My son is just beginning to study the horn. It is so wonderful to be able to share these videos and see his face light up. Thank you so much for making these excerpts available!
Everything about this video is just perfect. Every part is nails and the parts that should be brought out are brought out. Masterful job by Barenboim as usual. One of the greatest musical minds of our time.
I love that video of Celebedach rehearsing this piece with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart. Just shows how much goes into the final product. Barenboim knows what I'm talking about.
I would never believe, that Strauss can be performed like this!!! Could really any other orchestra in the world match this? Just everything is damm good! oboe, clarinets, flutes, horns...... I'd give thousands of bugs to hear this life, but it is late now :(.
@sportsfan1937 The first flutist is Emmanuel Palud (it's true: wind players are rarely the same ones in Berliner Philharmoniker concerts!). And Barenboïm's interpretation is splendid, as usual (and, as usual, by heart, like, for instance, in all Wagner's operas!).
In my college humanities course, the main professor had three guest lecturers on music. Each one, unknown to the others, used this piece as a prime example of their favorite (and different) epoch in music history. The third time it was met with an uproar of laughter...which I imagine would have pleased the impish elf himself.
@sportsfan1937 It is partly because the orchestra gives more concerts (about 130 a year) than it can perform with own forces. In addition there are several vacant positions covered by substititutes, and we have the mambers of our Orchestra Academy who play in the orchestra on a regular basis.
I do not know from this excerpt whether this performance could stack up against former formidable (and legendary) interpretations. However, I quite like how Barenboim and BPO bring out the woodwind texture in Till, a feature that is often obscured by the prominent brass, though modern technology probably helps a lot in achieving this aim.
HappyWandy457 @BerlinPhil Ever tried to tune properly Bruckner´s 4th. Symphony´s entrance???? And bring it over with resound up to its culmination??? Then you can tell something about this master instrument!!!! Hans Fröhlich - Germany
@Severolus No composer is ever reborn, which is a good thing, because imitators never do justice to the original. What would be pretty sweet though is if we could revive the greatest composers from the dead and let them continue to write their amazing music.
@BerlinPhil I'm not an expert on selling stuff or anything, but I do know that many people I know would be willing to purchase recordings and videos, but not a digital concert hall pass. I know you'd probably be worried about them getting released, just thought I'd throw my useless thought in there. I would personally pay a lot to purchase a video of one performance. You probably know what you're doing though haha so don't listen to me. (not sarcasm)
@muslit - Well. . . Well . . . Eversince a musician gets hot about senseless things written in music-paper, the whole art they are playing, will be trembling . . . Never forget: Heartfull music is love and never argue with love! Music is a real religion: The more you love it, the more you approach God! It is very simple and you do not have to overcome sinn . . . Because it has no concept live the word does . . . Hans Fröhlich - Germany
@froehlicherelter i've not only played an instrument in an orchestra (my whole life), but i've conducted one - and who's talking about 'silence'? you are, not me - read my post again
HappyWandy457, because you never played an instrument in an orchestra! Wy is it that silence has to be specified on note paper? Hans Fröhlich - Germany
That horn section is amazing. All of Baborak's pitches are perfectly PERFECTLY centered and the result is the most beautiful playing on earth
My son is just beginning to study the horn. It is so wonderful to be able to share these videos and see his face light up. Thank you so much for making these excerpts available!
¡¡¡¡Maravilloso los cornos!!!! bravísimo
Everything about this video is just perfect. Every part is nails and the parts that should be brought out are brought out. Masterful job by Barenboim as usual. One of the greatest musical minds of our time.
To let the worlds greatest orchestra loose on Richard Strauss is bound to be earth shattering!
c'est un enchantement, cet orchestre est magnifique, je ne m'en lasse pas de l'écouter.
Some tasty horn playing.
I love that video of Celebedach rehearsing this piece with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart. Just shows how much goes into the final product. Barenboim knows what I'm talking about.
Wow this sounds amazing!!! Those Horns are superb.
That first horn solo is UNBELIEVABLE
I would never believe, that Strauss can be performed like this!!! Could really any other orchestra in the world match this? Just everything is damm good! oboe, clarinets, flutes, horns...... I'd give thousands of bugs to hear this life, but it is late now :(.

