  • To mix the macabre with fiction is one thing; to witness the macabre within reality is a whole different disgust. From drug abuse to exploiting the poor, these select films make you equally uncomfortable as they do relieved that these were not you.

    I watched Orozco a few months ago and there are definitely translated titles: The embalmer explains in depth the histories and traumas of the deceased, the process of embalming as he knows it, and his own personal story as to how he came to be in the current moment. Do not just watch it for the shock value, that does this documentary a huge and unnecessary disservice when trying to give humanity to those trapped in inescapable poverty and war torn environments. This was a sincere attempt to immortalize people in some of the worst conditions while giving their untimely and forgotten demise meaning.

    I cannot express enough how much I despise Lucifer Valentine. He’s an exploitative predator who indulges and morally questionable fetish horror that pushes being “disturbing” to disgusting levels that aren’t entertaining in the least. It blurs reality and fiction to the point where there is no way it doesn’t cause harm. I am in the horror industry, and anytime somebody suggests watching a Valentine “movie” I immediately know I’m unsafe alone in a room with that person.

  • @Ramibu
    @Ramibu Год назад +909

    Just keep in mind Black Metal Veins is pretty much largely staged, especially with everything Raven/Misery related. There's a lot of info to back this up and as we've been learning about Mr. Valentine in recent years, (allegedly) he's had a habit of grooming women over the internet in order to be part of his exploiting fetish-films. A lot of testimonials around to back this up as well. Drug use in BMV is, from what I can tell, real, but in my personal opinion is not enough to make it a "documentary". I only hope more people who stumble upon Valentine's material also realize just what they're actually dealing with and make a firm decision to not endorse and promote what he does, since there seems to be a consistent narrative of him allegedly being in fact a sexual predator and an abuser.

    • @bladeaok
      @bladeaok Год назад +132

      the drug use is about the only real thing going on in that movie, autumn has told me personally it's almost completely staged. lucifer valentine seems like an absolute creep, i see his methods as pure exploitation, the women i know that have worked with him still seem to be friendly with him though, so maybe they view it differently.

      @@matthewzablocki5310 if I interpreted your message correctly, then no, he (Valentine) has never said he's a sexual abuser and a predator. I'm also not "exposing" anything, since there's nothing for me to expose. Others, who have been close to him at one time or another have done the exposing. Why I brought this subject up was because the original video included BMV in it's list as a documentary, while it isn't one.

    honestly, upon hearing the explanation of the japanese cremation, it actually puts me at ease rather than disturbing me. this is just a family gathering around, learning more about their relative who has passed, and getting to participate together in putting them to rest. I think that's really lovely, even if we in america might be disturbed by it. I certainly don't think i could keep such a lighthearted attitude, but i've not been around death enough to make peace with it. i think that's really what makes the difference there; i see it less as a bad case of desensitization in that case, and more coming to understand that this is a normal part of life. it makes sense there would be giggles; i've seen children at funerals, and they tend to find some amusement in the whole thing. so getting to actually pass grandma's bones around must be pretty neat!

    Okay sorry but I disagree with your view on Orozco the Embalmer as being a 'dark' film of any kind, much less one of the darkest. I have watched this fully, and what I see when I watch this is those in the funeral home industry doing their best with very limited resources in an area prone to a lot of violent and senseless crimes as well as gang warfare. the Embalmer is efficient yes but look at the care he gives them after the initial process. seeing this every day and having to handle it is part of the job but the fact is he shows a lot of care with each one, no matter what condition they are in when they arrive and regardless of age or gender. People like him deserve thanks and respect. it is not dark. Human nature may be, but this shows the empathy of those who must take care of the dead. I get why the gore factor may get ratings and views, but look at this with an understanding of the area and then really pay attention to the mortician (as there is no real embalming done by current standards especially for 1st world countries) and you will see the care he gives to those in his community - which is anything but dark.

Children watching out of curiosity is also very natural, it is just something most countries like the US do not allow or condone on any level-which means that those in the 1st world countries while better off in most aspects also have a much harder time coping with death or the thought of dying.

It's death itself, the murder and violence that leads to the death that is inherently dark. As fucked up as the first documentary is, I think it's important. As someone who has experienced the world of heroin addiction, the portrayal is incredibly accurate and so so so much more common than you would think. Especially people overdosing right after rehab because of reduced tolerance, everyone dying around you, your body deteriorating. Despite all this, you can't stop. These people aren't dumb or delusional, they are trapped. I could never watch this documentary due to the triggering nature so I actually really appreciate you sharing it in a less graphic manner so that I could experience it without being too triggered. I have been in and out of treatment centers since 2020 with some fairly long periods of sobriety. I am 4 months clean currently but my addiction will be with me for the rest of my life. The most imperative advice I can give, never do opiates unless prescribed for extreme pain. But be cautious, as we all know, so many addictions begin from prescriptions. You may say, "Oh, I would NEVER be anything like these people.", "I take pills but I don't snort them or smoke them.", "I only snort heroin, I would never shoot up.", etc. What I can say to any of these statements is "YET." These things progress with unrelenting, demonic speed. It truly takes away any sense of control that you think you may have. For people who have passed the point of no return, there is help out there. I could not have stopped without detox and treatment and sober housing as well as community. You are not alone.

    For me that movie is incredibly interesting and I’m not sure if I agree with the sentiment that it only has worth as something of pure shock value. Orozco is an incredibly interesting man and he made the most out of his situation. The methods he used to preserve bodies and embalm them are nothing like what mortuaries do nowadays in more developed countries. Still, he did what he could and while the work isn’t glamorous you could tell that Orozco took some pride in his work.

    I think you’ve done an incredible job of showing these documentaries and your narrative is so respectful to the poor humans involved, whilst questioning the viewers ability to actually acknowledge the true depth of the horror and injustice that still occurs today!! “Ignorance is bliss” does say it all!! 😔
    …which leaves a horrible feeling of shame yet it is the truth!!!
    Very impactful 🥺😟😔
    Thank you for creating this 🙏🏻👏🏻
    Amazing work!!!

    The most disturbing thing about the slaves is that freeing them won’t change anything. So the filmmakers bought and freed two women, nice, but what are they going to do after that? They have nothing to do, nowhere to go. They were raised to be sold.

    BMV kinda reminds me of one of the first drug centered documentaries I watched, High on Crack Street. It followed three different users for like a year and a half. It was so deeply uncomfortable, but I think gave a window into their experiences that many refuse to witness.

    Hard to believe now, but in the mid-60s Mondo Cane was shown on network TV. It was a hit film. It's theme song "More" was a pop standard of that era.

    The term "detrimental " is generally used to describe something that causes harm or destruction. In your intro, you give special recognition to two individuals whose contribution was "detrimental " to the making of this film. I in no way mean to be critical but I simply thought I'd mention it in case you hadn't intentionally used the term in a negative manner. Your documentary was excellent and I learned a tremendous amount of information I had previously not been aware of. Thank you and I look forward to your next film.

      He meant instrumental. This distinction was famously missed by Justin Bieber when he said that usher was detrimental to his career 😂😂
