Thanks Billy! Yea i'd like to do more of these for sure. I'd really love to review boards.. but that's a little more difficult. I have a few people iv'e been surfing with that have boards I can review, but accessing the boards is the hard part.
My motto is 4A all day. Tried em all, nothing even comes close. George Greenough's probably the most influential visionary on fin design, ever. From spoons to mats to boats he's ridden and built them all. Nice review (as always), but I think your first call was the right one. 4A.
Yea the 4a is an excellent fin! It's so good cause it does all things well. BUT, if the waves are clean and lining up nicely, I would choose the solo fin all day
Okay, I love noseriding, I've won noseriding prizes, I know the sheer joy of hanging ten on a solid wood plank. But enough noseriding ! There is so much more to longboarding than just noseriding !! There are so many other ways to enjoy the glide and power of longer surfing vehicles. Dig deep into noseriding and get that big juicy booger. But keep an eye on the wider horizons of high speed swoops and big radius carves, even vertical movements that complement the purity of maximum trim.
I'd be interested to hear a comparison with either the Takayama Flex Fin or the Skvarna Equalizer. I was a big 4a fan and then switched to the equalizer and feel like the noserides are more consistent and yet still able to turn really well.
Love your content and footage. I have a California Classic fin now for beach breaks on either a 9'8" noserider. Just picked up a 10'3" noserider and have been eyeing the greenough 4A. I don't do any noseriding or stepping yet, just trying to enjoy riding out a longer-ish wave to the side. Is there a fin that performs best for my use case in your opinion?
Awesome thanks! Either of these fins will work for you. I'd probably lean towards the 4a to start and than as you progress you can start trying out different fins. It totally depends how you want to surf. If noseriding is the goal, the solo fins pivot fin is amazing
Hey! So I’m using a 9’3 classic noserider longboard, planning on getting a pivot fin (my goal is to noseride!), what size of pivot fin would you recommend? Thank you, great content!! 🙏🏽
Hey, love your videos! They’ve helped my surfing more than you could know. How does Solo Fin's pivot fin compare to the CJ Nelson 10” nose rider fin you reviewed last year? I was considering buying the CJ Nelson fin, but it seems to be out of stock everywhere I’ve checked. Thanks!
Great to hear Josh! Thanks! Well I have not done a direct comparison between the two, but I can tell you that they will be quite different. The CJ nelson worked extremely well on my bing continental.. it was a good match. It made the board extremely stable in trim. Doesn't quite do the same thing to my Chingona.. its very hard to explain haha! The solo fin will be slightly looser in trim, but should turn better than the CJ. They're both great fins and in a perfect world you would try both to see which works better with your specific board.
It's not quite as 'sharp' feeling, if that makes sense. This fin goes to a point instead of keeping it's width through the tip. I think that helps make it a little more like the 4a than a regular pivot.
Absolutley! Nothing wrong with that size or even bigger. They will just react slightly differently and it completely depends on what you're looking for

Thanks Juan! Yea people get upset if I share the spot... but I can say it's in monmouth county

@@LongboardSessions Thanks for the reply. A cool interesting video idea would be to present the physics of fins, how do they actually work? How the different features (height, width, shape) affect the surf board navigation? Such context would help understand these fins reviews
I suggest taking the two most different fins. Have Gilad install one or the other and put the board in the water. You surf and rate the fin before you see it due to a fall. Once you see which you have, go in and have G install one or the other decided by a coin flip.
@@billytuchscher Not noticeable to me. Widely different fins, I can't tell. Maybe it's me, but I've met two other surfers who feel the same. Placebo be strong.
Did Solo fins go out of business? I ordered a fin few weeks ago and nothing! I went to their website and the site is expired. Im trying to get ahold of them! Bogus

Yea I completely agree with you. I wouldn't have a year ago, but now I do!
I'm a huge fan of pivot fins. the wide base makes them extremely responsive to the waves force. fantastic for high-lining!
Yes! I love the difference between the two fins. Both have their plusses
Fintastic!
Thanks Anthony! Let's get out again soon.. whenever you're back
@@LongboardSessions can't wait!
Surfing real good, waves look fun for the goofy foot!!
Thanks!! Yea finally some lefts haha
Your ride at 2:34+ is really pretty. I really like the style your developing via your new-ish turning program. 🙂
Thanks Billy! I think doing this turning program is what creates style
Sweet! Maybe i should give that fin a try. Let me know when you guys out again. Thanka brian
Absolutely! You can try it next time we go out. I'll keep an eye on the forecast

Thanks David! Nope Ive never tried that one.. there are so many fins to try haha!

Thanks so much Brett!
that fin looks hot. I might have to pick one up. I have a silly compulsion to try new fins
haha I kinda do as well. Yea this is a good one to add.. it's my go to on the cleaner days
Hey! So I’m using a 9’3 classic noserider longboard, planning on getting a pivot fin (my goal is to noseride!), what size of pivot fin would you recommend? Thank you, great content!! 🙏🏽
I'd go with a 9.5! anything 9-10 will do. You'd have no issue with a 10" either. I changed my mind, go for 9.5 - 10 haha
@@LongboardSessions thank you!

I ride a 9 foot board. Do you recommend sizing up when you buy fins? Say to a 10 inch?
I suppose it depends. If you’re going with a pivot style fin I’d probably go with a 9.5. If you’re going with a 4a style, I go 10.
Nice video! So now I need a Greenough 4a as well for the local beackbreaks..🙄😂🤙🏻
haha yes! it's a must have
It looks very similar to the Yater spoon fin by Rainbow fins.
Oh interesting.. i'll have to check that one out!
what about one of those pivot fins size 9'5 on a 8'0" longboard? Too big for the board?
That may be too big for that, but if you got it might as well try it out!
How big is your board? what Kind of Board is it? I want to get into Longboarding
Sweet, do it! It's a 9'6" COS Chingona. Your height and weight come into play when choosing size.
Thank you! I'm 5'11 165lbs is 9 ft consider a longboard? 9'3" 10?
@@thankyouthankfull I’d go for something in the 9’6” range if I were you.

You should try the Harbor HP fin.

Not finding availability for the Solo Fin -Pivot fin anymore.
They sadly went out of business. I'm manufacturing my own fins now, so there will be a full lineup soon.

Any discount codes for this fin?
Not ATM. I'll let you know if they send one
I still want a blind test. Easily done (until you fall and see the fin) and would make a good vlog post.
