Just goes to show that whoever’s on the stage in the LSO (lots of subs, here), they better bring it. And they did. A wonderful performance. Clarity, no bloat, with fabulous playing from all sections. The young fellow on horn did a wonderful job. What’s his name, plz? Thanks for putting this up. Always a treat.
Call me spoiled, but I heard so many great performances of Till, that I can't avoid saying that his particular horn entrance lacks all the panache the solo needs. It was perfectly played. And lacked all character. I just recently listened to Szell's 1957 recording, and even though it was not as technically polished the solo sounded like it had balls. This one sounds like Till was an Eunuch. ;)
Excellent performance and thanks for posting this. Virtuosic playing throughout - as we can always expect from the LSO - and some excellent wind and brass playing in particular. Who is playing first horn in this performance? I saw Tim Jones bumping. Lots of new faces in the ranks.
The timpanist came in a bar late leading up to that moment and the cymbal part has that timpani cue written in, which is probably why the cymbal player came in wrong.
I have always loved this music!
Meraviglioso
Excellent, so many new nuances brought out!

@@Quotenwagnerianer if you want another great solo, check out Radek Baborak with the Berlin Phil and Barenboim!
Roth is phenomenal. And so is the orchestra....
Vigorous and quite impressionistic. Thank you for the (imo) impeccable performance.
這首曲子充分展現史特勞斯作曲的功力。

Excellent woodwind players ! Who is playing principal clarinet ?
The section on that day was:
Han Kim
Andrew Harper
Chi-Yu Mo
and Bass Clarinet Laurent Ben Slimane
The principal oboist is going to hit someone.
Appena discreta, nulla di più!
Ich bin der Einzige, der das nicht besonders amüsant findet.

Almost zero nuance. Although well played, I did not like the interpretation.
14:39 Late entry by the cymbalist

Non hai senso ritmico.
