Doctor Who review of Season 1 episode 8 the season finale. The BBC and Disney partnered to build up to this episode to save Disney+, and failed. With lots of plot threads left specially for this episode, you at least expected AN ANSWER. No, nothing, not a single care in order to make the story satisfying for the audience. This episode reaked to me of you've already sat through the messaging I wanted to send you, and so now why should I care at the end. This episode gets worse at it goes along just because you realise where the story is going. All the plotlines, every episode, none of it meant anything. It was just bad writing. I wasn't even a fan of the previous episodes, but somehow still managed to be disappointed by the story. This episode, is indefensible. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below, and as always, thanks for watching :)
And he's so bad at his job that he has now resurrected every foe and threat to existence that he has ever faced and killed back to life. Fans of this series more than I know how bad this is and that they can't continue after this, but boy it would be a laughing riot if they let that rock.
Honestly, If they had explained it that way it would have made the episode so much better. Sutekh was waiting for an incarnation of the Doctor that was so incompetent that he was sure to be able to beat him. What Sutekh didn't expect is that the Doctor is so important to the universe that his incompetence spread to everyone else in the universe that included Sutekh himself.... DUN DUN DUN....
I think that is 100% the case. Every preceding doctor (except the last two), had something definable (or indefinable) about their character where their opponent would either make a misstep, change their operations based on the Doctor's involvement, or flat out fail, or get kicked off the planet. I haven't seen that happen with this guy. In fact, if he was to apply for a job, the skill level would be above his ability, and only morons would hire him. But, you know, he does check all the boxes, and that's all I have to say about this decade.
They killed death before, I think in Torchwood, and the result was a living nightmare where everyone remained alive no matter how badly they were injured. Heck, they had a guy blow himself up and still be alive after.
I can't believe that RTD, the person who brought back Dr Who, the person that created the Sarah Jane Adventures because he loved Liz Sladen so much, would crap all over her memory with such a dismissive line about her and Tom Baker in what is generally rated as one of the best stories in Tom Baker's tenure. What a scumbag.
Agreed its amazing how a writer can come back and destroy his legacy! RTG acts like it's the 80's or something! No one cares if your gay or straight , if you're black or white just tell a good story!!!!
@@Irishrebel092 RTD did. The throwaway cultural appropriater line. I find it hysterical that for someone who wants a utopia he gets angry over people wearing clothes from another culture. By that logic I shouldn't speak English because that's offensive since it's not my first language which will then leave me out of a significant loop.
In Ecclestones last two episodes when the Doctor, Rose and Jack where trapped in reality game shows ie Big Brother. They met a woman, and asked, "don't the controllers know what is happening in the shows". The woman answers "the masters don't watch the shows" This is BBC and Disney.
"I don't want people to associate disabled people as evil!" "I don't want people to play with the sonic screwdriver like a gun!" "HERES A 13 YEAR OLDD MOBILITY SEGWAY WITH MOUNTED MACHINE GUNS!!!!!!!!!!"
Disabled people are not to be perceived as evil or dangerous or scary, so we have disabled peoole shooting out of wheelchairs and Segway and not yet shooting out of their walker Gatlin gun combination equipment.

all of this sounds stupid. admitted the earlier stories at least add up to something, but they are all equally poor IMO. They all stem from never understanding what the Doctor was actually about
He thought bringing back Sutekh will appeal to the old fans. The same old fans he literally told can leave and not watch the show? That's a great strategy.
Sutek traveled in/on the Tardis since the 70s and what in all that time didn't care to come out until now, but, the one question he must know is "Who is Ruby's mum?". The God of Death is now the God of Gossip.

Actually if the bi-generation effect copied everything then Sutekh is still out there with Tennant-14 and every other potential Doctor incarnation since it's been riding along since Baker, got split off in The Five Doctors when they all went their separate ways at the end so it's been there since the beginning INCLUDING Hartnell/Hurndall-1 whch means it's also overlapped itself... But it's also been around when the universe has been destoyed TWICE, once by Smith-13 when the TARDIS exploded and with Tennant-10 when the Daleks made the Crucible to re-write the universe in their own image (which would've been a lot better). Not to mention when TARDIS was pushed out by House(?) took over in that pocket-universe with all the dead TARDIS that it had lured in to consume she never mentioned feeling a presense then either.
He got lost in the Tardis wardrobe section, developed an unhealthy obsession with shoes, and went completely mad. It happens. There are probably quite a few people and otherworldly beings lost in that time machine.
@@philnewton-england7795 Hey in fairness, I actually think the Ruby actor is pretty good and she is REALLY doing her best, you can tell she is, she's trying so hard. It's just that the material given to her is absolute trash... She did her best but she got nothing to work with... And her solo episode was the best episode because she's a way better actress than Cutie so... yeah.
The TARDIS has advanced sensors that can detect anything, yet somehow it missed an invisible being hanging onto it for billions of years? That means Sutekh would be everywhere, since the TARDIS rebooted the entire universe in "Rhe Big Bang." What a colossal joke this show has become.
Sutekh deserved a better comeback story. He deserved a better Doctor. Sutekh should have fought against Peter Capaldi's Doctor. Sutekh was the only reason why I tuned in because he was an awesome villain in "Pyramids of Mars" and I was sick of endless appearances by the Daleks or the Master. True to form, wack-tivist RTD wrote Sutekh's return the way Disney hacks wrote Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi - formerly cool characters made to look like idiots.
with the way Sutekh looks and the way peter capaldi was as a doctor it would've had Peter playing Metallica like Eddie in Stranger Things Season 4 or something, idk why but i see that happening for some reason
I'm actually GLAD this story sucked because I just want to draw a line and write off the entire last few years of the show as non-canon. A good episode would jeopardise that.
Incredible how not one member of senior staff thought of this: Not the rich baby in the segway, not the campy robot, not the 15-year-old drag queen, not the almost-silent box-ticking diverse soldier, and not the middle-class menopausal lady they put in charge of the tough decisions. Did I miss anyone out? No, the episode makes clear that UNIT is run by 3 people, a baby and a robot.

