The Greatest Sports Movie Ever Made. Extremely well done. Kurt was spot on and should have won an Oscar for his role. I’ve watched the movie many times and get emotional every time.
I can't even count the number of times I have watched this movie....and everytime i watch it I get the same exact emotions i had when I watched the USA olympic team defeat the soviets...its unreal how the producers and directors and actors totally got it and were able to create a movie that was that much on point...even the game itself...was accurate and gets me charged up everytime!!!..they created some other movie called miracle on ice just a few years after the actual game..and it came far short of capturing those emotions...Miracle definitely got it from beginning to end..and yeah watching kurt russel was just like watching the real Herb Brooks ..thankyou!!!
As a kid that grew up in Minnesota idolizing the University of Minnesota hockey team, the 1980 Olympic team was extra special to me and so many of my friends. I was in 7th grade at the time and several us watched the game together, luckily avoiding any updates on the results as we knew the game was tape-delayed. When the game was over we ran out into the street running around and screaming, and our parents let us all play street hockey until well past midnight before finally calling us all home. It's a moment I'll never forget and I've watched Miracle at least 20 times.
I fully agree as well - Walt Disney, the man, was a very patriotic American - the Disney corporation which (did not) follow the legacy of its creator has turned against Mr. Disney's convictions and traditional beliefs. How sad, how low it has come, Ciao, L
My mother watched this game and she told me when Al shouted do you believe in miracles, everyone watching the tv didn’t hear his own answer because they all screamed yes at the same time he did. There may never be a moment like that again.
Of the 20 skaters, 12 were from Minnesota. I played HS hockey in MN and am about the same age as the players. I cant' begin to express how much pride I have in our state and their accomplishment.
I was 15 at the time of this game. And the next day our team was playing for the state title. I was Jack up and scored the 2 first goals the first min of the game. Our team won 9 to 6 and we celebrated like there was no tomorrow. No I didn’t get a hat trick but I had 2 goals and 2 assists. We won that’s all that mattered. I have that poster of the USA team still in my game room
@@sammyweed4771 you could not have asked for a better catalyst and inspiration for your title game. I would have loved to see so many young players on that ice at the same time...super pumped up!! What state?
I'm in my 70's now. I remember those two weeks like it was yesterday. Stiil cry every time i watch it. One of my biggest regrets has always been NOT having gone to Lake Placid to witness it. I still recall the night they tied Sweden, thinking that "something" was going on here that was bigger than all of us. If only i had listened to my premonition.
Stiil cry every time i watch it. ---You and me both brother. I was 14 years old. For those who weren't alive at the time; who weren't here to know just how deep in the shitter and depressed we were as a nation--reeling from Vietnam, Watergate, The Oil Crisis, inflation out of control, hostages in Iran. It was, as I'm sure you know as as no one born after can know, a dark place. Even I knew it at my age. We felt like there was no hope for us; no future. And then, as God is my judge, this game happened and what they say about it lifting us all is just no exaggeration at all. It all turned around.
I grew up in rural New England where we every school day started with a prayer and this pledge: ""I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.". On Fridays, we would sing the National Anthem, we all stood up, we all had classes on "citizenship". No body, I mean no one ever "took a knee". I remember classmates lifting one of our students because he wore a full leg cast so hie could "stand up" for this tradition. That was and is what America should be all about. May God bless America! Ciao, L (Veteran)
I remember seeing this in theaters as a young kid with my father. I’m so glad they have this behind the scenes editors cut. I can’t believe they had 1.3 million clips taken to make this movie. That is absolutely insane…. The amount of detail put into this was amazing. This has to go down as one of the greatest films of all time. They broke down individual plays from the real games and recreated them with 10 hockey players on the ice moving around at 20mph… that’s no easy feat. Incredible to see the behind the scenes and all the work they put in. All the hits, shots, goals, saves, everything was done to perfection and just draws you into every single play. The music was great as well. I hope they continue to make movies like this.
I had my girlfriend watch this movie, who was an athlete growing up. She loved the movie. And at the end, when it said about Herb dying before the movie was finished. Then it said he never saw it, he lived it. She full blown broke down into a waterfall of tears!!! Emotional rollercoaster. And one of the best sports movies ever made!!!
