Really evocative of Clive Barker's cenobites, which lets face probably strongly informed the original conceptualization of Slaanesh. It looks like a proper return to form for what are, honestly, to often a pretty campy seeming faction.
The cenobites were definitely influential in the creation of the slaanesh faction and to be honest they were pretty influential in my development of this scheme too. I'm glad that came across! 👍
While personally I am all for the really vibrant colors on Slaanesh models as my army looks like it is out of 2nd edition in some ways, I love what you are doing and am happy to see Slaanesh models getting some love
Been doing skin like this for my DG for a bit now, adds a nice creepy vibe. Glazing red in near wounds or where flesh meets some metal adds a nice touch of color.
Excellent video as usual. Wanted to say thank you for the recipe. I intend on using it and variation of it(subbing different contrast paint) for my knight army’s flesh mods. Thanks again.
I absolutely love this video... This sounds crazy... but i would LOVE to change the chest pieces of the keeper of secrets... I want an armored look.... searching and working on it. LOL. :)
I'm currently building the new Slaanesh option Daemon Prince. I've built a large Emperor's Children army and I'm happy with what I've done so far using an AK brown wash over Bugmans Glow, Cadian Fleshtone and Kislev Flesh for those metal infused flesh cables. The DP skin needs something special. I'm going to use your recipe. Not sure how I'll paint the wings yet though.
Hello, amazing video. Happy as I am progressing through the steps on this right now. What Abteilung colors did you use if I may ask please? I know you said brown and black.
Thank you , Rich , Good upload , nice work. Was a little confused about the hair product advert at the end though , was it Loreal ? ( Coz ya worth it !) 😍😘🤣 🐺
I do really like that Slaanesh has become a focal point of AOS and so far the writers did well incredibly so… but I’m waiting for the collapse like Horus heresy
@@SprayBlackStudios Although now I'm really itching to try your techniques on top of those bright pink hues. At least conceptually, having those garish colours and then dirtying them up with dark oils might reflect the idea of Slaanesh quite well, too.
nice result on the miniature. i got a quesiton. if i havent got an airbrush, for the second step of adding bright on the previus rakarth flesh coat, could i use drybrush instead of?
Hey! The two Oils that I used for the wash were: elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/paints-washes-etc/abteilung/black?d=10748 And elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/paints-washes-etc/abteilung/brown-whash?d=10748
Inspired! You said in the video to leave the enamel wash to dry for 30mins then rub off with a dry cotton bud. Is this because the enamel wash is still semi-unset? I sometimes struggle to get long painting sessions and wondered how I could alter your technique if I came back 24 hours after doing the oil wash to start the reductive technique? Any help is really appreciated
Hi, know this video is a little older but i am going to get back to painting grimdark and was wondering on the rest of the model for colours paints etc if possible?
Hi, I know I’m late to the party but I love what you’ve done and are doing. Just a quick question, would I be able to use something like Agrax Earthshade instead of the oils? I’m planning on trying this out on some daemonettes.
Thankyou! Agrax is a bit thin and would leave a slightly different finish but could definitely work as a serviceable alternative. You sadly can't do the removal stage with it though as it's an acrylic
Thank you. I’ve inherited a load of daemonettes and paints so starting this project on the cheap and can’t wait. I love seeing how you achieve a similar style without using streaking grime, which I genuinely thought all Grim Dark was. Without blowing too much smoke up your bum, this channel is truly inspiring and your instagram makes me sick. Keep up the good work.
This skin tone is perfect for what I'm after thank you, just wondering can you sub the oil wash for very thinned down agrax earthshade/nuln oil to creat the shadows?
Thanks Tom! You do have to wait a good while to go back in with the drybrushing although not the normal few days for oils to cure fully. I think I waited a few hours and that was sufficient!
I wish there was a suitable alternative from other brands for rakarth flesh. I don't mind gw pots as much as most people, but variety and choice wouldn't hurt, but that is 1 color that nobody seems to have an alternative for, because everyone who does paler and grittier skin always uses that
Sooo...i know this is an old video. Its an oil finish then a clean up with oil thinner? The same method as enamel and Q tip thinner?? Am i getting that right???
You can do it without the airbrush but to be honest it's not quite as effective. You'll struggle a little with getting a nice even coating using the Oil wash. Otherwise it's perfectly fine by brush!
I just remember the original Keeper I’d Sectets model. To me it was just a big demon to rival the Bloodthirster, with a different aesthetic.. but still a bestial head etc. to me it was a demon which hinted at mystery due to its name (secrets) .. and came from some standard demonic fictional hell realm. I don’t remember all the ‘excess’ and sensuality ideas having being fleshed out then.
To me dark slaanesh is a bit boring, a brightly colored slaanesh feels more dangerous because it tries to melt in but cant because it is completely alien so rather than camouflage itself it makes the mistake that brightly colors so instead invoking a safe feeling it has intense color that makes it feeling dangerous like Poison frogs and other such creatures
Brillant concept and painting ! The better way to add a touch of darkness to anything..is to take a bit of inspiration from The Master of Devilness himself: H.R. GIGER 👀👀
Love your painting. However. The FW model is endlessly better and more fitting for the dark prince. Slaanesh is NOT about "oh its both gender hihihi and very persian". Slaanesh is about obscene perverting primitive depravity to the extreme. If you want a well behaved noble Gentleman... Go tzeentch. I get that the game is PG13. But still... Ehh... Sad how they made Slaanesh "inoffensive" while EVERYTHING about Slaanesh is about BEING as offensive as possible.

This is excellent. I would love a further tutorial on the rest of the model or on your slaanesh models in general!

