm in the same boat. I'll keep my old-marines unchanged, but the few primaris i've done I'll redo. I may see if Vallejo have a Blue/Black pre-mixed paint.
YOU ARE SOOOOOO much better than warhammer TV crap, you expalin so much better and i am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids, your videos has subtitles which i can understan you completly as warhammer TV is useless and doesn't have subtitles option. anyways thank you again and im subbing and liking your videos
Would it look the same if I base it with abaddon black and coat it with Kantor blue? Would it be better if I mix 1:1 from the pot and base the model? The color is amazing I just don’t want to mess it up for not spraying. Thanks!
Well now Black is no longer problematic to me! Do you have Any advice on eliminating the “chalky look” when glazing light colors like white and flesh tones mainly ? Filter Wash after I am done ? That’s all I can think of......
That normally happens when you haven't let the paint dry fully before applying more. I use a hairdryer or air from my airbrush to make sure each coat is completely dry before applying more.
Hello! From the video you said you mixed the Vallejo PU Primer with the Kantor 50/50 and later you use a GW Abaddon black/Kantor mix. Did you find any issues with the primer being mixed with other paints and also how close of a match is the GW vs Vallejo mix? Thanks a load!
The pigment is more finely ground so the finish is much smoother and less grainy. Tbh the VMA metallics are some of the best acrylic metallic paints you can buy.
Rob - "...I'm using the edge of the tip of the brush..."
Me - "I'm screwed."
-Confidently nods head. "ah, yes."
-Throws my base-coated deathwatch squad right in the trash.

So many good tips! Thanks for the video. I really appreciate that you describe what you are doing instead of just going "Apply an edge highlight."
I realised while editing that I never really covered edge highlighting in any detail so I chose not to speed up the footage and try and give all the advice I wished I'd gotten when I first tried it.
Thank you for this great video. I think it's the best video about black armour painting all around you tube.
Probably the best video on youtube i have watched explaining how to edge highlight effectively. Your videos are great!

Really nice indeed. I'm a big fan of using blue/greys to highlight black
Many thanks for the vid. Will now have to strip my deathwatch and redo. Great tips.

Awesome tutorial. Great tips & theory also. Thanks

Beautiful !
Awesome I was looking at how to paint my skarbrands black armor
Well done!!
If you would plz clarify, the color we are seeing is just Abaddon black and Kantor blue? Or is there an additional coat of Abaddon black? Thank you!

thank you...very good job
Do you remove a lot of paint from the brush before you highlight? Almost looks as though you’re dry-brushing edges.
beautiful tutorial, tell me the thickness of the brush?
Олег Цыкоза о, наши
Do you think death company might be better off with just regular black?
May be it's just me but feels like you went crazy with the white dots
How does it look so glossy doesn't look like that for me with my airbrush
Great tutorial. What's the song from? It sounds so familiar to me and it's bugging me I can't remember!
Hi, great paint like usual. Can you tell what brush and size for the highlights did you used.
Thanks and happy new year.
That is a Brokentoad Size 0.
RobPaintsModels thank you Rob

Really great tutorial but I would prefer it without music. +1 Sub

I find Abaddon Black and Vallejo Black Primer are identical even down to their finish.
He didn’t say he did both, I think he is saying either or!
Hey Rob, Why do you prefer VMA Gungray to Citadel Ironbreaker?
The pigment is more finely ground so the finish is much smoother and less grainy. Tbh the VMA metallics are some of the best acrylic metallic paints you can buy.
jobs a gud un boss!
Leather episode 2?
Leather is in episode 3 however it's not dissimilar to how I painted it on the Custodes video.

It's coming later this month.