GREAT------CLASSIC, FILM ! Of many ironies, one of the very best : An Italian kid, plays Jack O'Callahan & an Irish kid plays Mike Eruzione . ONLY in America ! ------MJL, 77 y/o
Greatest sports moment in history. I cant imagine it will ever be surpassed. This was a group of college hockey players that beat the best hockey team in the world. A team that trounced NHL teams.
It can not be greatest!. USA had More Ice rinks and hockey players than Russia in 1980! Today USA have 500000 hockey players! Canada 600000 players! Russia have only 80000 hockey players! Soviet League goal scoring leaders were in 1980 Shalimov 34 goals Drotzdetzky 31 Varnakov 30 Priodin 27 Lavrentjev 27 they did not played in 1980 olympics! Lake placid was a good tournament with players like Jari Kurri Peter Stastny Glenn Anderson Neal Broten! NHL points leaders after olympics in 1980s Gretzky Kurri Peter Stastny Glenn Anderson Neal Broten! But is not the greatest because no zero ice rinks zero hockey sticks in Russia!, Soccer have 4 billion fans around the world! Cricket 2,5 billion fans around the world! Soccer have 250 million players vs USA or Canada 600000!that means The Soccer All Stars would beat Hockey All Stars 100 game Series 93-7! No-one watched only 34 million tv watchers in 1980 young USA vs Soviet B! World series drew 54 million tv watchers in 1980! Superbowl 82 million tv watchers in USA 1980! How low you can go when stupid slow boring baseball drews two times bigger tv ratings than Soviet B!
Wow This was awesome, after all these years I’m just now seeing this video. Great stuff ! I’ve watched the movie many times. One of my favorite sports movies ever.
Ryan Walter, the technical advisor in this movie, is a star with Montreal Canadiens from 1982 to 1991, he was in the trade who send Rod Langway, Craig Laughlin, Brian Engblom and "Ironman" Doug Jarvis to Washington Capitals in September 1982 with Rick Green. In the movie, he wear a referee sweater for the USA-USSR semi-final game
i remember watching Jim Craig and his hair coming out between the straps of his mask and he'd lumber around the goal when play stopped his head bouncing, pumping himself up ...He was in "The Zone" and he looked scary. After he got decked, i was thinking the only thing missing is a Chainsaw. One of my Favorite Movies and it takes me back to 1980.
I was a teenager from the South who knew nothing about ice hockey....and to this day, those guys from the Midwest and Northeast...are still my guys. They taught me that we were from different geography, but were from the same ilk.
This was very well done, thanks. Loved the movie, had 2 kids in hockey at that time and saw it with their teams. Vividly remember the 1980 games, still get goose bumps watching the clips. Was a tough and very sad day when Herb died in the car accident by Forest Lake, Mn
They taught me to always follow your dreams, so, I moved to Chatsworth, CA and became an actor in some of the most significant and most recognized adult films of the genre. I owe the 1980 team a lot. I truly do.
It's nice to see my friend Sasha Lakovic as a team Soviet captain Boris Mihailov. He was so colorful person and a great guy! You will be missed R.I.P. Sasha (1971-2017)
I think I’m the only person who watches these just to be a little closer to my dad and brother who are no longer here every day I look over at my hockey picked signed by the players who came back to placid the night of the premier and played hockey with us kids that day still have a front page article of euruzioni dropping a puck for my brother
Walt Disney, the man, was a very patriotic American who promoted rather strict conservative principles and values not only in his productions/creations but in his lifestyle as well (I wrote my college paper ~1970, about his life and was fortunate enough to interview some of his associates). The Disney Corporation which (did not) follow the legacy of its creator has turned against Mr. Disney's convictions and traditional beliefs; it no longer represents Walt Disney's vision of a "better world", it is now about money and political power. How sad, how low it has come, Ciao, L
My only critique is U.S.A completely out hit Russia, and out played them. Also, Jim Craig didn't get hit and hurt. Other than that it was a good movie.
As great as this movie is and as good as the overall production is, with all due respect the fake call of Al Micheals is torturously obvious and forced and does not blend well with the real call. And the fake hockey sounds are really obvious as well. They are very overdone and not at all natural. Separate from all this, the one truly sad part is Brooks dying before the movie was complete.
Extremely underrated movie.
Kurt Russell has quietly become one of the greatest American actors of all time.
The Greatest Sports Movie Ever Made. Extremely well done. Kurt was spot on and should have won an Oscar for his role. I’ve watched the movie many times and get emotional every time.
Kurt definitely should have won an Oscar for this. His depiction of Brooks was impeccably done.

Disney is far and gone, get real. Same with marvel, starwars, it's all the same thing.
They're too busy grooming children 🤬🤬🤬

How this film didn't win every academy award is mind-blowing

Kurt and Goldy Hawn's son became a D 1 NCAA Goalie, so they were literally a hockey dad/mom. He knew what the game entailed.