I can't believe the legendary Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith, were referred to as people who "just travelled in the TARDIS"! This is the same Sarah Jane Smith, who RTD brought back in Series 2, for an emotional reunion, and who went on to star in her own TV series! 😠
I used to think it was sad that so many Doctor Who actors had died relatively young, but now I think that they were being spared. It's going to be hard to make a living on convention money, these days.
A standing ovation for RTD 👏. You have produced, hands down, the single worst season of Doctor Who ever created. You will go down in history as the man (sorry person) who killed Doctor Who by turning it into a gay horror show.
Oh RTDs got NPD and never got over whovians getting bored with his x files with a who twist torchwood.. To boot everything RTD does is just rip off new adventures, BBC who and now faction paradox
The 4th Doctor didn't send Sutekh into the time vortex. Sutekh was traveling down a spatial corridor from Mars to Earth, and the Doctor used some equipment from the TARDIS to lengthen the corridor so that Sutekh would die of old age before he got to the end of it.
@@lgoamity Yes, that's right! I haven't seen Pyramids of Mars in probably 40 years is my excuse. RTD should have watched it before writing that stuff, but I bet he just skimmed the wiki entry on Sutekh
Shhh, RTD knows that but hopes that the modern audience don't. Also Sutekh's main party piece in the Pyramids of mars is looking at people, his eyes flash, and they DIE on the spot. Which eh could have done any time Ncutti is standing in the TARDIS door gloating at him. Or better yet, as he is being dragged across the room he just looks at the Doctor and says "My mind is in yours" Just like he did with the 4th Doctor, and Ncutti is instantly turned into a meat puppet. I like how the people that always talk about unity and diversity are the ones that are most self-righteous and self interested in their own life. I almost never see these people talk about giving back to other people being selfless or caring about someone other than themselves…
Truth, they only talk about it when it's in the context of it benefits them, or they are clearly virtue signaling. "Look at me I'm such a good person." And they always hate the working class, people who does work, people who are actually more talented and capable than them, of any skin color they hate people with more potential than themselves so they have to stomp them down. I even talked to a black guy once who told me. "Oh I got this job real easy, I checked all the diversity boxes just fine, but then they figured out I checked the wrong box too... I'm very competent and they hated it so they fired me." .... I actually believed him when he said it, also when he was so honest about how he got the job. I have always had the strongest impression that they have loved Who for its essential Britishness, and even the most diehard *actual* fan can see this is "Disney Who". The fact that RTD wrote this for American markets and dumbed it right down to this degree shows more about his personal views of Americans than actual reality. Soooo.....everyone on earth died, including David Tennant's Doctor? When he's brought back to life does that fire the regeneration process, and if so is there another split Doctor on earth now? And what happened to D.T's TARDIS? Jeebus. ...
When I first theorised Sutekh returning (yes it was that easy to guess!), I thought 'great, finally a chance for this series to do well' but the truth of the matter is that they BUTCHERED him! That final episode basically destroyed EVERYTHING left of the Dr Who canon by somehow suggesting Sutekh was MAGICALLY on top of the TARDIS _the entire_ time - yes even when the Daleks and other big threats and unique stuff happening, Sutekh didnt pop out to finally kill the Doctor or aid the baddies. SO DUMB! And Susan Twist is nobody! And Ruby is just a 'normal' girl? But then how does she see the snowing thing? Why would Sutekh be interested in her and not Clara Oswald for example?
Honestly, the answer is easy. Like so many other franchises the writers want to use magic as the answer. They don't want to put effort in being consistent or logical, so they just make stuff up. Any inconsistencies can be waved away as "because magic. Why Stekh didn't acted before, because magic. Why Susan have snow powers, because magic.
@@juan0808 That is the worst thing about incompetent/lazy people writing fantasy or scifi. They think that, because the rules aren't the same as reality, there are no rules. But it doesn't work that way. In order for a scifi or fantasy story to be good, there have to be rules. The difference is that you write the rules and then you have to stick to them. In this case, there were rules already in place and RTD decided to break those rules, thinking that it didn't matter, but for a Doctor Who story to be good, it can't break the rules in the past. The only real exception I can think of off the top of my head is the sonic screwdriver which became a bit overpowered. However, even there, there is one rule. It doesn't work on wood. That stays consistent for whatever reason.
Personally I would've had the Trickster be the shadowy figure that dropped Ruby off at the church. The trickster lives in a plane the tardis never visited, so the trickster is safe and because he's the parent of Ruby. The dust would never killed her, and the reason why that moment is so important and keeps changing is because that's what the trickster does. They set up that moment to be a choice that the doctor would have to make. The doctors choice with ruby , and the reason why the Trickster did this in the first place. Is because when Sutekh brought death to existence, then there was no more chaos.
Amazing. They really did the "Oh, you're special because we believed in you! All the other people across history that are insignificant? Nobody has ever believed in them enough. Not cult leaders, or kings, or loved ones. Nobody cared about anyone the way you were mildly interested in your mom's backstory!" I really hoped we were past that shitty ass trope.
Just imagine, someday an extraterrestrial invasion fleet will be heading towards Earth, intercept these Doctor Who episodes - and call the whole thing off.
Thanks Disparu, I've loved your reviews have kept me sane during this season of Who. The "they're all dead" from Red Dwarf was exactly what I thought of! I appreciate all your hard work on these videos.
Problems with ruby’s mom being normal average person: - Snow and music? - What did maestro mean when he said there was something wrong with her? - Why was the mom “beyond a glitch and shadowed” - Why did the memory of the doctor regarding the mom change? - The time window required the power of Europe to power up and was broken, it turned on magically when ruby walked in and then stayed on throughout the whole episode?!?!! - Why was the time window answering the questions? General plot holes: - why did the doctor need to get a spoon when the planets were left intact in 2046 there was load of metal just no people? - so the doctors entire plan was based on the tardis not being moved/rotated? - if the doctor,Mel and Ruby were the last people alive in the universe why did sutekh care about the mom if she was already dead? - if a new Susan is created 73 yards away from tardis when the doctor lands somewhere then how can the mom of a character be a Susan?!?! - how does death to death bring life? Doesn’t really make much sense. - why was that random woman alive? Why did the doctor land there? These are some I noticed after first watching, if I rewatch I’d probably find a few more. Also, Just rembered didn’t in boom the ambulance was unable to say who the mother was? Wouldn’t it know cuz of the dna test??? Might need to rewatch boom.
Also on the “bringing death to death brings life” shite, how come everybody is coming back to life while Sutekh is being dragged through the time vortex, and is still very much alive!
Good summary! I too wrote my own list of problems with the episode, and it has many different points to both you and the video. Basically, every single line of this hour-long episode is a problem. It's one big steaming pile.

