How excited I was to see your video pop up about the strap cutter. Even though it was two years ago it was very good. You have gone from the scene and I miss your videos. I pray that you are in good health. God bless.
Harry i have been using that strap cutter for over 35 years and i love it i learned that trick many years ago and it was the best trick i ever learned. Thank you for sharing it with others.
I say a great tool makes the job a lot easier, and does a great job,and great video with great description of the tool, and how it’s used, and tips for when used, and how the tool is very useful, keep more videos coming as they can help many people with their crafting, with another great tool to use
Well Harry. I went and did it made belt and it turned out great after watching your video's it's hard to make a mistake with all the advice you gave . The only thing different is I did not use rivets I just used a double saddle stitch to secure the buckle. After playing around with knife sheaths and some other odds and ends rivets seem to almost always present problems over time . this belt will be used for hunting fishing and camping . I also made it 10 inches longer than need be so it can be worn in winter outside of a jacket . Now my delima is how to secure that large flap securely when not wearing a large coat . Thanks for all the great advice it could not have been done properly with out your help. Now I need to make 2 molded pouches for the back of the belt . Damn almost for got the mistake I made in creasing used a propane torch to heat the creaser I did think of the extreme heat it would generate kept the the creaser 10 inches away and you guessed it it melted like it was bade out of solder it was aTandy so yesterday I ordered a CS Osborne also dug out my alcohol stove from the camping gear so every one can have a good laugh. Happy trails
Hi Harry, I have been known to strop my strap cutter blades. They will last a lot longer in you do that. It's a great tool. Thanks for sharing your tips. Sandy
Thank you Very much. I found a scrap cutter in my shop, while I was looking threw some things a friend gave me. I would like to dabble in some leather work, but you now how that goes $. $$ lol Well thanks again and GOD Bless😇😁
Hi Harry. Thanks for another great video. I have had mine for more than 20 years now, and still have the instruction leaflet. The tips on this are slightly different to yours. I can email the picture of the leaflet if you would like?
Hi thanks so much - I have been looking everywhere for tips and there are none! I make dog leads/collars and have started to find my strap cutter wavers so I will get it moving away from the straight edge and then I am left with a strap that goes thick and thin as you go down. Any advice how to stop this? My leather is about 2.5-3.5mm thick. Hope you can help thank you
Hi I find the Original Leather Strap Cutter company's wooden strap cutter the best...I have others...they turn up on EBay from time to time. Even pressure in use helps, a gentle push into the leather edge on...keeping the pressure centred inline with the blade.
In keeping with Martin C. regarding business start up I would suggest anecdotes and tips in general keep with the topic which is to me leather. For me thoughts of pokers take me away from leather and while off topic anecdotes may allow for variety the main topic for me is again leather. Otherwise I’m very pleased to be able to watch your varied videos.”
Hi Harry, thanks for this. I have bought one of these, but unfortunately the leather I use is relatively thin and floppy so not great. Any ideas for cutters straight straps other than just cutting down with a ruler and knife or roller blade? Two straps never end up the same and I have to cut bits off and makes a right mess! I make tote bags so I need it to be perfect ;) Many thanks, have a great Sunday.
Hi Paula...I think you need a lace cutter...the multi bladed type that the likes of Tandy sell to cut several strips of lace at once. You would need to remove most of the blades so you cut one very wide lace...i.e. handle.
@@harryrogers hello, sorry if I didn't say 'thank you' for that! Hope you and your family are well. I'm English but live in France and have been on lock down for 2 weeks already..
Hello there! Thanks for the video...i am wondering what would be the minimum thickness that we can cut by that strap cutter...by the way i won't cut something heavy like u cutted...on the contrary it ll be very light leather...wht would u say in mm
Hi it really depends on the firmness of the leather..it fits very firm so you can feed it through then you could cut 1mm thickleather, but if it collapses at the blade because it is soft like a lot of thin leathers then it will not work.
@@harryrogers hello Harry. What i want to do is to cut very slim leather...2 mm thick...i want it to be just like a 2mm rope...so then i can make bracelet...but ofcourse the leather that i cut will be 1-2 mm max. thickness as well...do u think i need to buy table top lace cutter or australian strander or strap cutter?
What type of leather do you use for your straps and belts? I've been trying to figure that out and have tried natural veg bends and latigo and it just isn't quite what I'm looking for...
please could you tell me where you got "the original strap cutter " in the uk. I cant find anyone who stocks that brand in the uk and have heard it's much better than the chinese versions.
I've seen this exact strap cutter for $26.usd in California,USA..in a leather shop a day ago..I'm sure if you go on Google you could locate one..but beware of the 99% of them available are cheap Chinese knockoffs..the knockoffs are mostly 1/2 the price..but loosen up mid cut making straps wider then the settings..I hear good things about a different style made of metal that has more less a pistol grip handle and a exposed blade..it could be dangerous to use though..
Been using it 4 years, NEVER realized about peace of paper great idea, I found a long time ago a holder 4 leather when using said tool, the harder U pull on it the titer it holds easier 2 start and finish, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Great tips! Also, when cutting from a very narrow piece, it can be quite difficult to control, so I clamp the handle in a vice and guide the leather through with two hands for better control. Cheers!
Thank you Harry. You are a very good teacher. Very clear instructions.
The only video i see to how to make cutter easy thank you senior man

Hello Harry. Where do you get the replacement blades. All I can find are blades that stick out about 10mm each side. Really dangerous

Would you replace after cutting up one hide or after a few hides?
Great tips, well done!
Hi i need two of them?
Can this be used on soft hides ?
Hi its not very easy on soft leather, so a Dafa type knife might be better.
Can you advise where to buy replacement blades please? Thanks
I got mine from EBay China.
Nice video harry very informative many thanks for sharing
I have a Tandy strap cutter which is a bit junky. Where can I get one like yours?
I got this some years ago, so I am not sure...it's an original The Strap Cutter Company one.
Thanks for the video Harry.
Can it cut only leather? Or can you cut other things.?
Hi Belinda...It's a blade in a frame so yes I guess it can cut something with a degree of rigidity like leather.
