Same here. Been playing stringed instruments since I was 11 years old. Only reason why I play everything right handed is because that’s how my mother taught me to play them. And from watching all my music idols playing their instruments right handed, I just assumed that’s how it was done and just stuck with it. 😅
I'm left handed, played right for three decades. I switched to left a year ago, and I don't regret it. My rhythm playing is better than it ever was playing RH, and my arm doesn't get tired - which is important, because I play metal!
I’m left handed but play bass right handed because when I started playing left handed basses weren’t common and much more expensive and my parents couldn’t afford so I begged and they got me a second hand RH Bass and now left handed feels completely alien.I’m looking forward to watching you progress 🤟🤟
You too? Great stuff. As I said on Dave's channel, I am a left-handed player but my first access was to a right-handed instrument, so I started off learning (or trying to learn) basic chords upside-down, until one day I had the 'brainwave' of actually swapping the strings over. Good luck!
This reminds me so much of how it was when I first learned guitar, you and Dave are very brave to try this, it sounded like a mad plan at first. Im curious to see, if your overall playing will improve by this.
Two things I can think of commenting on: 1. The bass strung lefty looks still intonated for righty. 2. I tried righty when I was a teen and I had absolutely no proper timing whatsoever, despite playing clarinet fairly decently in elementary school. Once I flipped the guitar over, I had the timing I knew I was capable of and haven't tried to play righty since. All that said, good luck on your challenge to yourself. I hope you get further along playing lefty than I ever did playing righty.
Good luck, Cici. It'll be fascinating to see how you and Dave get on with this. Out of curiosity, just tried flipping my 4-string over (strings left set up for RH), and playing the intro and main riff from "The Trooper". Fretting correctly on the bass with the wrong hand was a struggle, so crashed and burned on the intro, but the two-finger plucking almost worked (for low values of "worked"; sounded lousy for now, but it felt like it would be doable with a bit of practice) and felt a bit more natural for me than trying to use a pick left-handed.
I always turn my bass left handed and see how well I can play it, and then instantly go back when I realise how god awful I am. Good luck learning lefty!
That's awesome, can't wait to see how it goes. I bought a cheap left handed bass a year or so ago to do the same thing. Currently I'm terrible at it. You did way better than I can even do now. Good luck and enjoy!
Happy New Year (only 350 more days 'til Christmas !) ... Have loads of FUN... but reckon your all on the right path playing naturally ... Q ? Is JohnJoe going to play drums left-handed and left footed ! Would like to 'see' that 'vid' ... 🤯🤓🥳...
I wanted to ask if there is a conicidence between yours and Daves video but you answered my question right away...:) Both of you will make it, I'm sure. Especially you, Cici, with your gift!
cici, I'm doing the reverse.I'm a lefty but I had a left side stroke. Now I'm learning bass right handed. I had to force myself not to switch back &forth. Fretting is hard now , butI have better timing plucking with my right hand. Better tone came with getting my fretting hand thumb in the correct position.
Interesting I wonder if using both sides will improve coordination I know some drummers practice hitting both hands together in triplets to train the weaker hand. Great vid thanks.
This will be fun to watch 😄 Hailing from the Midlands do you know Frank Healey the bassist in Sacrilege? He Also played in the bands Memoriam, Benediction, Napalm Death, Cerebral Fix. He plays left handed but he doesn't reverse the strings, he played my guitar once and just flipped it over and off he went. I don't know which way would be easiest to learn, probably neither. Frank learnt this way because there were only right-hand guitars around and he couldn't be bothered to change the strings and nut.
4:17 Funnily enough Justin Sandercoe who has the great tuition site has done this on guitar, it’s called Nitsuj 😂 It was absolutely hilarious to see the early stages, you did pretty well, sounds better than my efforts playing the right way around at the moment - lots of practice needed!
I'm right handed guitar player but currently learning left handed because of one of my favorite artists Kurt Cobain I can only play one song successfully
Cool challenge - I am lefthanded and play righthanded guitars set up lefthanded (my whole life/career) - I am no longer a working musician - but I have a home studio (who doesn't these days HA!) and work on my song writing skills and challenge myself to write songs in many styles and have allot of fun doing it - my bass is a righty and I just play it upside down when recording basic bass lines for my songs - playing/writing bass lines has been allot of fun in the frame work of a song! If you really want a challenge play a righty upside down - you will see the fretboard in a whole new way!
As a RH novice, I crave videos of LH players as it makes for playing along with a mirror image to guide me. Watching a seasoned player struggle with the physical switch looks just like me watching a vid and trying to flip it before fingers just give up.
I've considered doing this just because I think being in a Beatles cover band would be fun. Plus I have a Hofner already. I hadn't really thought about how hard it would be without being able to use the fret markers as guides, though.
