  • ‪@sidewalks22‬ & I collaborated recently to document outside some of the high end shops & restaurants in the area. Most all the shops we were recording , security came out either wanting to know if & why we were recording the store & who were we specifically recording. another encounter we had was from an individual who if not mistaken claimed to be Nicolas Batum (NBA basketball player). I was honest & told him I had no clue who that was. He was supportive of our documenting & offered to take us to get some Gucci. Although some might be saying I should have taken him up on the offer, the high end labels don't do anything for me. When I got home I did look up the name & he really didn't look like the person he was claiming to be .
Shout out to Sidewalks22 for joining me for this collaboration!

Probably because they aren't as wealthy as the customers and they wish they were. Also, working there around the wealthy customers gives them a false belief that they too are wealthy and they display the same attitude to the public that I'm sure a lot of the customers display to them.

they can get a permit to put their tables or advertisement on the public sidewalk but they can't stop ppl from walking through it. Restaurants do it the most. And, it's annoying. Some places think, since they can do that, it must mean it's their property but it's not. It's like a easement.

Not sure about California but in my state you can lock the doors as long as there's an employee at the door at all times to let people freely exit. It's sickening that so few people know their rights, and therefore know that what you are doing is legal. I mean in what world does that make sense? It's even more comical that they would then put up a barrier that you can still see through AND block the public sidewalk! And guess what: There are many things that people around you didn't ask you to do, but you don't feel like you need _them_ to ask you to do, but you do them anyway, right? Like... you could be sitting on a chair on a sidewalk somewhere and eating, and nobody had to ask you to do that, but you would do it anyway, right? Plenty of other things you can do around other people that you don't have to get asked by them to do, but you would do them anyway, right?
And you're right, this video was made with the intent not to profit from others being uncomfortable, which is why I'm glad you said "off of...." It was made for educational purposes on both ends, because rights are like muscles; if we just sit back and do nothing, then over time they'll possibly get eroded down to hardly anything. These guys may just be exercising. But if you would love to see a tourist making a documentary of his or her trip get shut down from videoing stores around by police because somehow it had become actually become _legal_ for them to do stop tourism documentaries from getting made, because our rights loss had escalated to the point where some law could be made that even so much as pointing a camera towards any building without that building managers permission could cause you to get charged with some sort of "violation of privacy 'crime'," because these rights exercisers and others like them were not out there helping to keep the reminders of our rights afloat, then that makes _you_ a miserable person, _not_ me; who should move to a place like North Korea where residents and visitors' birth-given rights are probably recognized very little, if even at all. Tyrant.

People record things all the time, not an issue. But to set up cameras in someone’s direction while taunting them and hoping for a reaction is just wrong.
The video may be 27 minutes long, but they were there for much much longer, along with taunting that was not featured in the video. Yet, they chopped and screwed the footage to make it seem like people are overreacting for no reason. And that is just morally wrong.

After all of these years of first amendment audits, there is zero excuse for any business to not know what is happening when someone with a camera shows up and starts recording.
And it is amazing that they build, buy, or lease a building next to a public street and with a pubic sidewalk, with large windows specifically designed for people to look through and see what is inside and the start soiling their depends when someone with a camera legally records what they can see through those windows.
And blocking the public sidewalk without a permit is considered to be an offense against the law.
A camera is the witness that never lies and can not be intimidated. That is why cops, public officials, and other criminals fear being recorded by the public.