The world record is 5. Mother and child lived. Lina Medina. There. That is a thing you know now.
And everyone was horrified that her father would do that to her. Funny how you left that part out. Also funny how you think that means anything at all to what op was saying. Your hard drives need to be checked.
Oh they did not try to make the Doctor leaving Susan into a horrible thing that he shouldn't have done. Context is very important on that one. He left her behind because she fell in love with a man, and The Doctor knew that she wouldn't be able to bring herself to leave him in order to be with the man she loved. The Doctor left her behind so she could live a happy life with him, and probably also to help humanity rebuild, after the Dalek occupation of Earth was thwarted. it probably hurt him way more than her to do that, but he knew it was what was best for Susan. Also, he promised that one day he would come back and see her. The Doctor is being chastised by RTD for the crime of wanting to give his granddaughter the chance to have a family of her own, and live a normal life.
To be fair: a) he's been busy b) the first Doctor and Susan met again in "The Five Doctors". And then she got to meet the Fifth Doctor. c) according to the Audios, the Eighth Doctor did indeed go back to see her. But I'm super sure facts just get in RTD's and the modern fans's way.
Reminds me of The Doctor Dances, talking to the doctor in the hospital “When this war (WWII) began, I was a father and a grandfather. Now, I am neither, but I am still a doctor.” At the time, I didn’t know any Classic Who, so I didn’t know about Susan, but the power of that scene was that you KNEW the 9th Doctor was connecting with him on a visceral level and therefore he must have lost both children and grandchildren in the Time War (I’m honestly still unclear if Susan lived out her life(s) with her husband on Earth or if she joined Gallifrey in the Time War). Mind you, it reminds me because the writing used to be GOOD and it used to complement what came before, and now it’s just… whatever the hell this is. Before, you felt that the Doctor was running away from past mistakes because, like all creatures in this fallen universe, he is fallible, but as a “higher being” his mistakes have vastly greater consequences. Now, you feel like the writers are bashing the character for perceived character flaws before *they* - perfect beings that they are - controlled him. It’s enough to make me yack up my oatmeal.
@@StarWarsomania Yes I loved that scene! I'm not very familiar with the Big Finish audiobooks, or other spin off stuff, but I always took that scene to mean that she had been killed as a result of the Time War. She may not have wanted to join up with Gallifrey, but I could easily see a scenario where the Daleks found out that The Doctor's granddaughter was on Earth, and sent a force out to exterminate her, as a way to hurt The Doctor. Maybe that was part of what pushed him to join in the war in the first place.
@@StarWarsomania his claim to being a father is tenuous, unless you count Jenny. In the post-classic books the Time Lords were sterile and instituted regeneration to continue the species until they built machines to remix base genetics to grow new Gallifreyans. And Susan was originally in pre-Time Lord history, the Hand of Omega kicked the TARDIS into Gallifrey's forbidden past for the Doctor to find Susan. But now, just like Star Wars with Disney, they threw out the books until they needed to cherry pick something decent to resurrect, steal and degrade like Thrawn. The book depicting all that history is called "Lungbarrow".
Every single reddit fan theory about any of this season is better than what we got. The only way to write this bad is on purpose or have the IQ of an ant. I thought Lost had the worse tv show ending ever, I now stand corrected...
Yep, the more I learn about new shows, I wanna try to rewatch the old ones. especially since I only watched it as little kid. Red Dwarf sure might have aged no that well, but it still seems better than whatever we have now.
OK, but we have to admit that unit just breaking out the firearms and shooting at the space aliens is kind of a meme. I remember the Easter special, where the look of just joy and rapture on the face of one of the unit soldiers when he said bullets work on them, it was it was fun.
They did a much better job with much less money. Chances are if the had a lot more money it might not have been as great as it was because they wouldn'0t have thought things through as much
Hopefully it won’t matter because this will be the last episode of Doctor Who for a decade or two. As usual, I’m sure this show will disappoint me on this point like it’s been doing for a few years now.
YES I was thinking amount the same thing, Rose giving life back to Jack had MEANING and was something serious, but even apart from this they are ripping off SO MANY thing from Ecclestone's series it's genuinely infuriating
@@EyeOfMagnus4E201 Sadly, "Season 2" has already been filmed and is in post-production. It's happening - RTD and Gatwa once again, the nightmare continues. I've only really been watching this latest season "just to see how bad it can get", but after this, I don't think I can go any further. This was the least woke of the episodes and still somehow the most offensive to my intelligence.
RTD: So we changed the sonic because it shouldn't look like a gun, not a good thing to market to kids. ALSO RTD: Has 13 year old kid with machine gun in wheelchair, blasting away.
Remember RTD had 13's costume regenerate to 14's costume because he didn't want the Doctor in "drag" , then hired a Drag Queen and put the doctor in a skirt.
Even dumber, it was his revival series that made th Sonic Screwdriver to be used in this way. The Classic Series the Screwdriver mainly was used for opening locks or panels, occasionally to use a sonic pulse to set of a mine or something (and it had to be done in a very specific way). RTD and co started useing it as a cure all for every problem
That leash time vortex stretch literally leaves me speechless. Dr. Who has been pretty awful for years but this is literally mind numbingly stupid. I was operating under the impression that RTD was at least a competent writer, just hopelessly lost to activism, but that leash BS has shattered that illusion for me.
Did Sutekh have a Rubik's Cube. He must have been bored shitless hanging around all those years. I wonder if he killed random stuff on the way just to keep his hand in?
How do you think he reached his ultimate evolution? Only someone who's mastered the 100x100x100 cube can reach such an enlightened state that he can't recognize an average teenager.
