  • I’ve got my hands on 9 different models to find out. I put every set of irons through their paces, testing them using state of the art TrackMan technology and Titleist Pro V1 golf balls - both on the range and out on the golf course.
I’ve broken this project down to categories. So which game improvement irons came out on top. And, perhaps more importantly, which will I be putting in play this season?
First of all, let’s run down the contenders…

I still play Ping G30’s and just shot 1 under with them. Forget blades, I play the easiest repeatable clubs I can!

I went onto the Callaway Rogue ST, it's an amazing set, slipped into my play immediately. Love the look and the play is incredible. Obviously everything is subjective.

I think the Calaway Rogue ST Max OS is even better as a game improvement iron. Even more forgiveness, high launch and it has a little more offset to help straighten out a high handicapper’s shot. I was looking at the Stealth but went with the Rogue ST Max OS because of what it could give me. OS also gapped better with my wedges which is an issue with these stronger lofts on game improvement irons these days.

I was hitting the Ping and TaylorMade's to see which one I wanted to buy. I ended up going with the 425's for the better consistent accuracy. I was either 10 yards or less off center with the 425 irons. With the Stealth irons I had plenty of shots under 10 yards off center, but I also had enough shots that were as high as 20 yards off center. The Stealth irons were a little better as far as feel, but in the end, hitting fairways more consistently won out. Plus if you take the higher lofted club head which was just as accurate you even gain more yardage than the Stealth irons.

Would have liked to see some Cleveland offerings in the line-up though. I am a senior golfer and looking for some SGI irons and hybrids. I have heard good things about Wilson but just not a fan of the chrome finish. I might just have to add them to my short list which right now is; Callaway Rouge ST MAX OS, TaylorMade Stealth, Ping G425, Cleveland Launcher XL and Cleveland Launcher XL Halo. Also moving to graphite shafts to get the softer feel. Your comparison was very helpful and timely too. Great job.

I bought a set of Wilson D9 irons earlier this year. I've been playing so well with them and gaining about 10-15 yards with every club. I know they were high on your list of Best Game Improvement Irons in 2021, so I was surprised they didn't make the list this year.

I've been golfing for about 4+ months now and decided it was time to lose my cheap beginner set of clubs and get a set of game improvement irons. Tested out a bunch and it came down to the stealth and the rogue st max os. I chose the rogue irons because they were longer in distance and they also just felt better all around to me. It does pay to try out clubs because every one is individual and for me I went in thinking I really like the stealth irons but they didn't work for me. Thanks for the video.

The TM Stealth Irons I bought with stiff steel shafts AW-8 and they add 10-12 yards on my old Callaway X2 Hot irons. So my Stealth 8 iron is doing what me Callaway 7 did about 150+. The Stealth aren’t all that much better than the X2 Hots on dispersion, the face is actually smaller but definitely longer. Now I also added a Wilson Launch Pad 6 Iron that’s giving me 175 yards and tighter dispersion. I shoot in the 90s usually. I have a couple Taylor-Made hybrids and Ping G425 Driver and 3 wood which have really straightened me out on the long shots. My usual shot is a draw especially with the irons but these new clubs are amazing! Fewer mishits and significantly longer.

@@hannahholdenNCG yes agreed about the Launch Pad long irons although they do create a gap in my bag with just a 6, I might have to ad a couple more. Also I went with graphite regular flex shaft with the Wilson 6 iron which I don’t regret. Thanks for the simply brilliant videos!

I just got myself the Stealth irons. Most important for me was the landing angle. It was even better than Ping G425. I play on a course with very hard greens where it is very hard to stop the ball. As a high hanicaper (hcp 30) the dispersion is more me than any club :D. The ballflight was for me the best after I tried some in a fitting.

  • @jwdecosta

I bought and was fitted for Ping 425’s and in 2nd place was the Taylor made stealth. Ping took too long so I got the Taylormade irons. I played 50 rounds with them and snapped two 3 wood shafts up by the grip and when I broke the gap wedge at the same place I replaced them with the blue dot Pings 1/2 “ over and large grip. Instead of the 3+ wood I got the Ping 5 wood and only gave up 5 yards and really gained in dispersion. Still waiting for the irons to get here so I am playing with my old Rogue X. I liked the Taylormade irons but I couldn’t shake the weak shafts which trembled terribly.

In nearly every case so called “Game Improvers” are the strong version of the standard clubs. PW at 41 degrees, 9 irons at 38 degrees. No wonder they go further, they aren’t PW or 9 irons. The Callaway DCB AW is 47 deg which is properly a PW!

    • @hannahholdenNCG
      @hannahholdenNCG  Год назад

Yes and no. It is more the extra tech in the club head that provides the distance.
The loft is more of a counterbalance of the low CG. The lower the CG is, the higher the ball flight will be. Strong lofts bring down the launch to the correct flight window.
If you just took a blade and bent it to the loft of a game improvement club it wouldn't go as far as these do so it isn't purely the loft causing the extra distance. Hope that makes some sense!

Last summer it was Callaway DCB everything. Now, you only see the Rogue ST being pushed. Is this just Callaway putting marketing teasers to keep people buying clubs? I haven't seen any 2022 "game improvement" vid that had DCBs included this year. I tried 425, hot metals, T200, and DCBs last year and hit consistently with the DCB. Just odd that all of a suddenly the DCBs aren't pushed by Callaway.

    • @hannahholdenNCG
