    Welcome to the 17th episode of the Texas Plinking 1 MOA At 1,000 Yards Challenge. A monthly video series where I let 5 fans come out with their equipment and attempt to shoot a 10" gong at 1,000 yards in under 10 shots. If they hit it, they can use their remaining shots on the 5" gong. The 10" gong is worth 10 points and goes down 1 point after every shot. The 5" gong is worth 20 points and goes down 2 points after every shot. Once both are hit, the challenge is complete and each unfired round is an additional point. New episodes go live on the 1st Monday of every month!

      It would be better if you had a spotters scope just behind the shooter and to the left of right of him, so that you can record what the projectile is doing, put this way i believe i would have a good go at it, if someone would lend a good F class match rifle ,as i have shot at 1,200 yards with very high winds and still get the v's and even score a 48/50 at those distances and thats with a 5.56mm x 51 ,sure custom loads, but its all about the weapon system, if its all been blueprinted and balanced etc, which none of the men or shooters mention if the weapons they are using are or not, just saying thats all.
      But then again i know a good weapon system cost around 10k or better still i wonder if someone will bring the new MK22 which is around 20K in AU dollars and depending on which caliber you ask for as its a MRAD system. cheers 👍🦘👌✌

As stated I’m a comp shooter and many Texas shooters weigh their rifles down to get easy visual on impacts and splashes to correct quickly in the smaller 2 min windows. Also significantly reduces felt recoil. Furthermore a muzzle brake alone or weights alone won’t get you the comp gun you want.

      @@APlife764 I know these are excuses at the end of the day, but I’ll try to explain my perspective lol.
      It’s hard to tell in the video but where we were shooting from was angled downhill. My bipod was maxed out and the gun was still super low so I had crappy recoil management and that’s why I couldn’t see my misses. I normally see all my impacts at 600 on full magnification so I was really aggravated. After he turned the cameras off I put the bipod on a flat rock for some extra elevation and got it dialed in for an impact on round 6 and then hit pretty consistent from then on. I’m super disappointed I didn’t hit it but I know what was wrong and a simple flat rock fixed it right up lol
      The gun and ammo were definitely up to the task. All of the rounds that are bunched on top of each other in the video are from me holding same point of aim cus I couldn’t tell where my misses were to make adjustments. I saw rounds 4, 8, and 10 impact. I knew they were all right so I just added 1.5 MOA to my wind hold on round 10 and missed by almost exactly that much lol.

    I bought a 6.5CM Ruger Precision a couple years ago. Used, low round count - for less than $900. I added an Atlas bipod, mono-pod for the rear, and a Athlon Midas 5x-25x scope. It is a cheat code at 700 yards (longest range accessible to me.) This was also the first caliber I started reloading - and that was easy as well with a basic Hornady Lock & Load setup. When it cools off, I have scouted a few good spots where I can shoot 1000+ and I am excited to see how it does. The RPRs are fantastic rifles for the money.

    To Ethan, man you're close... You want to hold that rear bag with your left hand and give it a squeeze to hold your elevation solid, but let the bipod do its _own_ thing, otherwise the bag tends to sag under recoil. You were shooting right, probably zoomed way too close to see your own splash? Zoom out a bit so you have more field of view. As several sniper instructors have stated, extra magnification only magnifies your _own_ errors, so "less is more" accurate. That rifle's a shooter if you add those two shooting fundamentals!

    I'm impressed with the grouping that the Ruger American was giving. That guy had the trigger control and consistency to hit that plate if he could see where his shots were going. Looked like he was having trouble without a spotter. That light gun and bipod was probably pretty unstable for spotting.

    Well... i instantly knew that it would be a heck of a challenge for the first bergara guy. The carbon fibre barrels are fine for hunting, but not especially for target shooting at long distances. That was simply the wrong tool for the task.

  • @JimYeats
    @JimYeats 3 месяца назад +1

    Kind of puts into perspective the long-range hunters who are claiming 1000 yard shots. I'm not making any judgements, but when we've now watched 17 of these episodes and only one or two have had first round hits. That's with heavy precision rigs, stable shooting position, known elevation change, perfectly known distance, high contrast targets, and all the time you want. All I can say is; if you're genuinely making hunting shots at, let's say, 800-1000+ yards (which a loooooooot of people claim to have done), then that is one heck of shot.

    Brother I have an idea to take this to a whole different level. It is the one part missing that would be easy to add. Well two things: 1.) heartbeat while each person is shooting on monitor and paired with the sound in the background. 2.) a separate mic for the wind or a gauge at the shooter and rid yourself of the wind on their current mic.
    Just some thoughts to keep more engagement because imo a live heartbeat as they are going through their cycles would be awesome. Lowest of all time type stuff, shooting between heartbeats, etc. could be interesting

      I agree man. Awesome rifle. I love the gun but just couldn’t stay in the scope with the downhill slope of the ground there and my bipod maxed out. The gun definitely wasnt the issue! After we got done filming I got a rock under my bipod where I had a better position behind the gun and started ringing the 10” pretty regular.
