Yeah these are just some doodles I come up with from time to time, proceeds to show us a handwritten notebook so intricate and thorough that it looks like it was made in a factory.
+Luis Garcia I am Mexican too, but saying that we are separate from Latinos and Hispanics is kind of ignorant and it gives off the appearance of having a superiority complex. Just stop it.
I love that he doesn't use CGI as a be-all end-all technique. It's so much more genuine with practical effects especially when you do it right and it looks realistic, or at least it fits the atmosphere.
Guillermo Del Toro is a genius. His use of intricate detail and his fantastic amount of thought and planning that are present in all of his films just really sets him above the rest. Not to say that other directors/film-makers don't put a lot of planning into their films but I just think that this man is purely brilliant.
No he has his own style that is too unique. As is Stephen King's style and imagination. It would not work so well. Especially for IT. If he were to direct a Stephen King adaptation I think he'd be great for Salem's Lot or The Tommyknockers, those two stories are the nearest stories that Del Toro and King could come together and work. A book I wish Del Toro would adapt as director and producer is a novel called The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. If you read that book you automatically think of Del Toro, the visual style of both the book and Del Toro as a director is the perfect match. Neil Gaiman would have to write the script though, as only Gaiman could adapt the story as a script.
guillermo del toro is an amazing director. Cronos, devil's backbone, hellboy, pans labryinth, and hellboy II are all amazing movies...cant wait for pacific rim
Guillermo would have made The Hobbit SUCH a better movie than it is. Fucking shame. I still don't really know the details about how that happened, but I know it's a real shame we didn't get to see a Guillermo del Toro Hobbit.
@TyrannosaurusBoz In the page where the Chtulu-like monster is says: 1) We are on the other side of death. 2) Strenght 3 ) Direct from the Dead 4) I'm cold, very cold 5 ) Don't leave me alone 6 ) We are here, with you. Things like that, I love Guillermo and his creepyness just make it better.
Wow, he's so right about Terry Gilliam, and god damn, I just about shit a brick when he said he's working on a film version of "At the Mountains of Madness." First I ever heard of that.
Is he really working on a film version of At the Mountains of Madness? I'm reading that story right now! It's so awesome! I can't wait to see a film version of it
Ok, I have mad respect for Peter Jackson, but I was really looking forward to Guillermo's take on The Hobbit. Everything he does has amazingly dark depth. He makes the dark side intriguing and interesting, not necessarily scary.
No kiddin! I wish I could draw like that... Hell, I'd be happy if I could even WRITE in a straight line without marked lines on the pages. :S But damn... he's not just a great minded director- he has a very powerful imagination, as well as good artistic skill. I wonder what tools he uses for drawing and coloring....
omg i also have lucid dreams, sometimes im scare of them because it feels so real, i haven't seen a monster in my dreams ever but i can explore places and seen weird and funny situations, sometimes is like a movie like im floating around and watching a movie , sometimes im not me and i am a man or a woman, a child or even an animal, i even dreamed of waking up and doing stuff like going to the bathroom or do some work to find out later that it was a dream and that the reality is that i haven't done any work.
si nosotros estamos traumados con que no pudiera dirigir el hobbit, imaginense como estará el. but know that about 70% of the costumes and 60% of the beasts, and the script, all those things were done when he was still on bosrd, so the hobbit still has a lot of him in it :) cheer up! te queremos memo
@RealFerrante They're pretty much equally good XD I mean Jackson made the Lord of the Rings movies didn't he? And they all got A's, same thing with Del Toro's Pans Labyrinth. And I just used Peter Jackson cause most people I end up being around talk about him more often, and don't really say much about Hellboy, the movies Guillermo made, or even him self. Even though I love his movies and style of directing.
Peter Jackosn won´t be able to do what you would have done to the hobbit! I was hoping to see you realizing this movie... we are all sad! Existence lost one fragment of meaning
Can't insult the hobbit simply because GDT helped write it, and it was made to be more of a children's story. But I will say it wasn't the best and a little bit overboard with being childish.
Actually the company that was supposed to produce it went bankrupt and he stepped down. Then when New Line took over,he was already working on his own project,so they brought back Jackson.Get your facts straight before you speak up.And The Hobbit is a great movie. It's not LotR,but it really cant be,simply because its not 2001 anymore and that type of fantasy is not new anymore and the source material is a much simpler book, that is only about a dude who goes on an adventure with some dwarfs.
And why is that racist? Obviously you have never been in Mexico, we are a mixture of spanish (who have a mix of arabs), french, anglo, ans obviously indian (spanish did not kill them all). So you would realize that mexicans are dark, white, short, tall, etc ... But I don´t really expect you underestand it
American? There are so many different types of people in the Americas. Oh, you mean he looks US American? Yeah, my point still stands. Does look Asian American? Black? Hispanic? Middle Eastern?
Well, the argument that film studios don't want to produce it because of Prometheus seems to be a pretty shitty case. That can't be it. Hollywood shills out intellectually bankrupt shit like a shit factory all the time, with movies completely ripping off of the ideas of each other. Also, it's not like a there wouldn't be an audience for a fucking LOVECRAFT movie - they should do their research and find out just how popular he's become in recent years. Anyway, do you have a link for this?
whats wrong with the hobbith, del toro didnt want to make it or what??

You're not racist, just ignorant... google Hiram Mier or Alexander Acha and you'll see that Mexicans can be as white as it gets, we're not a racially homogenous country at all.
his passion and sacrifice almost moved me to tears.