For the record, Sutekh wasn't the god of death, that was Anubis. As was the jackal's head. Sutekh also wasn't the god of dust, that was his father Geb.
The reveal of Ruby's mother confirms what I've suspected all along - RTD has only returned to Doctor Who to troll the fans. I don't know if he's been taking flack over the years, but he's clearly bitter to the point of using the show he supposedly loves to get back at the fans. Even putting aside all the identity politics which is typical BBC/Disney (although Moffat's episode seemed able to avoid it), we have: 1. You felt Ruby's mother was special? Ah! You're seeing patterns that aren't there! Typical fanboy! 2. You expect the Doctor to be asexual? Ah! Forget it! He's actually a predator! 3. You want explanations for 73 Yards, Ruby's snow and how Sutekh could hide in the TARDIS even when it's been blown up? Hahaha! 4. Did I saying this would be the biggest and best finale ever? Ah! I meant to say I'm going to destroy a classic character by making it look like a CGI dog and kill it by dragging it on it's lead, and then have 15 minutes of Eastenders, which is the show I REALLY love! 5. You didn't notice there weren't any black characters in Dot and Bubble? Ah! You're racist!! Hahahaha! 6. You want sci-fi in your sci-fi show? Ah! How about musical numbers, dance routines and Bridgerton! Hahaha! 7. You thought the best episodes of my previous run where written by other writers? Ah! Well I'm writing them all now! (except for allowing my mate Moffat to write a couple - oh, and to force those Marvel writers who didn't make their show gay enough to make amends as a sort of grovelling apology to me personally!). Hahaha! 8. You want scary monsters? Hahahaha! Grow up - have a literal boogeyman you bunch of space babies! Lol! 9. Did you say Davros was one of the few classic villains that Nu Who has done justice to? Ha! Hold my beer! 10. You want to know who the Anita Dobson character is? Ah! I'm going to make you wait at least a full year, and then it still won't make any sense that she's lived next to Ruby all this time! HAHAHAHAHA!
Admittedly, this has been a problem with Doctor Who for a long time, and is especially pronounced for Nu Who. I remember Eccleston accidentally unleashing a gateway that flooded Earth with a battalion of Daleks because he thought it was a signal from Gallifrey, but later in the same 45 minute episode managed to pull some sonic screwdriver shenanigans to suck every Dalek back in the gateway with minimal human casualties. There's no point in most Nu Who storylines to care about major events and setpieces because they are just... ludicrous and no matter how high the stakes were, they were overcome with ridiculous ease and with little cost. Compared to some of the major events from classic Doctor Who. The Hartnell era 12 episode epic "The Dalek Master Plan" (13 if you count "Mission to the Unknown", although 2 episodes basically don't relate to anything because of the Christmas lead up and 2 involve a rematch with the Meddling Monk) is one of the biggest examples of where the stakes are high and, although the Doctor triumphs, the price of victory is not cheap. The War Games (Patrick Troughton's finale) is also interesting because it's another example of the Doctor facing a renegade Time Lord, except the renegade has aligned himself with Steve Jobs and ultimately the Doctor realises that Time Lord intervention is required, knowing full well that the Time Lords view him as a renegade.
That was a plot point in the last grwat time war, butheres the thing, there it was a bad thing, it was an indication that TIME ITSELF was being so distorted by these two godly factions that death became just a word, people would die, then come back only to die right after and rinse and repeat, but here? This is just lame and stupid
I've played with it, and Chat GTP really does come up with plots like this; the vague mystery, the world ending villain with no real explanation, no real direction. I wouldn't be surprised.
@@BackUp-nx2de I am feeding my collection of classic and Eighth Doctor ebooks into a local GPT. It's gonna take absolute days, it has so far and it's not a third finished. ... of course, I asked the silly thing BEFORE I started reading in the books, "describe the Candy monster from the seventh Doctor episode" and it described him as a Hobbit, so.
No one seems to mention how the "Doctor" uses his sonic screwdriver about 5 times in the whole series (If that). He also does not use his intelligence to overcome any issues. He seems incompetent and only the people around him make a "difference".
Well, he did change a CRT TV from the 90s into a Tablet with the Sonic Screwdriver. Somehow. Just Consume Product, don't ask questions. The incredible part is that TV's were box shaped for a reason, i.e. they needed a cone-shaped screen to work. The artifice was making the Cone-Shape look less odd. If you look at the 2005 iMac 'teardrop' shape, that's functionally why. Putting an iPod inside a shoe is possible, but you'd have to functionally assert a reason for it. When they changed from CRT to LCD, suddenly you could get flat-screen devices. The Cathode ray relies on a cone-shaped projection to shoot electrons at a screen/material layer, using a controlled magnetic coil to fire in scanned lines. How this works when you flatten the process is infinitely odd, because it still needs a reflector or coil to aim the beam(s). It's a vastly different kind of technology to the LCD or matrix screen, which has a field of crystals that change state based on voltage. I sort of get what they're trying to achieve, but it's a bizarre method to attach a Tablet to a computer when you could just have WiFi and make it work. 2046 and 2026, most tech should work. Just like 2006 and 2026. You can't really guarantee an iPhone 6 will work, unless they make 5/6/7G backward compatible, or they make concessions for older devices. IDK.
I think that's the point. How do you destroy a culture? First you destroy their heroes. When kids have no role models to learn from they become weak and easy to manipulate.
A character, or characters, are only as intelligent as the people writing them. As for the magic wand, I mean, sonic screwdriver, it's SERIOUSLY OVERUSED. Just look at any promo poster or cover of Dr Who since Harry Potter, think about John Hurt's War Doctor giving shit to the knob-end doctors brandishing it like it's a weapon ("It's a screwdriver, what are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them???"). Ffs. Patrick Troughton, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and even Paul McGann use the sonic SPARINGLY. The only other Doctor that used it quite often was Jon Pertwee and even then it wasn't EVERY EPISODE.

