- The 2023 Oscars Red Carpet was more or less a snooze fest, but the after-party looks delivered the drama and excitement we should have seen on the real red carpet! Vanity Fair & Jay-Z both threw after-parties that got the oscar winners & nominees out after the show as well as some celebrities that we dreamed to see but couldn't! In our first part of the after-party roast we break down looks from Billie Eilish in Rick Owens to Kaia Gerber in Celine & Austin Butler in Saint Laurent.

Compare with Billie, Gigi, Hailey, their dresses brought the focus to their faces. With Jodie Turner's dress, your first sight probably casts on her dress, but then the dress takes your attention to the red velvet chest area, and then her red velvet-texture lips that echos the red chest, and your sight stays on her face. With Ana, you sight starts at the dress, and stays at the dress. Ana herself becomes largely irrelevant during this interaction between your eyes and her dress. I think any outfit that makes people remember only the outfit but not the person wearing it is a failure.

It's so refreshing to hear someone's commentary on fashion that's not sexist, biased, or fat-phobic. I feel like so often people see something terrible on a skinny body and they say it's fabulous, when it so clearly is not. More tailored to fit pieces for plus sized bodies please! It's 2023 let's go.

I have to say, HauteLeMode is the ONLY one in the world who should be allowed to be on television commenting about fashion. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable, has excellent taste, he's fair, and has flair in his descriptions. I absolutely love this channel! I hate how he over uses "in reality, the dress is...." (like, what does that even mean? what do you mean in reality? where else? in imaginationland?) and "a sort of" (is it a sleeve, or a sort of sleeve? is it a cape or a sort of cape?), but otherwise he is fun to listen to.
I agree. I was definitely more into fashion when I was younger, but Luke is just fun to watch. He is also not prejudiced in any way. So refreshing.
Honestly feel like Andrew Garfield either looks like a hotel valet or someone that’s going to try sell me bowling shoes

@@pasadena8546ive seen a few of his videos and i think he is fine with the nudity as long as there is a point to it and its interesting or intruiging. I think he'd take a well made, intruiging, very sheer moment over a lacklustre boring modest moment and vise versa with a intriguing modest outfit over a boring sheer outfit. I like how his reviews are about the fashion rather than the people for the most part.
They almost always are better than the actual ceremony ;)

Jodie Turner-Smith just wowed me with that gown in her statuesque frame. Ana dress was indeed like a Tiffany lamp and so lovely. Love Billy Eilish's entire look. Cara Delavigne looked fastastic on both the "beige" carpet and the Vanity Fair carpet. And for men, Donald Glover is ALWAYS serving top-notch, modern men's ensembles. He never disappoints...
I just realize that Halle Bailey dress looks like couture version of the rags that little mermaid wore when she got legs 🧜♀️
I like how you describe the clothes and the history of the brands. Behind you the bookcases are filled with books about fashion. I dont know if you did a presentation of your books but it could be an interesting video. When ever I listen to your videos, I always learn a bit more about fashion.

I wonder what it is like in the party itself with all these voluminous dresses or even the hobbling mermaid outfits, do they all change immediately into comfy stretchy dresses or slacks? I LOVE watching these dresses go by and love your commentary, cut in a way it is just like a runway. I cant imagine half these women wearing these outfits while they drink and dance.
I know Rihanna had 4 dress changes. I think Alton Mason had 2 looks.
I think that's kind of what Florence Pugh and possibly Billie Eilish were going for - a huge coat or overgown that has Presence on the carpet, but then easily removed and handed off to a stylist for Easy Party Movement.

I did not like Hunter’s dress at all. I feel like it wasn’t really a dress. I love a nude look but I stand by my opinion but that’s just me. But I loved Ana’s stained glass dress the most! She won the after party! I also really love the liquid sequin dresses LOVE them!!

😭 I'm so sick of otherwise lovely shirts and dresses being ruined by these cheap looking cold shoulders!
I'm sure the manufacturer's love it. They save on fabric.
The cold shoulder gives the illusion that they wear long black gloves, but I dont find them comfortable and a bit confusing when you put on the top, the arm can go through it and miss the sleeve.
Also, I don't want my shoulders either literally cold OR sunburned!

Re the boning on the outside of a dress (such as that worn by Hilary Duff), I SO agree with you! I detest boning on the outside; it used to be on the inside of strapless dresses in order to hold them up in place. On Jamie Lee’s dress, the boning (front and back) reminded me of a back brace and ruined the look.
I also dislike see-through dresses because the “fashion” part of the dress simply does not show … all one sees is a bra and panty and the design is just visually lost! 🤷♀️
Cara looked simply stunning in her red Oscar dress and her beautiful post-Oscar party dress. Halle Berry usually ‘knocks it out of the park’ but this year, not so much. I disliked that short black dress and the white/cream Oscar dress would have looked better without all the pink flowers, in my opinion, of course.

I don't understand why people don't get it. Oscars are prestigious and they want to dress appropriate and to look classy and beautiful, handsome, dashing. Oscar is a long ceremony, so dress appropriate for the occasion. And for the Vanity Fair or any After Party for that matter, they want to dress creative, risky. It's a party they want to have fun.
And Vanity Fair has a theme so the celebs wear accordingly or just have fun.
