The transition from running to floating is pure cinematic brilliance 🤌🏽
The wide shot when you can see them all floating up the rock formation is one of my favorites in the entire film. I smile every time I watch that scene.
The music
The exact moment in IMAX I thought to myself "this is going to be something special".
I can't understand why this moment feels so special. But every time I see it I feel goosebumps
One of the strongest Science-Fiction imagery every produced. That specific scene. I'm 50, I've been reading contemporary SF forever and it stunned me.
That sardukar chant in the beginning always gives me chills
Some have said it is possibly Leto II peering back in time from his point... IDK
@@f1r3hydr4nt It's a Sardaukar throat singer

@@Thunshot Is he chanting that to the Sardaukar? Why would he be chanting that to them? Just curious
to me it sounds like an elder having premonitions, ( the sardukar and fremen have common ancestry) about the end of their illustrious order. In the mold of the Persian immortals, or Ottoman Janissaries, Praetorian guard.. etc
Dune Part One began with a Chani Narration
Dune Part Two began with an Irulan narration
Dune Messiah will begin with an Alia narration
Oooooo
Plus another Sardaukar chant please 🙏🏻

Hans Zimmer did confirm in a Dune: Part One video that this story revolves primarily around its women, so that would definitely make sense. Their narration would serve as a kind of liminal "framing device" if you will
I imagine she will be recapping the Holy War 🥺
Dune and Dune part 2 are cinematic history.

I’d argue this is probably one of if not the best intro to a science fiction film ever bar none. Establishes new and existing characters, catches up audiences with the events if pt1, strong colors and atmosphere, cinematography far more beautiful than any sci-fi film gets besides Denis’s other films. This film set a new standard for what we expect from films of this caliber. A new generations Lord of the Rings.
its one of the best but part 1's intro is definitely better.
I've seen some people call it this generation's Star Wars original trilogy.
what? the desert fight sequence here is an absolute waste of time. and the rushed last hour suffers because of it.

@@handlechar568 Agreed. At least show the Harkonnen hunters take one ONE Fremen. I am not asking for much here, just ONE single Fremen. They hyped them all up just to do this to them felt underwhelming.

Guess what? I did exactly that! I just fell in love with this movie. There were three scenes in this movie that just kept giving me goosebumps. A strong movie indeed!
Thinking to go for the fifth time lol.
You have alot of money to watch a movie 5 times in the theatre 😂
I only got to see it twice , one in 4dx
Couldn’t get a seat for weeks in imax tho 😤
My seventh and last cinema viewing will be next week on the 70mm IMAX. Saved the best for last.
6:22 Watching this moment for the first time in the cinema was simply amazing!
True
Came here only for this scene.
This scene was in my head rent free. So happy it is finally here.
Just incredible. These are the most elite Harkonnen hunters, and they have the most sophisticated technology. Very terrifying!!! I wonder how many Fremen they took out from up there, you can see them mowing down Fremen at 7:44!!!
@@costco_pizzaseeing that there were no Fremen bodies in the following scene, only Harkonan bodies being swallowed by the worm, it's safe to assume that they didn't get any of them.

Really wish they would release Dune 1&2 in the original IMAX format. Watching it like this is painful.
Why not just do it ? I take cut of sides over black bars ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.
Yes please. Denis really needs to consider releasing the IMAX versions of Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Dune: Part One (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024) on 4K, Blu-ray and Digital. #ReleaseTheIMAXCut
3:00 insane opening sequence crafted by a master, every shot, every sound, absolutely no mistake, from Paul waking up paning to Chani, footsteps on sand, sign language, Stilgar whistle, subtle eerie sound. Seeing this on imax felt like I was laying right there on the sand, music was used sparingly, whole move is a masterclass
Greatest sci fi film ever made. Watched it three times in cinema. A cathartic experience
Aye three cinema trips here
same, three times!
Same! First film I've ever watched 3 times at the cinema.
Both Part One and Part Two are the only films I have ever seen three times in the cinema. I am definetly going to do the same for Dune Mesiah.
@@Warpreacher0jjdhjksiosoeodkdjjkmsosiajwuuwuii
I’m so happy it opened with Princess Irulan narrating. She’s the de-facto narrator of the first book. Something about it sounds like a medieval chronicle.
Once every 10-20 years Hollywood makes a film that can only be truly enjoyed on the big screen, Im so sad this film can ONLY be watched in a movie theater. No home sound system and screen will EVER replicate the stunning visuals, sounds and physically shaking my bones at times....
What an experience i will never forget! For all your faults WB executives thank you for making this gem of a film and letting the Director make the film on his way on his time frame and not rushing it.
Dune Part Two might be the greatest sequel ever made. Love it so much. Proud this amazing film exists.