The twist is; there is no twist. It’s not clever, it’s just wasting time on a pointless mystery, when we could be developing the character in the present.
22:01 Hey, when this was happening, Sutek would have run into Rose when she was fully empowered by the Time Vortex, when she was all powerful and sprinkled hints and help across all time and space anywhere the Tardis ever existed for the Doctor...he should be in the place beyond time she sent the Dalek army to to save the Doctor and Captain Jack...
Plot twist if a) RTD had a brain and b) UNIT scientific advisors had a lifespan of more than two episodes: the kid is funnelling off technology and money to become the next insanely powered supervillain. ... I just want to know where the anti-TARDIS forcefield of the archives and the Time Window CAME from. Silly me, thinking Davies had a complete enough worldview to not ask such questions.
"You want a father? I'll put all the names in this hat..." On serious note, if she ran DNA test father's name would appear just the same as mother's. So she probably knows who her father is. Just won't mention him ever again. Like Amandla Stenberg.
I watched the Hartnell Doctor 1st run and 1st hand (yeah, I'm that old), and every season that followed...until the end of Capaldi's run. The disrespect they are showing the show and the canon makes one weep.
I'm that old too. It seems there are no consequences anymore. They don't care how much money they spend, or how many people watch. It's just a propaganda machine that is a public service they are happy to produce.
@@stevenedwards8353 I have some flashes of the Hartnell years, but there was one Troughton episode when two guys opened their mouths and released some sort of gas - I know it sounds stupid - but the way it was done scared little me behind the sofa. Wish I could go back and pay waay closer attention. I've re-seen most all of it that still is.
I had a laugh while noticing the BBC had been showing clips from Pyramids of Mars lately to 'hype people up' for Empire of Death. I was like, not probably something you wanna be doing, reminding viewers that there's a better older episode they could be watching or re-watching instead, lol
So.... Ruby wants to find her mother.... Life is wiped out everywhere but somehow her mother records her DNA (somehow) in 2046. They get the name / identify of the woman. Then they reminisce about her. She is still alive....... go find her. Also...Dr. the reverse of the reverse is true..... Death deleting Death brings Life....... that cannot die.
I just realized: Did Russel steal the idea of going back in time to meet the mother who left the protagonist at an orphanage from “meet the Robinsons”? Because it’s almost the same: the mother is in a hooded cloak and the time traveler rings the bell, because he scares of the mother before she can. The only difference is, that in meet the Robinsons it’s raining instead of snowing which makes it way less likely that the infant would have frozen to death
"We all have our time-machines, don't we? Those that take us back are memories...and those that carry us forward...are dreams." - much better quote from a much better time-machine story.
10:20 compare this "remembering the TARDIS back into existence" to Amy Pond on her wedding day. "Raggedy man, I remember you! And you are LATE FOR MY WEDDING! Something old, something new, something borrowed,....something BLUE"
Have to say with Matt Smiths first season. Lots of stuff didn't make technical sense. I mean Rory dying... and then he was a mechanical centurian somehow... And then the Doctor Rebooted the entire universe... Somehow... and Rory is back to life and a normal human... Somehow... And Amy and Rory now remembers a timeline that no longer exists cause it was rebooted... Somehow. This all technically doesn't make sense. BUT! The attachment to the characters was GREAT! The emotional impact, the emotional satisfaction was absolutely one hundred percent there. And you can get away with this, if you have the emotional satisfaction. Which Matt Smith season 1 DID. And this obviously did not... I cared about Amy, I cared about Rory, I cared about the Doctor. I was attached to the Doctors' willpower, and how he had to stand up to fix this not showing any fear or doubt. To Rory's loyalty that never faltered and I got to see it. To Amy's perseverance that she would not give up. We SAW them all being exceptional and acting it, so I could be impressed by them, feel attached, and be happy when they got a happy ending! They EARNED it and my emotional satisfaction!
That is pretty much how it works. I found Amy, Rory and River extremely dislikable and so I forgave nothing. Which isn’t saying that I thought the actors were bad at their jobs, because they were all doing a good job of playing what the scripts asked for Moffat was a messy writer so he absolutely relies on fans liking his lead characters.

