Seems like we have come full circle back to what a traditional drip coffee machine does lol. That being said, I can't wait for my Melodrip to arrive and to start brewing in my V60 with it.

Hahaha i get your point - it really does seem that way. In my case my favorite right now is the Timemore Water Dropper. Its a lot more gentle giving you a sweeter cup. Plus the delay on the flowrate is amazingly accurate. I have yet to get my hands on a melodrip though.

Drip assist is also great for when you just woke up and don’t even want to think about making coffee

You get more bypass the way you pour, if you use 10 gr coffe, pour 3X coffe in center to bloom =30gr.
Then wait 10-20 seconds and pour again 30 gr in center, then remining pour in outer ring.
Then you get more extraction from the coffe and less bypass.

So basically this drip assist turned the Hario V60 into an OXO Good Grips pour-over maker. So, get the OXO for less money.

I have the OXO, I use the tank when lazy. I don't want to babysit it.
I like that it has a tank lid that server as a sauce for the dripper when done.
So good for a desktop use.
It makes better coffee than office, nice for motel with access to hot water, but the tank just has some very small holes about the middle diameter of the tank.
This drip assist has more functionality and is still a hand pour. It's just controlling the rate of flow and impact to coffee, concisely.
You can do a standard bloom with it, center holes, and the rest of the pours using the outer ring.
The OXO is just designed to dump all the water quickly into the tank and put the lid on the tank to keep hot while it drips.
The assist can also do a 4:6 pour, easier, using the specific V60 4:6 dripper.
It has a round hole at the bottom, not that gear hole, the grooves stop short of going all the way down.
It is designed for a slower drip rate than the standard V60 using much coaser coffee.
The reason is because some roasts, light, medium, dark, need a lower temperature and so more contact with the coffee, doing a 4:6 pour.
The OXO is cheap, the dripper is well made, and it uses standard V paper filters. It's worth getting, if for nothing else, as a backup.
You can hand pour better coffee, but as I say, passable coffee.
It's cheap enough to take camping and use.
I do find myself doing a bloom, then putting on the tank, filling the OXO's tank, but you need scales to do so, or pre-measured water by volume.
Used as per instructions, you quick fill to the tanks water marking, so, no scales needed, so as I say good for camping, it's beats cowboy coffee which is a poor man's French press, without the press.

The Hario V60 is NOT an immersion maker, it is a pour-over, if there is no way to hold the water in the reservoir to soak in the grounds it's not an immersion maker. However, Hario does make the V60 Switch, which is a true immersion maker like a Cold Brew maker, French Press or the AeroPress is, so if you want a stronger cup of coffee buy the Switch.
I have the Switch so this is how I make coffee with it, of course, you don't have to do it my way, but it does come out strong.
First I pour the water over the grounds just enough to soak the grounds and no more, let it set for about 30 to 45 seconds; then pour in the rest of my water and stir the grounds for 60 seconds with a wooden chopstick so as not to scratch the glass, doing this will prevent floaters, and floaters do not give off their flavor as well; then I let the the concoction sit for 7 to 8 minutes. The other thing I do is I found a plastic lid that fits perfectly over the top of the Switch, you can use plastic wrap too, but I put the lid on as soon as I stop the stirring, this helps hold the heat in longer while it's sitting for 7 to 8 minutes.
Two things about the switch that people complain about, but it is user error, not a product error, but people like to complain.
The first thing is, what seals the liquid from going into the cup is a ball bearing and gravity, if you tip the Switch sideways or upside down that bearing is going to come out of the Switch and bounce around to who knows where and you could lose it, so be mindful of that bearing.
The second thing is the plastic switch, you have to be gentle with it, it takes very little pressure to open and close it, people are using too much pressure and pop the lever off then they call it broken, actually it is not broken they just know how to reinstall it! I have accidentally dislodged the lever and I was able to put it back on.
Do not wash the Switch in the dishwasher, the rubber base will eventually crack as will the plastic lever, wash it gently by hand and rinse it really well. I only wash mine when I notice a tiny bit of discoloration in the glass bowl, otherwise, I simply rinse it under hot water allowing the water to pour through the hole left open by the switch in the down position with my sink sprayer, and it's good to go.
Remember, do not forget about that ball bearing!

I forgot to mention, I do add about 10 grams more coffee into the Switch than the instructions say to use, I like the taste better when I do that.
