Pierre-Joseph goes to an apprenticeship college to train as a gardener. There he meets a series of characters - Françoise Brown, the principal, Alberto, his botany teacher, and Adrien, his employer - who will prove decisive in his apprenticeship story and in unleashing his sexuality. Forty years later Kutta appears, Françoise Brown’s adoptive child whom he has heard so much about but never met. But Kutta, who is now the owner of a strange château, seems to be looking for more than just a gardener.

Looking for a very different gay film? This unusual film might be worth your while. Dialogue is mostly replaced with narration from different characters. For me who doesn't understand French, it's like reading a novel along with sensuous cinematography, that feels perfectly natural. The excellent soundtrack never gets in the way, is always perfect for the story. Everything is calm, balanced and working together. There are no teenagers, no one is constantly on a cell phone, no haters or arguments, no car chases or accidents, no frivolous artistic technique. Sex is mostly understated, never sleazy, just part of Pierre-Joseph's life journey. Still, it isn't for kids not that any would sit still through a film that moves through a lifetime this calmly. May sound boring but it isn't. This is a masterpiece of a film.
