Try shooting most of your video with the phone in horizontal position - Landscape mode, not Portrait mode, as you've been doing. Landscape mode FILLS the screen and allows widest angles for inclusion of people and objects. Portrait is good for videoing people in hallways or anything(s) that are stacked below and on top of each other.