The weirdest thing about all the shows going woke is the timing. This is why people believe there are higher ups giving the government and entertainment industry their marching orders. It’s like someone flipped a switch and this is our life now. It’s interesting to think about. How is western culture made? Is it top down or bottom up?
in the 1970's in the uk tv programs like "love thy neighbour" were created to make people more accepting of immigrants. the white man was shown to be a bigot and the black man to be reasonable and good company. this is just the current year ham fisted attempt.
It seems life after 2015 (or perhaps 2019) the 🌎 REALLY entered a pervasive woke era @an aggresive pace. Academia, politics, policies, social media censorship, rising crime, gov't going after farmers, increase in mental illness, openly gr***ing children, intense gaslighting by media, exposure of corruption. It's like forces of darkness decided to come out from the sewers & let everyone in the daytime know that they've always been the ones behind the scenes.
Consider how similar Millie and Jenna look that would have been a brilliant idea - but I'd rather Clara not be connected to this. Bad enough they dragged Mel and Sarah Jane into this.

Wasn't the lamp post with the street sign also behind the TARDIS at the time in the Window? And previously there wasn't any turning and naming, so what the?
I think what I hate most is that any other modern doctor, ANY OTHER MODERN DOCTOR, would've been so incredibly angry and revengeful if earth or one of their companions died. And here's 15, crying, screaming, defeated. He doesn't do anything. He's just sad, a poor victim all the time. Like, dude! Where is the anger?! Where is the action!?
To summarize the season RTD: "OOOOH Look at this Mystery box! It has Ruby's mother inside isn't it so amazing?!" Audience: "K..." RTD: "... but BUT that's not all! It can make it snow and DODGE THE GOD OF DEATH!" Audience: "Alright... so this must be important then?" RTD: *Proceeds to open box* "IT WAS NOTHING! Haha! Tricked you! It was only important because YOU made it important! HAHAHAHA" Audience: "... what?" The real twist is that RTD is just a brain damaged version of JJ Abrams. At least JJ remembered to PUT something in the box, even if it was stupid.
Remember Classic Who when UNIT was actually useful? Pepperidge Farm does. 11:36 How can he say that he remembers the first time he encountered the Monster of the Day, (sorry I can’t be half chaffed to look up the name) when he was the Fourth Doctor? If he and 14 split in two parts, why does he remember the memories of past regenerations? 🤦🏻♀️ They broke canon, only to bring it back, to break it all over again. 🤦🏻♀️🙄 What *stupid* way to write a companion exit.
I had more fun watching your reviews than the actual show
can you say Ncutis name correctly?
I think Ncuti’s speech was the closest we got to Doctor (barely) but this should have been episode 1.