I don't care what anyone says: I loved Walken as the Emperor Shaddam IV.
"Walken without rhythm, and you won't attract a worm"
Obvious Chemical Brothers head nod!
@@purgruv It actually wasn't! I saw an interview where someone sheepishly asks & Villeneuve's comment is interesting: he says not at all, but it IS however a testament to just how much "DUNE" has permeated throughout our popular culture over the past couple of generations of time.
I think he's exactly right. I think people criticizing it are expecting something that the Emperor is not...a strong, powerful, scary villain. But really, in this telling of the story: the Emperor is a man past his time. He's a relic, a man in denial that he's already become irrelevant. So, for such a character, what you need is an actor who can do a lot with few lines & mainly glances. Walken is pitch perfect, I think.

Release in IMAX aspect ratio.
this preview isn't selling any tickets, everyone here just wants to watch the cool orange bit again
Heh, yep! I freaking love this movie.
WB, please, please release the IMAX 1.90:1 aspect ratio (if not 4:3) of Dune Part 1 and 2 on OTT.
Listen to ur consumers warner brothers

Not everyone prefers 16:9+ aspect ratios. I much prefer a nice wide 2.4:1 for cinematic titles. Seeing more is not necessarily better. Letterboxing and cropping in focuses the eyes on what is happening in the scene and what is important. Comes down to preference at the end of the day. Planet Earth BBC style documentaries obviously benefit from a full frame, and actually, IMAX was created for nature content in the first place. It depends what the director is going for. The vast vast overwhelming majority of films are released in 2.35-2.4:1. There's a reason.
You could also argue that 60fps is smoother, but every single film is released in 24fps. Its "more cinematic", as cringe as that might sound a lot of the time.
@@Forgotten_Fables Did you just copy paste this message under every IMAX aspect ratio comment? Are you working for Warner Bros?
Jokes aside, this movie was shot with IMAX aspect ratio in mind. It was meant to be seen that way.
Releasing just a cropped version does not "focus" the eyes on anything, it just loses part of the full vision of the movie.
1.90:1 also heavily benefits the home viewing experience as most people have a 16:9 TV and it fills almost the whole screen with no black bars.
It is just bad practice and anti consumer behaviour. What is the problem? Warner can do it with Nolan films, then why not with Denis' films?
That eclipse scene & infrared scenes almost made me blind with its sheer beauty & power ✨
it was a real eclipse too

Visually, for me, this movie is the best one ever made, and it's not even close. Sound is up there too. The Sardaukar chant and language, Harkonnen language in this scene and how it's sounds, it's like I directed it for my personal enjoyment. I couldn't believe what was seeing the first time I saw it...
The Harkonnen language in this movie is so fascinating to me. I really wished we could hear more of it. Or even hear Feyd or the Baron speak it.
We need an extended version of both parts, please! IMAX ratio on Blu-Ray would be great as well!
Probably one ot the best sequels out there!

Where do I begin, watched it three times on the big screen.. trippy visuals, music, places, non stop action. Top 10 movies of all time. Best movie since inception / interstellar
For me the most interesting part from this movie is how fremen water reclamation technology works. Mr Villeneuve even did not shy away on showing how fremen extracted waters from defeated harkonnens. Later in sietch tabr, we are shown how jamis's water was reclaimed through the deathstill. How his orifices was closed and his body vacuum sealed to let none of his water wasted. Also the scene where stilgar showed jessica about sietch tabr catchbasin was interesting. Like lady Jessica herself said in the book, the fremen are indeed perfectionist in term of preserving water.
Dune part 1 & part 2 makes for the best movie ever made for me
An amazing movie, can't wait for part 3
What I love about this scene is how RETRO it looks. Like concept art for Dune from the 1960s. I love it.

My favorite opening to a film
*Watched it 7 times in the theater (6x IMAX, 1x ScreenX).*
Seeing this makes me want to see it again tomorrow, haha.
Honest question: I went to see it in IMAX 70mm. I'd never seen a film in this format and I drove past another iMAX theater just to see it in 70mm. I couldnt believe how darkly lit it was, especially in this opening scene. I thought there might be a glitch that day, like a projectionist asleep at the wheel. Now that I see this clip, I realize it was intentionally red, but not necessarily dark. Was it brighter in ScreenX?
