    Music stands as one of humanity's most ancient and revered art forms, serving as a profound expression of the human spirit. When songs are exclusively composed by artificial intelligence, they become devoid of the intrinsic soul that characterizes genuine artistry. The result is a sterile and emotionless product, lacking the depth and resonance that evoke true feeling.

      That's not true, especially if you're experienced with music production and understand how AI works. AI is trained on soul containing music, so it spits out soul containing music. If people can't tell the difference between AI music and human music, then certainly the soul isn't missing.

      @@hallo9356 interesting take, which is where I feel conflicted because I know that we’re all in a simulation anyway, so how is one layer deeper any different? I see what you’re saying. But I think we should try to protect our side of reality rather than accepting the recreation, OR an optimistic look would be that we can evolve into something better.

    An issue a lot of people have with AI is that the innovations are going in the wrong direction. Instead of the technology primarily being used to do our household chores for us to give us time to create art, it's being used to create art while we still have to do our household chores ourselves.

    The future of music (and most media we consume) will be personalized and more temporal, present, and impermanent. It will be custom and bespoke for the listener-not a media artifact that is bought or sold-but rather digested and archived/discarded.

    Definitely an interesting conversation. I'm a full time Graphic Designer and have been putting out records and touring for the last 5 years. I definitely don't think that writing a prompt itself is a creative undertaking. Creativity, IMO, involves ideation and then completion. Prompting an AI to create something only covers the former. It does raise an amazing question though: what prompt would you have to give an AI to spit out King Park by La Dispute?
    I think using AI artwork discounts the music. It's passable, but it's not going to help you brand your band in a way that will make you stand out. Bands like Static Dress are showing how far a curated aesthetic on top of great music can still take you. People may say your hand is forced because of price, but there are infinite ways to make creative art for the time and cash poor. You just have to value it as part of the process of your project. If you don't value your music as a whole package? (music, artwork, video, supplementary content) then by all means skimp out on certain parts, but it's not going to go unnoticed by your potential audience.
    The other part of this is community loss. The more you use AI the more insular your creative process becomes. So much of being successful as a touring band can ride on the relationships you make with other creatives. I'm willing to eat my old man hat on this in 10 years when we see kids raised on this shit start creatively abusing the technology in the same way myspace kids in their bedrooms did. But at the moment there just isn't anything inspired about anything to do with AI.

    • @PetexZen
      @PetexZen  5 месяцев назад

      True, AI couldn’t touch la dispute at the moment, but that’s the scary thing is give it two years and the database/prompts will be better. Very rarely have a found a band and knew the art was AI art and I thought the AI art was sick so that’s still not there yet but there’s been some deathcore or darker bands that have used that dark fantasy art and then built a layout around that that I thought was sick and pulled me into listen to the music which hurts my soul but it worked for them. Maybe we should be more protective of what’s fully creative?

    • @user-yk4gd1fl4z

    • @JeffFinley

      King Park by La Dispute is a masterpiece. But I wonder if it would have been written in today's age and if listeners today would even care. It's just a different time. I feel like the future is AI generated bespoke music created by the listener. More temporal and impermanent. I've experimented with having AI write lyrics based off some journal entries and dumping those into Suno and listen to the tracks it made me. Some brought me to tears, not because it was *good* in any sense of the word, but it felt cathartic to work through my problems in this way that's differen than say therapy, self help, or by listening to other artist's creations. You're also seeing this done with podcasting with NotebookLM... you give it content to chew on and it creates a bespoke podcast about it. A totally new way to learn and understand that I find very exciting. I've also worked with AI to write a fiction novel with characters struggling with emotions and philosophies that I'm grappling with myself. This type of content is personal and not intended to be put out in public, let alone to "build my fanbase" with it like any other artist.

    Honestly I don’t see how there is any argument how AI won’t take over music. It doesn’t mean it will be overnight though. It’s hard enough to get a job as a full time musician but this will be even harder in the future. Musicians are doing it to themselves. They aren’t helping graphic designers is anyway by avoiding AI art. The same people using AI art on their albums are the same people who will be giving out that AI took them out of a job.

    • @BijuSharman
      @BijuSharman 5 месяцев назад

      True. Musicians may avoid real grapic designers, Labels may skip real musicians haha we cant blame AI as we use and as he mentioned , technology anyways has been there for decades. Music producers avoided costs for getting real guitarists etc . But as some one who left corporate job to pursue career in music, it is bit scary to me. Yes, in future the 'art' would be to just come up with great prompt etc but how easy is that and what would be the demand/supply ratio....The only thing that pacifies me is, eve the job ( in fact every job) is replacable by AI, so atleast do what you love before the dooms day 😀

    Def a cool idea to use ai as a tool to be a starter for building a demo. I dont see the problem with it. Ai is going to be extremely useful for mixing too. I think mixing engineers will still have jobs. They will probably just have to adjust to learn how to mix with ai and it will most likely be easier once dealing with the learning curve. Cool topic to talk about!

    When you consider that ~120,000 songs are uploaded to streaming services every day and add AI into the mix, I would expect that number to rise further. There is a so much music to sift through to find what you like as a consumer and as an artist or producer, it's so hard to get noticed above the noise, marketing and exposure are going to be more important than ever. At the end of the day, do people really care if a song was crafted by AI? More and more AI voice models are becoming available. Will the average listener be able to tell if the song was written by AI and will they ultimately care?

    • @PetexZen
      @PetexZen  5 месяцев назад

      I think the general public won’t care if it’s AI if they start seeing their friends enjoying it as well so it depends on the way this leans. Right now I have trouble hearing AI voices but I bet younger people can tell instantly, but in 6 months they won’t be able to tell anymore which is why I made this video now. I think it’ll be crazy to see in two years where this video landed. Thanks for watching homie

What no one mentions or doesn't know is AI generated art, music right from AI can't get a copyright! So unless humans like myself and take AI and use it to create art from me, I can't stop anyone else from using it. This also means companies like Suno and Udio can't produce anything that can get a copyright until it's redone by a human. I am an AI researcher, though a bit more theory oriented. I don't know what the future will hold for music producers, but you sound to be smart and a hard worker so stay ahead of the curve. A few comments, though. 1) Prompting can be more than just text prompting, with Suno you can already prompt with sounds, but in the future you might be able to prompt with images or videos as well. 2) If you are not skilled in how to prompt, it is really hard to get good output so it still requires creativity. If you notice, most of what Suno outputs sounds like generic filler songs. That is probably okay for stock music, though or for creating formulaic "hits". You can get even better results by prompting with lyrics that you've written. 3) I am guessing in the future, it should be possible to get more control over AI. Right now there is nothing in between something like Suno or Udio and a lot of the dedicated tools. ... Also, if you stretch how you think a bit more, classical composers and songwriters in generally are primarily "prompters". Sheet music can be regarded as a form of prompting.
