AC/DC was formed in Sydney, Australia. The band on this song includes lead singer Brian Johnson, lead guitarist Angus Young, Angus' brother, rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young; bass guitarist Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd. This was their first album with new lead singer, Brian Johnson, who replaced original singer Bon Scott, who died in 1980 at the age of 33 from acute alcohol poisoning. The song, and the album, also called "Back in Black" was recorded as a tribute to Bon. As for the name, Malcolm Young saw the name of the back of his sister, Margaret Young's sewing machine. The letters, AC/DC stand for "Alternating Current/Direct Current", and was chosen because they thought it fit their "high voltage" sound. Sadly, Malcolm Young passed away in 2017 at the age of 64 from complications of dementia.

You will miss a LOT watching them love, with your eyes closed- watching them is just as impressive- their live performances from River Plate will blow you away- wait til you see the crowd!😳🤯 “Hells Bells”, “Whole Lotta Rosie” , “Shook me all night long”- that BARELY scratches the surface with them! ALWAYS have that fan on hand with AC/DC live from River Plate!! I believe it stands for alternate current/direct current- The one and only Angus Young on guitar- People will often mention Bon Scott who sang prior, before he passed- RIP!! Brian Johnson is singing here and is my fav- he was with them longest as well- and Angus and those skinny legs- you ain’t seen nothing yet!!! The duck walk he does and on and on!! AC and DC are different types of electrical current. The band AC/DC have a lighting flash in their logo. Angus Young is the main guitarist, and his stage outfit is of a schoolboy uniform. Hence the shorts. Usually he also wears an old style school cap (he's a very short skinny guy).

Back in Black was written after AC/DC's original singer, Bon Scott died. They replaced him with Brian Johnson and recorded the album "Back in Black" When the band asked Johnson to write a lyric for this song, "they said, 'it can't be morbid - it has to be for Bon and it has to be a celebration.'"
Never heard that. Nice. I did hear that though uncredited, Bon Scott did write material that was used for this album. I can't imagine why he wasn't credited. I didn't hear that it was anything crooked either. His estate may have been paid because I've never heard anything bad about it.

I bought the Album when it first came out....and my Mom freaked out over the titles and lyrics 😳, she took me along with my album for a refund at the record store. I told her they wouldn't refund after it'd been opened......but that cashier couldn't get that refund transaction done fast enough 😆. I had taped it already on my cheapo K-mart stereo system 😉. The music of my youth and rebelliousness ;40 years later it is advertising for Walmart Black Friday and also for a Pest Control company too....oh, how things change 🙄.
I'm 54 now, and the Back in Black CD sits in my car console ready to be deployed at a moments notice. See, Mom....it didn't turn me into Devil Worshipper after all 😁....but I love to jam still 🤘rock on)))).

Exactly I was in jr high when this album came out. That was the consensus in my group of friends. We felt like we lost a great one in Bon, but rock and roll will never die.
@@johngambrel2953 The day this album came out in Australia, I went and bought it (cassette tape!). Then a friend and I drove around the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne all morning with it blasting 11 out of 10 out of his car stereo (played the whole album twice). Then we went to the pub for lunch and then played the album twice more on the way home - perfect day, really.
It sounds kind of strange that a band that has been around since the 70s, has been hugely popular, and has a huge catalog of music that you've never heard of. It's astonishing but I guess it simply happens. Thanks for discovering them.

This song and LP were dedicated to Bon Scott, the former singer who drank himself to death. He was a former convict who was incredibly smart, a former convict, a ladies man and as the guitarist once said "always knew the right cop to punch." This song was a way of saying he is immortal. Most of the bad to this day says that he is in the studio with them in a very palpable way. Like, his spirit hangs around and keeps watch to make sure they don't fuck up. Even Brian, the lead singer now, was recommended by Bon if "anything happens to me." It's not an accident that Back in Black is the second greatest selling record of all time after Thriller.

Malcolm and Angus are very small men. They are only about 5'2". There growth was stunted by drinking water from lead pipes in Scotland. Brian, the singer, is very small as well.

Pure rock is what they deliver. When the Rolling Stones came to Toronto, these guys were the support. To the crown they WERE the act they had come to see.
Angus joined the band as a 14 or 15 year old little brother of Malcolm and would go to rehearsals (and gigs) in his school uniform, hence the shorts and skinny legs. Still 45+ years later his legs are still on show!

When the band first came out, there were so many different rumors about the meaning of the name. Some of the people that were against hard rock music even said it meant Anti Christ- Devil Child. Angus said the name had no deep meaning, his sister saw it on the side of the family sewing machine. AC/DC just mean alternating current/direct current.

My first experience of AC/DC was when I as about 5 or 6 and my cousin, who was in his late teens, played me Big Balls at full volume. He proceeded afterwards to play me Sweaty Betty by the Mac Lads! Not exactly age appropriate, but even then I knew a good band when I heard one.
AC/DC are electronic terminology. AC is Alternating Current and DC is Direct Current. Many electrical item would have a switch labelled AC/DC.
The phrase Back In Black is usually used in financial terms. There was a time when if your bank account went into negative figures it would be printed in red on your bank statement instead of in black. Likewise, if you were in arrears in your utility bills they would send bills printed in red. To be “back in black” meant that you had been in the financial doldrums but were now back in the money. I don’t know if this is the meaning they had in mind.
The singer, Brian Johnson, was replacing their first singer Bon Scott who had died the previous year. This was Johnson’s first song with the band. They told him that the song had to be a celebration of Scott and so he needed to write an upbeat song in order to pay tribute to his late predecessor.
WRONG! Go listen to Bon sing Back in Black. It was written well before his death.
