People need to understand portion sizes when consuming these foods. Foods on this list have other nutrients/properties that have their place. That fit in with a balanced diet. They help with gut health, mood levels, etc. Better education on how to use them as ingredients in meals is the issue.

  • @hobbytech4618

I usually don't comment on these videos but I have to chime in here. As someone who went from 330lbs to 180lbs and has maintained 180-190lbs for 10 years, I know a thing or two about eating healthy. I lift weights 3-4x a week, hit all the body parts properly and I do cardio. Basically not a slacker and hitting it harder than last time. But, I think getting nutrition advice from youtube can sometimes lead people astray. For example, if I eat rice or sweeteners, I retain water and look like complete shit, even if the calories aren't high. Greg Doucette can eat sweeteners and stay lean AF...but everyone has to do their own testing with foods. Similarly, if I consume the amount of protein that many of these influencers recommend (1g/lb lean body weight) I can easily gain weight...reason being that if I'm consuming 2500 calories in a day, I might feel more satiated with a few spoonfuls of 'hummus' (say 2-300cal worth) instead of a whey protein shake or pan full of egg whites. Both the same calories, but one is high in carbs and fat the other high in protein. Sometimes the few bites of high fat foods balance my blood sugar and keep me full for hours where I can work well with good focus. I find that the most important factor when dieting, especially when balancing the diet with a busy lifestyle (i.e. working, kids, not having time to cook 6 meals a day), is to just not eat a lot PERIOD. If you take a spoon of hummus or a bit of dark chocolate, it's not gonna kill your calories. It will if you eat 6 spoonfuls of hummus, or a full chocolate bar. If you're trying to be 'contest ready' for the contest you will never enter, then sure, stick to to 40-60g fat/day high protein diet, but the majority of people just need to learn to eat less, skip some meals if you're not hungry etc. I have heard Greg say this before (calories in calories out) so when I see him present lists like this I take it as more of a heuristic than fact. That being said, there are some foods I avoid 99% of the time, as there is no benefit whatsoever: alcohol, chocolate bars, white sugar, candy, potato chips, mayonnaise, salad dressing, peanut butter, most take out/restaurant food etc. Long story short, my opinion is that one or two bites of 'average' foods with below-optimal nutrient profiles is okay, as long as you know that that's your meal..so if you wanna have a few spoons of hummus, don't have dinner an hour later, you already ate dinner.

par example, those High Sugars I would eat 30 minuts before I start a heavy training session (SBD/high rep Deadlift & Squats)
but when you eat those & Sit down, it's just a recipe for Weight gain

The Dark chocolate being bad - something you and Eddie Abbew agree on then. Both of you being wrong tho. Who says dark chocolate is a source of healthy fat? It isn’t. What it does contain is high levels of polyphenols and has been shown improves vascular function and cardiovascular health. A recent study also showed that regular consumption of dark chocolate can lower people’s blood pressure and improve insulin sensitivity. Just because a food contains some saturated fat doesn’t necessarily negate all the benefits, especially if included in moderation. You also don’t have to choose between dark chocolate and fruit and veg, it’s easily possible to eat both.

    • @Menmo369
      @Menmo369 2 месяца назад

I think when Greg says it’s bad it’s because people don’t eat in moderation and he’s talking to people trying to lose weight. Once you get it down and are at the weight you want, and learn how to control eating habits I don’t see an issue with eating chocolate. But I think everyone can agree people treat it like chips, you don’t stay at just one.

calorie content is irrelevant when deciding if something is healthy or not. Nutritional content is what matters. It's healthy if it has good fats/protein/carbs, and easily absorbable micronutrients in good amounts, and it also doesn't contain much bad fats and antinutrients etc. If it has a lot of calories, just be aware of it. It's the calorie intake overall that matters.

You're so right about the fruit juice. It's one of the main reasins why I became overweight as a child. I loved drinking fruit juice. I used to drink it even at night when I was thirsty. Now it's water only for me. Fruit juice maybe on special occasions.

My husband and one of my kids are allergic to gluten (husband is full on celiac, not sure about my daughter or if she just has an insensitivity), so we have to choose the gluten free options of things..... gluten free options are usually WAAAAAAAY higher in calories than the regular options! Holy cow it is insane! When i mention it, my husband laughs at me and says, "welcome to the world of gluten free!" 😂

The only thing you got wrong here is when you said you can’t have most of your recipes as gluten free. You actually can. I’ve made nearly every recipe in Cookbook 2.0 and they were 99% all GF 🤙

I took a sports nutrition class at a University and the professor, who was a dietician, said chocolate milk was the perfect recover drink because of the ratio of protein and carbs.

I remember the first time I saw an ad for chocolate milk as a post workout drink and for athletes and laughing my ass off.

Hummus; there are semi hummus products that are actually lower in calorie. But hummus isn't that calorie dense in comparison with nut butters.
Graniola bars; there are sugar free options
Fruits and veggies; there are indeed some relatively calorie dense fruits/veggies and there are fruits which contain much sugar. My husband is somewhat overweight and was told by his doctor to quit eating bananas and sharon fruits and instead replace these with berries. Also, avocado contains a lot of calories.

Agree with most of this, except peanut butter and organic foods.
Peanut butter is fine if it fits into your diet. It’s not that hard to work it in.
And you are not going to be healthy if you skip organic foods. Not everything needs to be organic. But some food’s definitely need to be organic. Otherwise you are consuming some of the most unhealthy foods you can eat.
I also suspect his cookbook isn’t healthy foods. It’s something that is workable, but from the meals I’ve seen coach Greg eat in the past, there are pancakes and syrups, and other processed foods. It isn’t exactly healthy. But, convenient and taste good. But probably not the healthiest.

Just because something is low calorie doesn't mean it's healthy. High calorie foods like clean dark chocolate 90% cocoa or higher is healthy for the body and the brain. There are high calorie foods that are are actually. It's not just about calories. It's about what foods affect your hormonal levels

Hey coach! Just made a video similar to this but gave some alternatives! Obviously it’s calories in, calories out but the snacks I review are higher in protein and fiber! Would love to know your thoughts

S4:42 I hate the taste of dark chocolate but I eat it because it has lots of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that are good for you in a limited amount and it’s proven to improve memory and the rate of depression but you only need about 30 to 60 grams which is around 2 squares if you get the brand I buy. Also I just looked up some other health benefits and it says protects skin from the sun and reduces the chance of heart disease. So this is probably the only thing I’ve ever really disagreed with Greg.