I'm a leftie who grew up in a family of guitarists. It's actually quite nice to play with the thick string on the bottom and light on top. Not entirely relevant... yet here we are :)
Whilst not technically my first bass (which was a cheap starter thing I didn't really play that much), I now have an SR-300 though mine is metallic blue, great bass for the money (though both your and mine are the older model).
I’m really having a hard time. As a left-hander, I’m considering learning the bass guitar, but in my country, the bass is a niche instrument, with very few learning courses, and basically no left-handed bass teaching. I can’t find any online tutorials about left-handed bass either. Can anyone give me some advice on whether to use my right hand or left hand?
In college I studied bio psychology and my favorite subject, sensation & perception. We often talked about how doing things like this can cause your brain to remap certain functions. This is a good thing! The more connections it makes the healthier the brain. The most extreme example is the upside down glasses experiment. Anyway, you’ll probably find that you’re bass playing vastly improves as you do this. Best of luck! Heres the experiment ruclips.net/video/MHMvEMy7B9k/видео.html
@G furthermore the reason why kids are able to learn to be ambidextrous far easier than adults is that their brains are still developing. Your brain becomes less pliable as you age and you actually go through a few stages of cognitive development in your early years where adaptation is easiest. The last being in your early 20’s. I don’t know how old CiCi is but I imagine now is her best chance to succeed.
Might have some effect on your normal right handed playing. I noticed I had "magically" gotten better att playing keyboard after only playing guitar for a few years and picked keyboards up again, oh dexterity I don't remember having, nice.
Cycling through some of your 'shorts,' it occurs to me; Dave should let you be the bands' image consultant. Just let you make them over, completely, with no talking back! You have a great talent, and it goes beyond just your great musicianship 🤩 It need not be Metal, necessarily, but why not be all you can be?
I'm left-handed but I learned to play right-handed. After more than 25 years, I started learning to play left-handed. I take note of the practice hours and I'm already at 400 hours in about a year and a half. It's been fun. At first it was hard because, even though I am left-handed, I still had a beginner's hand (to the left-handed side), like anyone does at first. But now I'm more comfortable and relaxed, and I even find it funny that, when I make the gesture of playing (with my hands), now I make the gesture to the other side. XD
My left hand has more flexibility but I learnt playing bass using right hand so but I’m managing same way I just wish my right hand was the stronger hand in this case
As a left handed bass player I often wish I was right handed because there is a real lack of left handed basses especially in interesting colours and unusual models
I love seeing right-handed basses restrung lefty. It shows lefty bassists can have more options than just hunting for lefties. Only thing with the bass you have re-strung, you have to re-adjust the bridge saddles as well as change the nut
Being a lefty it’s odd to see someone playing it the correct way round in YT. learning as a lefty is simpler because you just mirror what you see. As a life long keyboard player who is newer to bass, it’s been hard to reprogram my brain to go to my left to go up in pitch
Pronouncing it as in 'pass' is fine. In fact 'bass' by rule, shouldn't be pronounced 'base'. Basso in Italian, basse in French. Just one of thousands of words that have been bent out of shape, in every language. Hey ho.
I'm left handed and have been playing guitar right handed for 40 years. I should give this an honest try I think for once. Good luck.
There is no benefit since guitar is complete new learning you should just stay right handed since it makes it easier to find guitars
Same here. Been playing stringed instruments since I was 11 years old. Only reason why I play everything right handed is because that’s how my mother taught me to play them. And from watching all my music idols playing their instruments right handed, I just assumed that’s how it was done and just stuck with it. 😅
@@jonahcaulton8208 there may not be a benefit but why not challenge yourself?
Been playing right handed for 50years but I am left handed! Been wanting to do this for 40years!! Time to do this!!!
I'm left handed, played right for three decades. I switched to left a year ago, and I don't regret it. My rhythm playing is better than it ever was playing RH, and my arm doesn't get tired - which is important, because I play metal!
You playing left handed Cici is better than me trying with either hand, good luck with the challenge to both of you 👍
This is AMAZING! I love that no matter how badass you are at bass, you always try something more! Huge inspiration!
I’m left handed but play bass right handed because when I started playing left handed basses weren’t common and much more expensive and my parents couldn’t afford so I begged and they got me a second hand RH Bass and now left handed feels completely alien.I’m looking forward to watching you progress 🤟🤟
Same here. I'm a lefty who learned righty and now couldn't play lefty if my life depended on it.
You too? Great stuff. As I said on Dave's channel, I am a left-handed player but my first access was to a right-handed instrument, so I started off learning (or trying to learn) basic chords upside-down, until one day I had the 'brainwave' of actually swapping the strings over. Good luck!
Similar experience myself starting out and being lefty. Cheers.

