    I take back my below comment.....this worked for me! I told my kids that this was the new norm and if they did not keep it organized....punishments would follow. Well it's been three weeks and my fridge is still as organized as it was on day one. I have also used her ideas in my kitchen drawers and cabinets....again, with the same rule with the kids. Cabinets are still looking great. I also make more time to put stuff away myself instead of just throwing it in the fridge or the drawers....takes a few extra seconds but has been soooooo worth it. I have been re organizing each room in the house....taken me three weeks and I am still not done because I have kids and a life lol, but slowly and surely things are coming together and my house is slowly decluttering. Thank you Alejandra!

      Try explaining to your kids why you are doing things in a certain way - what are pros and cons. While they are in your house, they will follow the rules because of implemented fear of punishment and not because there is a benefit to it. You don't want to micromanage and fear manage your kids. They will rebel at some point or live like total slobs after they move out, to regain the feeling of freedom... Good luck.

    @emily Hawkins, it seems to take quite a while to get the whole house organised. I started organising about 6 weeks ago and only today I got to my kitchen. You do it bit by bit, when inspiration hits and you find a solution that will work best for you. While these tips are brilliant and really helpful, you still need to translate them to your own clutter, which is not so easy and takes time. But it is soooo worth it. My house is becoming the organised dream I have had for so long.
    Those time wasting frustrations that just stressed me out like wondering around the house trying to find my hair brush (every morning), my keys, the fly swatter while on the run to swat a bug before it runs off etc etc are now a thing of the past, everything is in a set place, and what a difference it makes! I know know where everything is.

    My daughter wanted me to watch this video because she likes organization and I am inspired because it is much easier for the children to help out and they want to when they are not confused on where to put things. One fridge make over coming up! Thanks.

    wow - super organized. I like the rack for the wine and how you did the "grab n go" bags. My fridge is organized but not quite as well. I used cheap plastic baskets that I got from WalMart and Dollar Tree (mini storage baskets), just to keep things a bit more corralled and I have those restaurant condiment packets in a ziploc baggie. I do keep my cheese in one of the crisper drawers, along with butter (I stock up when they're on sale). I didn't really need to do too much more since my fridge is designed to let you place the shelves were you want so I just moved them to the height that suits what I usually buy/store. I got a nice Kenmore side-by-side fridge :)
    I do the same thing with the eggs too lol, but I write a "H" on mine with permanent marker (for hard boiled obviously). I also write a "H" on the exterior of the carton as well to save grabbing the wrong carton when looking for non-hard-boil eggs.

    How do you keep your fridge so minimal? My family just buys tons of food and condiments and it's nearly impossible to go through our fridge. There are 5 of us in house so it's hard because we each by our own things and it takes over the fridge. Also we always have leftovers which I do on purpose so I can take food to work, but it's still annoying because we ha walk these containers in the fridge!! It's so frustrating!!

    The heavier items in the door should be Closest to the hinges as the refrig door will become unbalanced & lose its seal. I use the door for U stackable items like salad embellishments, etc., & large lazy Susan on the top shelf for the pickles, jelly, and yogurts. Once you have an unbalanced door, you will avoid straining it. It's very difficult to find someone who can reset the door, but better than buying another one. Being a nationally certified mental health professional, in my opinion, she does not meet the criteria for OCD.

    Didn't know that about tomatoes. This woman is awesome!

  • @TheCatricana
    @TheCatricana 9 лет назад +13

    Tomatoes are kept on the counter not to maximize shelf life but to maintain the best flavor. Putting them in the fridge damages some of the flavor compounds. Just fyi. I always keep mine on the counter, then if I dont eat them within a week or so I put them in the freezer whole. Once you thaw them about 5 minutes the skin slips right off and you can chop them up for soups and stews!!

      I am wondering if she needs to replace the label after washing the container. I know when I have a label or any sticker on a container that gets washed - it eventually needs to be scrubbed off & replaced. I am a bit of perfectionist myself and I know it would bother me if the label gets all warped or appeared to be waterlogged (which I assume would impact how the ink looks on the container). Plus to get the label off would probably be a pain. I hate it when I buy something from Ross or TJMaxx and they put a sticker label on the item - which I then I have to scrub off vigorously.

    • @uponamidnightdreary
      @uponamidnightdreary 8 лет назад +1

      Amy Helmick I wondered that too. My only guess is that she hand washes those containers to be careful of the getting the labels too wet, but even then. Seems like the dishwasher would destroy them in no time.

      A tip from a friend of mine is while boiling the eggs, she puts one or two drops of food coloring in the water to tint the eggs. She color codes the weeks, i.e. the first week of the month is pink, second week is blue, etc. They store the hard boiled eggs in a plastic see thru container, and the tint not only implies that the eggs are hard boiled, the 'age' of the egg is indicated by the color used. So, if I had pink and blue hard boiled eggs, I would eat the pink before I started on the blue...and so on. Clever, I thought! Thanks for all your tips!!!

    Hard boiled eggs make people fart like they're rotting on the inside.
    I know this because one of the guys in the office used to eat them and the room always stank like the apocalypse had started. I felt like I was about to faint and so did everyone else. Everytime at 4 p.m he had a break and some time later it was like clockwork. BAM! I even used to get tears in my eyes.
    Then, thanks to him feeling bloated, he switched his snacks for 1 apple, 1 banana and a cup of tea and that never happened again. Hard boiled eggs should be illegal. Eating hard boiled eggs should be punishable by law.

      billy jack The bottom of the fridge and in the back is the coldest. Basically, the further you can get from the front (and the light) the better.

      billy jack she means for that particular shelf and depends on what fridge you have.

      it's common sense... warm air rises... even in a fridge. That's one of the reasons why meats are recommended on the bottom.

    Hello Alejandra!
    I LOVE your organizational skills! You are always so positive and uplifting to watch. I just wanted to let you know that your videos have helped me more than you know. I have depression & PTSD from the Army and you always seem to make my day brighter. I just wanted to thank you for that. I also have great passion for organization, so when I think of new or improved ways to organize my heart skips a beat! Lol.
    Lastly, I have a question about the labels you use in your frig w/ the erasable marker. When you wash the container out does the label come off or leave a sticky residue? Do you apply new ones or are they "specialty" labels?
    P.S. & BTW: I'm addicted to school supplies, craft items, and CONTAINERS too!! Have a great day & thanks again. Take care.
    ~Poppy

      I've lived in TX and FL for the last 20 years. Besides HUMIDITY ruining your food, ANTS will get in and attack it! It doesn't matter if you live in a mansion or a shack, or how clean your house is - they will find FOOD!

      I used to hate bread from the fridge, but the humidity has gotten so bad where I live (Tropical North Queensland) that I would buy a loaf of bread one late afternoon/night and by the time I went to make the kids' school lunches the next morning, it would be mouldy. Soooo gross! So by comparison, fridge bread is the lesser of two evils lol.