Barenboim is a BOSS
@sportsfan1937 The first flutist is Emmanuel Palud (it's true: wind players are rarely the same ones in Berliner Philharmoniker concerts!). And Barenboïm's interpretation is splendid, as usual (and, as usual, by heart, like, for instance, in all Wagner's operas!).

Oh my goodness! A Wahnsinn!!!!!!
Long live Radek Baborak, the world's best french horn player!
Thank you for existing, Berliner Philharmoniker!!!!
In my college humanities course, the main professor had three guest lecturers on music. Excelente la direccion del maestro Barenboim.
Yeah, Horns! Radek sounds wonderful as does that whole amazing section.
Sería maravilloso estar ahí, gracias.

If you needed any further proof for the extraordinary quality of this orchestra - you got it here!
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
Oh how I wish I could be at one of their concerts... I'd do anything! Great great orchestra.

In my opinion a fantastic interpretation, Inga
BARENBOIM IS BEST.
best video on youtube.
como el maestro radek no hay otro, eres mi idolo.
@1SquidBoy Unfortunately, these recordings are only available as a stream in our Digital Concert Hall.
Radek Baborak this is so much better.
Yes!
the cellist in front Emmanuel Pahud is so handsome and elegant
Mr. Barenboim has lost his boyish looks, but we all get old. Fabulous orchestra.
good flûte !!
值得讚許!

Would it be possible to buy the full length recordings for use on an mp3 player?
And good God the 'Bones just annihilate that part starting at 2:46. Doesn't get much better than that.
Sin comentarios, aqui toca hasta el que limpia las sillas !!
HappyWandy457 @BerlinPhil
Ever tried to tune properly Bruckner´s 4th. Symphony´s entrance???? And bring it over with resound up to its culmination???
Then you can tell something about this master instrument!!!!
Hans Fröhlich - Germany
The cellist in 0:11 is Valentin Radutiu?
Best part starts at 1:30
@Severolus No composer is ever reborn, which is a good thing, because imitators never do justice to the original. What would be pretty sweet though is if we could revive the greatest composers from the dead and let them continue to write their amazing music.
with the use of AI these things may be cloned.. sad but true
superklasse
is that Paul Hindemith's stunt double at 3:04?
@BerlinPhil I'm not an expert on selling stuff or anything, but I do know that many people I know would be willing to purchase recordings and videos, but not a digital concert hall pass. what is the name of the Eb clarinetist?
Who is the third horn?ignacio garcia???
The First Horn...Baborak
1:10 was the best
Nodame brought me here!!!
Do my eyes deceive me, or is that Christian Lindberg sitting in the front @ 2:44 ?
Not him.
The young brown-haired violinist at 1:21 could be me at a younger age... I guess that shows that I have German ancestry, maybe.
0:44 matt matusow on the horns.
i think its the same line that the flute plays
képtelenség megkapni?
@Severolus You never know. But maybe he might want to become a great skier this time out. Why do something twice?
Yeah, you can really tell the difference. They're still an amazing group, though. ^^

@foodmore i meant mike matusow
At 2:32, no one thought the girl in red dress sitting behind the timpani is HOT?! LOL
@TRINCA73 Particulièrement quand il est dirigé par des chefs de ce niveau (n'oubliez pas le rôle du chef).
@BerlinPhil Ignacio Garcia looks like the poker player mike matusow. haha
Das Solo ist nicht der schwierigste Teil. ;)
4 people failed to audition for the horn section in the berlin philharmonic

@ 1udwi6 at the same time, it is a bit repetitive after ...
@macintosh315 imslp has it.
Dat Brass.
Singapore symphony orchestra playing it here: /watch?v=27FU1ooUDYk&feature=related
what do you guys think?
@lk2178 i highly doubt it
those aren't french horns?
in that octave they sound very similar, but i think those are french horns, i could be wrong though
Of course it is french horns :) What else should it be? Very very VERY good hornplayers, playing on mostly Alexander horns.
Try to find one still musician... neither can I.
why, at 3:04, is Barenboim waving his arms, beating, when all that's going is a sustained drum roll? completely unnecessary.
lol
Radek Baborak macht den besten till eulenspiegel ... Mit Abstand !!!
HappyWandy457, because you never played an instrument in an orchestra!
Wy is it that silence has to be specified on note paper?
Hans Fröhlich - Germany
dear BPO please stop cutting your clips in stupid places. Thanks. My best, your audience.