Carlos Calderon not ignorant just stupid
Del Toro why are you so awesome?
Wow, he's literally an artist, both in movies and on paper!
I love that he doesn't use CGI as a be-all end-all technique. It's so much more genuine with practical effects especially when you do it right and it looks realistic, or at least it fits the atmosphere.
One of my favourites directors.
Greetings from Spain :)
I love his visual style! Another amazing film maker.
He's my favorite living director. I adore him!
Guillermo Del Toro is a genius. His use of intricate detail and his fantastic amount of thought and planning that are present in all of his films just really sets him above the rest. Not to say that other directors/film-makers don't put a lot of planning into their films but I just think that this man is purely brilliant.
What an amazing artist!
great interview, that notebook was so cool.Guillermo Del Toro is my favorite film directors.
what a guy what a guy! I am an absolute fan of his, just no words
I wish this guy would take on the remake of Stephen King's It. His style suits that film very well and he would work wonders with Pennywise.
Omg!
No he has his own style that is too unique. As is Stephen King's style and imagination. It would not work so well. Especially for IT. If he were to direct a Stephen King adaptation I think he'd be great for Salem's Lot or The Tommyknockers, those two stories are the nearest stories that Del Toro and King could come together and work.

guillermo del toro is an amazing director. Cronos, devil's backbone, hellboy, pans labryinth, and hellboy II are all amazing movies...cant wait for pacific rim
This man is somethin else.
he's so amazing
Hey good news! It seems Del Toro is reconsidering and might come back and make it!
Guillermo would have made The Hobbit SUCH a better movie than it is. Fucking shame. I still don't really know the details about how that happened, but I know it's a real shame we didn't get to see a Guillermo del Toro Hobbit.

Things like that, I love Guillermo and his creepyness just make it better.
Pans Labyrinth and the Hellboy films are probably Guillermo's best.
Wow, he's so right about Terry Gilliam, and god damn, I just about shit a brick when he said he's working on a film version of "At the Mountains of Madness." First I ever heard of that.
i can see this interview seriously, the host makes so many weird faces that crack me up
Whenever Guillermo talks, I make this face 2:55
Is he really working on a film version of At the Mountains of Madness? I'm reading that story right now! It's so awesome! I can't wait to see a film version of it
His accent changes like mine haha
This guy is an absolute genius.
...
Am I the only one who, looking at Del Toro, never would have imagined he'd sound like that?
3:03 His silent laughter cracks me up!
The Mexican Stanley Kubrick
I don’t think so, he is his own thing. there’s really no comparison.
Ok, I have mad respect for Peter Jackson, but I was really looking forward to Guillermo's take on The Hobbit. Everything he does has amazingly dark depth. He makes the dark side intriguing and interesting, not necessarily scary.
Del Toro you sir are the Stanley Kurbrick of Fantasy films. You're the Orson Welles.
You are a Genius!!!!
I agree with Guillermo on the SFX
I love his views on CGI
daaraa dil daaraa dil daar-e-daanii

4:35 damn, film industry is a tough business
omg i also have lucid dreams, sometimes im scare of them because it feels so real, i haven't seen a monster in my dreams ever but i can explore places and seen weird and funny situations, sometimes is like a movie like im floating around and watching a movie , sometimes im not me and i am a man or a woman, a child or even an animal, i even dreamed of waking up and doing stuff like going to the bathroom or do some work to find out later that it was a dream and that the reality is that i haven't done any work.

GUILLERMO DEL TORO RULES!!!!
YES HE IS MEXICAN !!!
si nosotros estamos traumados con que no pudiera dirigir el hobbit, imaginense como estará el. but know that about 70% of the costumes and 60% of the beasts, and the script, all those things were done when he was still on bosrd, so the hobbit still has a lot of him in it :) cheer up! te queremos memo
For some reason I don't recall really enjoying hellboy or hellboy II. Maybe I will give them a try again?
well said
He's so fucking cool.
@RealFerrante They're pretty much equally good XD I mean Jackson made the Lord of the Rings movies didn't he? And they all got A's, same thing with Del Toro's Pans Labyrinth. Can someone fill me in on why Guillermo walked away from the Hobbit (movie)?
Wonder how much those notebooks will be worth!
Priceless

Next Quest: Del Toro's Lost Note Book.
Yeah, I quickly looked it up after he said that, and it looks like it's not going to get made T_T

@mac19971 Excuse me... Peter Jackson is New Zealand's Guillermo del Toro ;)
@emilay88 lol what the hell was that? That face will inspire Guillermo for the next 10 years.
This guy is a genius, I swear. It's even better that he's Mexican :)
who was the french director he mention in reference to Gilliam?
jean pierre jeunet. Director of Amelie, City of Lost Children, and... Aliens Resurrection :)
Tony Hyun Micmacs which is one of my favorite movies
When he dies, that book will be worth thounsands of dollars.
D: ONO THEY'RE TAKING OVER!
how did he color his drawings
I know that they are not Mexicans, but they strongly resemble how most Mexicans look
Guillermo del Toro = Mexican Peter Jackson
I like Guillermo del Toros films, becou he didnt use animation!
He does use CGI! But! He does it tastefully and as something that can enhance the story-not to make his job easier.
XD!!!
He made a deal with monsters early on, huh? Sold his soul, did he?
well me too but check out his passport and Visa xD!
Peter Jackosn won´t be able to do what you would have done to the hobbit!
I was hoping to see you realizing this movie... we are all sad! Existence lost one fragment of meaning
So that notebooks says really creepy things.