Thank you! Your reviews provide a LOT more entertainement than the actual series!!! But how you stomach it all...?
I like how Sutekh spends literally thousands of years waiting until a doctor arrives who so bad at his job that he thinks now let’s just try it 😅
And he's so bad at his job that he has now resurrected every foe and threat to existence that he has ever faced and killed back to life.
Yeah sounds right.

The Tardis scanners can analyze anything except the writers plot holes
Sutekh deserved a better comeback story. He deserved a better Doctor. Sutekh should have fought against Peter Capaldi's Doctor. Sutekh was the only reason why I tuned in because he was an awesome villain in "Pyramids of Mars" and I was sick of endless appearances by the Daleks or the Master. True to form, wack-tivist RTD wrote Sutekh's return the way Disney hacks wrote Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi - formerly cool characters made to look like idiots.
Lore-wise it makes more sense this way tho. By now he knows better then to fight a competent doctor again.
Read the Tenth Doctor Titan Comics for a significantly better Sutekh return plot.
with the way Sutekh looks and the way peter capaldi was as a doctor it would've had Peter playing Metallica like Eddie in Stranger Things Season 4 or something, idk why but i see that happening for some reason

The 4th Doctor didn't send Sutekh into the time vortex. Sutekh was traveling down a spatial corridor from Mars to Earth, and the Doctor used some equipment from the TARDIS to lengthen the corridor so that Sutekh would die of old age before he got to the end of it.

Also Sutekh's main party piece in the Pyramids of mars is looking at people, his eyes flash, and they DIE on the spot. Which eh could have done any time Ncutti is standing in the TARDIS door gloating at him.

Truth, they only talk about it when it's in the context of it benefits them, or they are clearly virtue signaling. "Look at me I'm such a good person."
And they always hate the working class, people who does work, people who are actually more talented and capable than them, of any skin color they hate people with more potential than themselves so they have to stomp them down.
I even talked to a black guy once who told me. "Oh I got this job real easy, I checked all the diversity boxes just fine, but then they figured out I checked the wrong box too... I'm very competent and they hated it so they fired me."

All the identity agendas aside, this was legitimately one of the worst episodes of anything I've ever seen.
@@juan0808 Agreed, and this is the laziest form of writing that there is.
Never mind. At least you still have the acolyte.
Amazing. They really did the "Oh, you're special because we believed in you! All the other people across history that are insignificant? Nobody has ever believed in them enough.
To be fair:
a) he's been busy
b) the first Doctor and Susan met again in "The Five Doctors".

