The F1 chassis is a TRF101W, part number 42279. The Ferrari 643 body was never originally released as a kit, just as a body set part number 50443. The body was re-released as kit number 84194 on the F104 platform.

When i was a kid in the 90s i had the Tamiya Fighter Buggy, white body shell with yellow wheels. 6 nimh packs. Saturday morning i was out to the nearby park bashing for hours. My mom picked me up for lunch several ours later. During lunchtime i could recharge some of my batteries in 45 min. Then I went out to play again. Good memories.

I totally WAS that kid looking at Tamiya commercials on TV, Tamiya cars in my friends backpacks, and drooling over Tamiya cars at the LHS. But my first Hobby grade RC in 1986 was not a Tamiya. I wish it was. It was a Kyosho Pegasus. But after it broke enough times and I couldn't get parts (didn't know about mail order) I ended up getting a Blackfoot in 87. After that it was all about Racing when I got the version 2 of the RC10 in late 87 or 88 and Losi JRX2 as soon as it came out. FUN TIMES!!!!!!!
Now to this collection. SO AWESOME!!! I need to get a few Tamiya kits. But I don't think I could ever get myself to drive them.

I had the original Blackfoot, now own the Wild One, Willys 2, Blitzer Beetle, Grasshopper 2 and Hotshot (yet to be built), all these are re-releases. These cars all have tons of character and are fun to modify. The draw back IMO with stock Tamiya kits was always speed, but with a Tamiya Super Stock RZ/BZ motor, Hobbywing 1060 and 2-3S Lipo you can push enough speed to be happy. There is always the brushless option too.

Raced a frog in 83-84. Was a good car in the stock class. Burned out the stock speed control and differential too many times. To upgrade the diff to brass was about $50 back then. I think the car was only $115. Really killed it once when went into a curb full speed in reverse. That gear box imploded and also broke most of the frame. Ah, good times back then.

The tt-02 and and things like that are still used as modern touring cars against fazers and things, but the things like the grasshopper are just play cars. I definetely want to get a play tamiya and make it stupid fast. A sleeper RC!

People appreciate these cars for what they are 👍 No secret about that, nostalgia sells! Tamiya was a pioneer, for sure, but to call them an innovator, is stretching things a bit?

@@jerryvolpini7987 I was a kid then and my parents ran a RC hobby store. They totally were an innovator. Started with static scale plastic model tanks and planes, added a new larger model tank with simple non RC motor control for the tracks, that was a first, it was a hot seller, so they introduced the expensive xr 411 cheetah which was really a detailed RC controlled scale model with real suspension, a bit fragile but it wasn't a serious race car, ditto, hot seller, then came out with the much stronger fully water and dust proof semi scale rough rider and sand scorcher which were based on real off roaders with scale metal suspension that could take proper abuse and go fast, and started an industry. They then moved into fun RC with the Willy's Wheeler and Wild Willy which had nice scale bodies but robust plastic running gear. Then introduced the no frills no pretence of being a scale model hot selling Hornet and then Frog. They really were innovative and started an industry. Every RC car can trace its roots back to those early Tamiya cars. They seemed to have 6 new cars every few months. Even the scale, 1/10 was Tamiya innovation. Early 80s 99% of all RC cars were tamiyas. By 1982 or 3 lots of companies were jumping on the RC bandwagon and most made a better product.

I’m a bit surprised the Tamiya TT-02 chassis isn’t on this list considering it’s truly one of the most famous beginner chassis that everyone can afford to buy 🤔
