- Hi everyone,
Today I want to show you how to make round leather lace without any specific tool. I am going to use just 2 simple nails, piece of wood and blade, thats all what we need. It is easy just you need to have some practices. It is also possible to improve this technic by adding something to keep the knife stable. I hope you will like it, and you will use it in your projects
Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed. If you have any question please ask in the comments. See you in the next video.
Herkese Merhaba.
Could I recommend another way, if you cut the lace just like you did, or any other way you like. To round the lace either wet like you did or slick with water and saddle soap, next you need a piece of 1cm thick wood or board with a hole drilled through it. You then take one end of your lace and cut it to a point then feed it through the hole in the wood then you just pull the lace through the hole. It usually takes a couple of times through the hole, but it does leave it very round. Hope that helps
Tank you for the good idea. Will try it for sure
@@samuelsimard1717 in case you are interested, what I have is a piece of plywood with a variety of hole diameters. That way you just use the hole that is the correct size. It also helps to use some sand paper to smooth the edges of the holes if the edges are too sharp it can roughen you leather strips. Hope this helps
@@samuelsimard1717 Thank you for the idea, I think that would be better.
What is the thickness of leather that you use to make your cording?
@@Gregorio621 it depends what thickness cord you want, I use between 8 and 10 oz you could probably go as low as 5oz but I wouldn’t go thinner as the cord wouldn’t be very strong
Thank you so much.

I love this video because it shows how to make the cord without machines !! This is really handmade, how good it is to learn to do things only with the work of your hands and help yourself with elements that are easy to find in your environment !! Please keep making these videos so useful and with beautiful results, you are a very special artist . Thank you
How long to soak the leather in water? Is it plain water or something must be added to it?
Hello, it should be totaly wet, jsut water, nothing inside.
Amazing 🤩 thank you for teaching me a wonderful skill in clear simple ways

Thank you for your nice and encouraging comment.
This is brilliant I have be buy this cord. Not any more Thankyou
Gracias, nunca se me hubiera ocurrido 👍🏻
I just inherited a treadle sewing machine that goes back 4 generations in my family and have started to restore it back to perfect working condition. I need a new belt but I don't want to purchase one when I have a few large pieces of leather to use. Thanks for showing me how to make exactly what I'm looking for!
Mind me asking, what did you need the leather cord for if ur making a belt? I do a lil leather craft myself, but cant think of what youd it need it for, sorry.
@@Handles-R-Lame no worries, they usually refer to the part I need as a treadle belt. It's just a long leather cord with a staple securing both ends to each other. They're used to power old sewing machines with a pedal you rock back and forth with your feet that is mounted in a cabinet that holds the sewing machine
@@Sporophore_Hunter oh that makes perfect sense. Thanks for info, you learn something new each day lol well hopefully that machine works out for you im sure itll be a good one once you get everything up and running. Prolly work well for thick leather too, like harness or skirting. Best of luck to you!
@@Handles-R-Lame so far I've got it running with a makeshift belt I stitched up with some thinner leather I had on hand, it stitches nicely and reliably on anything I throw at it. It runs so smooth and quiet, really is a joy of a machine to work with!
The belt for that sewing machine is like $10 or $15 dollars on amazon. For that price I would just buy the belt instead of all this time to make a belt.
Very very thank you beautifull tecnugues ❤❤❤
This is raw skill n early men technic, may I ask u, where did u learn this from,? Now I m figuring how2 slot a few lacings through a long holed metal n make a cuff out of it. I don't have your this skill n I never make leather cuffs b4 but I want to make one by myself🤣
Hi, i learned this technic just by luck, i met with one man and he said long time ago he worked in a leather work, he helped the master, his duty was only cutting lace, master was making masks and bags, and he showed me how to do it.
Thanks sir God bless , you saved my thousands of rupees
So happy to hear:)

If you don't mind. What liquid did you use @3:26?
Just water.
What liquid is that you smeared?
Just water.
Amazing!
Amazing
What is the size of the tape used, the caliber and the type of leather used, even if a twisted leather was made for the accessories, what is the diameter of the tape, the gauge and the type of leather or the handle of the bag? What is the diameter and gauge of the tape and the type of leather
Bravo ☺️
what is the diameter of the roundshape leather? how long the laces based on that piece of leather?
Very cool...
Baking, pasta, leather craft; who knew? I am in love ♡
wanna buy leather cords ? natural leather cord
Amazing

Como se llama ese cuero
I like the simplicity of the technique. I am trying to make lace from a deer hide. Would this work on softer leathers?
Thanks, you can make lace but not round with soft leather. The leather has to be veg. tanned. Better to try with a small piece to be sure, good luck.
wanna buy buffalo leather cords round shape ?
Is that wood or stone the rounded one?
i used wood, stone works better.
Hi, how can I make a thick cord?
you need a thick leather))
This is awesome. Thanks a million for sharing.
Hello, can you tell me what’s the liquid you used. I’m new at this so I have no idea. Thanks for the video.
Hello, just water to make the leather soft. You need to use vegetable tanned leather, with other leathers does not work.
@@teurjicraftshandmade7400 thank you very much. I’m already subscribed.
@@afritsasori69 thank you too.
@@teurjicraftshandmade7400 is there ay way to make round cord with non vegetable tanned leather?
benefits in India leather cords if anyone needs please
Oh for the love get a 6$ lace cutter
Salam, gardash! How thick was the lace when you finished ? I mean diameter.
Selam, It is 2,2 mm.
@Teurji Crafts Handmade The user and the type of leather If we want to make twisted leather for the handle of the bag, does the leather gauge differ in the final diameter of the twisted leather and what is the leather gauge
@Teurji Crafts Handmade What type of suede is used for the twist?
Can not see the photo or what, it is very clearly round, you are the only person that telling, it is bad:) do it better and show i will follow. It is just a simple and easy method how to do it, i learned from an old master and share the knowledge. Machines can make it perfect.
@@handmadeleather You do not understand the meaning of this method my friend, this technic has not required any special tool as i wrote in the title, as far as i know it is the simplest way to make round lace, if you roll enough, you can create accapteble meters of round lace, the vidoe you send another method to do it but i do not agree it is better;
because
1 - you can create only short lace, in the method i shared you can create really long laces using very little amount of leather, becouse i use round leather
2- also thickness is matter in the method that you sent, thickness dimension has to be more than hole,
3- and last you waste leather in that method, but maybe it is not so important amount:)
i used finishing polish at the end, possible to use tokonele as well.
