    Introvert ≠ Badly written
    - His mother's death
    - The expulsion of his people
    - Trying to combine his own agenda with the brotherhood's one
    - Killing his best friend
    - Being betrayed by the ones who promissed a better future in the continent
    - Killing one of his father figure and watching the other die
    - Trying to find a new home in a place that seemed so alien at first
I understand how Ezio and Edward are so likable... But how a lot of people have seen these same cutscenes and think that Connor has no personality or no development?

Altair and Ezio are like Aang while Connor is like Korra. A lot of Korra haters hate her character because she is the very opposite of the previous Avatar, Aang. They cite "bad development, poor judgements, immature actions" but it all boils down to them comparing a spiritually matured and enlightened Aang to the hothead underdog Korra.
Similarly, people will still dislike Connor because they're still under the spell Altair and Ezio gave. Plus, AC3 was the first game who dropped the "Assassin" from Assassins Creed. Connor, as an Assassin, felt more like a henchman or a hired blade by Washington.

In the end, Charles and Haytham respected Connor’s abilities. Haytham told Connor he was proud of his noble qualities. Charles proceeded to ask Connor why he persists despite their efforts to end the Assassins. I like how Charles offers Connor a drink. They drank like war buddies before ending it all.

What makes it especially great is that it’s deliberately a bit of a vague answer. It’s meant to be open to the player’s interpretation of why Connor really is passionate about all of this. There is plenty of right answers to this. Whether it be that Connor wanted revenge against what the templars did to his own life, or was he just that much of a noble soul filled with justice that he wanted to rid the world of evil however he could and felt that nobody else was doing a damn thing about it, everyone else’s guesses are as good if not better than mine.

    • @bobbyturkalino5094

@@Kiner-ug1mw haytham was proud for his own selfish reasons. He had a great deal of respect for Connor and actually admired him for what he believed in. But whether it had any sort of love for him as his son is highly debatable and rather unlikely. Haytham was highly pragmatic and self serving, and whatever good that COULD have existed in him was no match for his malice, ruthless nature and his devotion to the templars. Haytham only had any sort of pride in Connor because HE was the one who made him, and it complimented him in a way. Anyone could put a positive spin on why he saved Connor all the times that he did, but I personally feel like it was for the sake of preserving him to use him as a pawn for his own needs. Haytham didn’t have the same heart or soul as his own father, and that clearly skipped a generation down to Connor. Edward would have been the one to be proud of Connor, but overall in yet another opinion of mine, the fundamentals that made Connor who he was didn’t involve having anybody who personally meant something to him still existing in his life. Connor fought for justice because he had nothing left, and he had nobody left in this world to cheer him on for doing it. Which is why he felt like nobody would do what he was doing

Connor is seen as a less likeable character because he is a man of few words but the dude is literally traumatized. He doesn’t have an agenda or a motive other than avenging his village because of what he had seen and been through. There aren’t many games where they reflect the emotions of the main character in regards to the violence they are exposed to but the violence he experienced as a young boy is what drove him to keep it from happening to anyone ever again. And no matter how many times he was told he would die, or what he would do was impossible, he kept going. In the end there was no celebration for his return. Nobody there to pat him on the back. But he didn’t need that. He just needed to hold on long enough to take that hatchet out of the post and that was good enough for him. He was doing it for the young child he once was just as much as for his village. If that is not good character design I don’t know what is

His quest for vengeance evolved and molded with his sense of purpose for ridding the world of evil. He knew that he alone could never accomplish such a task, only that he could do something about the evil that had accosted him and that was more than enough. In the end, he knew he was nothing more than a speck in the universe, and even though his job was done, he hoped that his legend could inspire others to do the same. He was conceived in contrast via haytham (of all people) and a woman who belonged to a tribe that never asked to be a part of the revolution that was forced upon them, and he didn’t even need to choose sides. He knew what was right and what was wrong. I only hope that we get to find out that in his later years he managed to find solace after everything he had been through.

Connor was hated by fans because he wasn't as likable as Ezio, which is a valid point but it's a little unfair. I don't think this game was trying to live up to all of the Assassin's Creed games before it. It was trying to be something different for the franchise. It knows that it can't match up to the legacy of the older games but nonetheless still be a great game. Connor is a very well written character because you at least got to understand his journey and what led him to this path of being a more serious character with a tragic life. His life wasn't easy. He had to witness and bare all of the pain over and over again and he would still continue to fight on despite it. Yes, Ezio went through pain as well, but for Connor it was way worse. How does one choose to be charaismatic and charming and loveable with the circumstances and situations faced like Connor? I am not trying to defend Connor as the best character ever because obviously he's got nothing on Ezio. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that this was the worst character ever just because he wasn't as likeable as Ezio. That was its own legacy. AC3 wasn't trying to replicate that but rather push on for a different point of view with a more brutal story that was personal for this character. Heavily underrated honestly. Not perfect but heavily underrated.

The colonial era was one of the few times I understood the templars. Haytham was raised under both ideologies so you see why it becomes a gray and gray morality in the truest sense. But you also see the fatal flaw in both of their ideologies. Unity gets a lot of flack but at least initially they understood that they weren’t so different. Prejudice on both sides will always get in the way.
