A magnetic pendulum that shows chaotic motion. It is even suspended by a magnet, which allows it to rotate freely.
The Magnetron toy - two magnetic spinners that communicate with each other...
Another magnetic pendulum, but this one is battery powered with a little 'kicker' in the base. It will run for several weeks, until the battery runs out!
A rotating mobile that spins to and fro. Again, a battery in the base powers it for a very long time.
Finally, a large mobile with a number of magnets, which gives a beautiful chaotic motion - music of the spheres maybe? Again, battery powered, so it will run for several weeks.
This man must be the easiest and the hardest person in the world to buy gifts for.
It’s easy to figure out what he would like, but almost impossible that he doesn’t have it already.

I don't think he has water pistols or tiny kitchens, or maybe i haven't found his videos.

Man that last one really brought back some memories. My dad had one of those on his desk in his office and I used to love watching it go and toying with it. That was back in the early 90's and looking at it now it's kind of amazing it was already invented at least 30 years ago. Truly amazing! I could look at this stuff for ages. 🙂

I love the intro
A true "magnetron" is the part of a kitchen microwave that actually generates the micro waves, and it has 2 large magnets around the functional component. Although those magnets are not worth the risk to get at, because some magnetron antennas contain beryllium, and if you crack that bit and inhale the dust you can get berylliosis, an nasty lung condition for which there is no cure, only painful death.
Gotta be honest, that penguin eye zoom was spooky.

i have this toy which seems pretty interesting. its a plastic stick with 2 balls spaced away from it. you can get them rotating so that when one ball impacts the other. the other one starts to make a rotation and the first one stops. it can do this on repeat forever with one transferring the motion it had to the other

What would you call the metal ribbon for the first item? A tension leaf spring? I would like to experiment with that! I suppose it's just work hardened ribbon shaped steel? Possibly convex and about 0.1mm thick. But how would you refer to it in order to search it online? I also want to make wind up systems soon so I will need similar stuff to coil up for that. Can anyone help please? Thanks! 😎