Dang! You did pretty damn good for your first go. Can’t wait to see how it goes over the year. I bet Dave struggles a bit more than you did;)
I am so looking forward to watching your progress doing this. I just can't imagine doing it myself. Good luck!
That was pretty good actually, it’s completely like starting over, so doing this well right off the bat is amazing
😂 Love this Cici. I’ve tried this and I’m utterly hopeless! You did well!!
Looking forward to part two as this was good already.
I always turn my bass left handed and see how well I can play it, and then instantly go back when I realise how god awful I am. Good luck learning lefty!
Haha it’s so difficult!! Thank you :)
That's awesome, can't wait to see how it goes. I bought a cheap left handed bass a year or so ago to do the same thing. Currently I'm terrible at it. You did way better than I can even do now. Good luck and enjoy!

What a fantastic video I actually enjoyed it have a good weekend
Good luck! Question, is there anything that needs to be done to the nut to string a righty bass as a lefty?
Excellent workout for the brain😉👍
Practice makes perfect imperfections 😁
😎👍❤🖖
good luck in the challenge. you're doing great
Thank you so much! :)
I wanted to ask if there is a conicidence between yours and Daves video but you answered my question right away...:)
Both of you will make it, I'm sure. Especially you, Cici, with your gift!
Really impressive thanks for posting 👍
I can’t wait to see this play out. You and Dave will be lefty’s in no time 😉
Like starting all over again from the beginning lol. Hope your having an awesome new year so far Cici !
I'm normally a righty bass player, but good luck with that, cici!!!
You crazies! ^^ good luck!

Big Digs!! Full Steam Ahead!!;-)! Cheers!

I'm an absolute noob to Bass guitar - and needing to purchase a Left handed bass - any recommendations would be appreciated?
you can do it Queenie! i believe in you! :D
Ahhh give it 12 months and you'll be knocking out 'Portrait of Tracy' and 'Teen Town' standing one legged on a lime green spacehopper. I have faith.
WHAT?! 😆 This is a fun idea!
I take it that you don't mean the Paul Gray who is currently out on tour with Wingmen? Also played with UFO, The Damnned, Eddie and the Hot Rods.
We will not laugh at you, Cici. We like and respect you too much.
I'm right handed guitar player but currently learning left handed because of one of my favorite artists Kurt Cobain I can only play one song successfully

It can only make you a better bass player.
It's okay 👍 I did it before it's not hard but it takes more time it's okay 👍

You look beautiful as always, Cici 🥰
I'm subscribing just to see how you do with this challenge.

Im joining you

Fantastic exercise in neuroplasticity!
I tried it just now and aw geez 😅
As a left handed bass player I often wish I was right handed because there is a real lack of left handed basses especially in interesting colours and unusual models
Am left handed really looking for a bass guitar that will suite me
♥
Better than MY bass playing when I attempt it NORMALLY! :O
And I'm not even a bassist! ._.
Tried leaning guitar left-handed once, felt like the equivalent of recovering from a stroke.
I have enough trouble with my right hand thank you!😂
😂😂
It's a right handed bass strung left handed, it looks like.
I love seeing right-handed basses restrung lefty. It shows lefty bassists can have more options than just hunting for lefties. Only thing with the bass you have re-strung, you have to re-adjust the bridge saddles as well as change the nut
Since you are doing this for fun, you should play a right handed bass upside down with your left hand
That’s what I’m doing on this video haha! :)

I for one am glad you're not immediately as good as me after 16 years of playing lefthanded. You will be in about six months though.
Aww I'm left handed bass guitar😊😊
My monrys on you Cici sorry dave
I played left handed strung right from 1971 to 1997. Stringing left is much better.
I’m left handed and play right handed…I can’t play left hand at all, but can play a left hand bass upside down. 😁
Why?
I say why in the video
👀🤘‼️🇫🇮
I think I see a theme here... 😂
Im naturally left handed 100% can not play right handed i’ve tried playing right handed .
I play left handed....want a lesson? haha😀😀
Haha go for it!!