OK, but we have to admit that unit just breaking out the firearms and shooting at the space aliens is kind of a meme.
I remember the Easter special, where the look of just joy and rapture on the face of one of the unit soldiers when he said bullets work on them, it was it was fun.
Just imagine the Tom Baker era of Doctor Who, with this budget! Tom Baker would have smashed it 💥
They did a much better job with much less money. Chances are if the had a lot more money it might not have been as great as it was because they wouldn'0t have thought things through as much
Are we going to address the fact that EVERY living thing is now immortal?
i like to believe they chose the futurama method of storing the "dead" where they keep the living heads in jars filled with sedating chemicals.
The writers never even thought of that and no one will ever mention it again
Not to mention two 15 year olds having a kid
@@sayLeotardbutsayitChinese This is just the world he sees as normal, I guess.
@sayLeotardbutsayitChinese Love has no age don't you know?
For someone so old you would think the doctor would be able to control his emotions especially for trivial things we saw this season
Now we know how many regenerations it takes for senility to set in?
That leash time vortex stretch literally leaves me speechless. Dr. Who has been pretty awful for years but this is literally mind numbingly stupid. I was operating under the impression that RTD was at least a competent writer, just hopelessly lost to activism, but that leash BS has shattered that illusion for me.
Did Sutekh have a Rubik's Cube. He must have been bored shitless hanging around all those years. I wonder if he killed random stuff on the way just to keep his hand in?
He probably just napped. He had every opportunity to screw the Doctor but just kind of didn’t bother.
How do you think he reached his ultimate evolution?
Only someone who's mastered the 100x100x100 cube can reach such an enlightened state that he can't recognize an average teenager.
He was easily yanked by Ncuti becuse he skipped leg day since the 70's
For the record, Sutekh wasn't the god of death, that was Anubis. As was the jackal's head. Sutekh also wasn't the god of dust, that was his father Geb.
@troffle In the case of RTD's mess I don't think it really matters TBH. Appreciate the clarification though.
The reveal of Ruby's mother confirms what I've suspected all along - RTD has only returned to Doctor Who to troll the fans. I don't know if he's been taking flack over the years, but he's clearly bitter to the point of using the show he supposedly loves to get back at the fans. Even putting aside all the identity politics which is typical BBC/Disney (although Moffat's episode seemed able to avoid it), we have:
HAHAHAHAHA!
@@hicmad Like 15 years? 150?
I definitely think there’s some truth in this. He hates the long term and loyal fans that’s for sure.
Nobody stays dead any more in Doctor Who. So, there are no emotional stakes.
No one can even die in the Whoniverse to begin with.
Every living thing is now immortal...The Dr. killed death. Nothing can ever die again.
That's why them destroying the Donna arc in the Christmas special finally broke the show for me.
@@DeadlyPlatypus He also killed morality.
That was a plot point in the last grwat time war, butheres the thing, there it was a bad thing, it was an indication that TIME ITSELF was being so distorted by these two godly factions that death became just a word, people would die, then come back only to die right after and rinse and repeat, but here? This is just lame and stupid
In space, nobody can hear you scream.
Ncuti Gatwa: Hold my Kleenex.
Did not expect you here... but then everyone is just a human.
Hopefully we won't need World of Batshit for what happened here.
In space, there's no air to carry billowing dust clouds to the stars.
I swear RTD just used ChatGPT to write this series
IDK.
@@Toliman. What you wrote here is 100% more intelligent than anything this "Doctor" has done or said in all these episodes.
@@PhialSubstance Yes, but WHAT'S THE POINT? What is the POINT of doing a destruction this hideous and miserable?
Fun fact: apparently; RTD took inspiration from The Last Jedi for the reveal of Ruby's parents.
That makes way too much sense

The Moment would also have known about Sutehk, since it could literally reach through the Time Lock of the Time War to any point in time.
Remember, child labor is fine as long as they've got genius level intellect that we can use.
Plot twist if a) RTD had a brain and b) UNIT scientific advisors had a lifespan of more than two episodes: the kid is funnelling off technology and money to become the next insanely powered supervillain.

Thats amazing! Did you watch and remember some of the episodes that are now essentially lost to time?
@@stevenedwards8353 I have some flashes of the Hartnell years, but there was one Troughton episode when two guys opened their mouths and released some sort of gas - I know it sounds stupid - but the way it was done scared little me behind the sofa. Pat Troughton for me. Now, I know how Star Wars fans feel after Chibnall and this
It’s amazing how one clip on the show can make me say “Gosh, Pyramids of Mars was a good episode. I think I’ll go watch that one again.”
I just realized:
Did Russel steal the idea of going back in time to meet the mother who left the protagonist at an orphanage from “meet the Robinsons”?
Because it’s almost the same: the mother is in a hooded cloak and the time traveler rings the bell, because he scares of the mother before she can. The only difference is, that in meet the Robinsons it’s raining instead of snowing which makes it way less likely that the infant would have frozen to death

You care about the characters so much that you almost don't care that it doesn't make much sense
That is pretty much how it works.
I found Amy, Rory and River extremely dislikable and so I forgave nothing. Which isn’t saying that I thought the actors were bad at their jobs, because they were all doing a good job of playing what the scripts asked for
Moffat was a messy writer so he absolutely relies on fans liking his lead characters.

Why didn't they make Clara " The impossible girl" be her mother ? Make sense as she travelled with every Dr. Manipulating all their stories.