In my opinion Slaanesh looks the most Satanic imo, the Keeper of Secrets looks like a Baphomet.
This is the skin tone I've been chasing for years....thank you!
You are welcome!
Thank you for this - inspired to add more depth to my Slaanesh daemon skin
You are welcome bud, thanks for watching! 👍
Really really great colour scheme and Video!!! Thanks for sharing

Thankyou Lucina!
That skin look sickly. Really excellent job. Well done.
Thanks bud!
Very nice! Can't wait to see more of your stuff
Thankyou! There is plenty more to come!
Been doing skin like this for my DG for a bit now, adds a nice creepy vibe. Glazing red in near wounds or where flesh meets some metal adds a nice touch of color.
A few spots of red can give it a load of depth too! Though when I get to Khorne there will be a lot more red.....
Oh Dark Prince, I shivered with antici... pation!
Haha knew you'd be waiting for this one!
Super paint job!!! Really inspiring!
I'll be building a small Slaanesh diorama soon and will definitely use this as inspiration!
Thankyou! I'd love to see the Diorama when you've finished it!
I’m glad I found your channel! I think I saw your video posted in the Facebook group. Really awesome paint job dude.
Fantastic video dude! Great job! Stunning model!
Thanks bud!
Absolutely LOVE this color scheme!
Thankyou!
@@SprayBlackStudios you’re welcome. Would love to see what you’d do with Synessa or Dexcessa

Looks superb dude, excellent video!
Thanks bud!
Awesome tutorial - I love how the skintone came out. I have a an unbuilt Slaanesh army sat on my shelf, might take them in this direction :)
Thanks bud! Obviously I am gonna say that an unbuilt Slaanesh army needs to become a built and painted Slaanesh army....
Any progress updates?
Very cool. I wonder how a purple oil wash would look.
Great stuff. I don't like overdoing Slaaneshi stuff, it can make it look a bit cartoony, so this has given me some great ideas!
Thanks! Yeah the cartoony look really doesn't do it for me either!

Soooo gooood! Love your videos
Just won another subscriber. Great job brother
Thankyou! Welcome onboard!
It’s a masterful grimdark job ! Cheers mate !
This is stunning! Great work
Hello, amazing video. Happy as I am progressing through the steps on this right now. What Abteilung colors did you use if I may ask please? I know you said brown and black.
Got some demonetts coming so might try this on one of them
Which abteilung colors did you use for the wash?
Recently built a Keeper of Secrets and I'll be going down to Sons of Malice color scheme
very good the skin colour does make it look more scary.
Thank you , Rich ,
Good upload , nice work.
Was a little confused about the hair product advert at the end though , was it Loreal ? ( Coz ya worth it !) 😍😘🤣
🐺
Thanks Lou!
Actually, I do use Loreal 😂😂
Would love a video on how to paint the rest of it. :)
I do really like that Slaanesh has become a focal point of AOS and so far the writers did well incredibly so… but I’m waiting for the collapse like Horus heresy
Very nice, while I do like bright colourful Slaanesh as well, this is a great take! 🔥
There is definitely place for both styles, maybe not in the same army though..... that would look weird 😂
@@SprayBlackStudios Although now I'm really itching to try your techniques on top of those bright pink hues. At least conceptually, having those garish colours and then dirtying them up with dark oils might reflect the idea of Slaanesh quite well, too.

Question. The links included don’t include the materials for the oil wash. Could I get those? I don’t see a black oil wash in that brand.
Hey!
The two Oils that I used for the wash were:
elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/paints-washes-etc/abteilung/black?d=10748
And
elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/paints-washes-etc/abteilung/brown-whash?d=10748
@@SprayBlackStudios Thank you! And what did you mix the oils with? I couldn't catch the name and I assume it isn't normal water.

Absolutely love the color.
Absolutely hate Slaneesh.
Absolutely going to steal this for my tyranids skin.

Jesus Christ. You have outdone yourself 😍😍
Great video. The aesthetic is awesome. Did you have to wait for the oil wash to dry before dry brushing the highlights?
Thanks Tom! You do have to wait a good while to go back in with the drybrushing although not the normal few days for oils to cure fully. I think I waited a few hours and that was sufficient!

Yeah I really wish I could find an appropriate conversion. I don't even mind the GW pots but some of their paints really aren't that good!
Thanks! Fun to watch
Hey! What kind of colors did you use for the metal? Looks so good!
could i use a citadel wash instead of the oil wash and if so what colour ? cheers!
Sooo...i know this is an old video. Its an oil finish then a clean up with oil thinner?
The same method as enamel and Q tip thinner?? Am i getting that right???
Scariest Greater Daemon of Slaanesh, ZARAKYNEL (the soul stealer) ‘nuff said. Most scariest of any model. In my humble opinion
Amazing!
what color did you use on the clothing?
Looks amazing, really inspiring! How did you paint the rest of the model?
Thankyou! I don't currently have tutorials for all of the other parts of this model but they may be coming in the future....
@@SprayBlackStudios That would be amazing! Really inspired me to paint some Slaanesh daemons
Great video
I like what you did, but I think I'll stick with my lightly tanned Slaaneshi daemons for creepy/scary factor. :)
Can i do this without airbrush?
You can do it without the airbrush but to be honest it's not quite as effective. You'll struggle a little with getting a nice even coating using the Oil wash. Otherwise it's perfectly fine by brush!
Total horror movie vibes! Looks like a Cenobyte.
This is super cool, just can't stand airbrushing.
Thankyou! The airbrushing isn't essential in this scheme although it does make things much easier!
i really want to transfer this kind of grimdark scary slaanesh vibe to my emperor's children but im not sure how to

HR Giger inspires most things that I do! If I am struggling for inspiration I actually often go and watch Alien!
I appreciate the work that went into this, but it is rather drab and a bit bland.
