I just came across this video and thought I'd take a look. I've been wanting to start carving/sculpting for some time but, I'm afraid to fail.. Just been watching everyone else doing amazing things with carving. Just wanted to let you know - I exactly know what your talking about with the concave bur! Someone needs to manufacture these - it just makes sense!
If you’re afraid to fail, then “fail fast.” Start producing carvings, one after the other, without being frozen by perfectionism. You will be constantly observing and assessing your mistakes, but keep going. You will continue to learn and apply what you learned as you produce. Do not over-analyze and critique every stroke of the knife without forward momentum. Just do it. Pick up your wood, pick up your tool(s), grab some reference photos of your intended object, and start carving. Relax, enjoy, carve, then move on to the next carving, then the next. You will see improvement, you will start loosening up with experience. Do not remain frozen in place with nothing to show for it and nothing learned. Good luck.
@@toonybrainthanks for the encouragement! I will at least try, I have all the tools I need to get started. I just gotta pull my head out and get carving!
Works for me bud. Im not perfect neither is my art and i tell folks that and they love the authentic and character our carvings get from not being critical. Its fun ❤
Hey Man , I just wanted to thank you for all the help ! The Illustration’s & Visualizations ! Hands On Approach ! The Narrating along while your carving ! You’ve been an Inspiration ! Thank You !!! I’ve Started buying tools & gathering up wood ! Waiting on an order of very coarse bits for my Dremel !
I'm currently working on a big ( for me ) woodspirit and I made a mess of the eyes 😒 after watching this video I might just be able to rescue them , thanks jordy 🤘👍🏻
Hi Jordy... You're right..the shape of the burrs do present a challenge when making the curves correct on the eyes and lids..so struggle #1... The fact that the eyes are an orb inside a socket..struggle #2... To balance the shape of the entire eye..even though normal human beings don't have symmetry..struggle #3... Yep eyes...an interesting part of anatomy...the struggle is real...you've done many in the past that were excellent and you'll find a way to teach those of us who still struggle... Thank you Jordy...🌿🌿🌿
This is great. Last night I was literally standing there turning my accessory holder, mind effing myself because I couldn’t figure out the shape I needed. Haha glad I’m not the only one
Great demo Jordy, thanks. I usually struggle with the eyes but now I realise that I haven’t been leaving myself enough room. Hopefully I can work on that now.
I used my old taxidemy eyes on 2 of mine and thry look pretty good , lol but i used a blackbuck antelope eye with is sorta grey background and the spirit is smoking a cigar that i didnt finish but coated in glue that makes it moisture proof Great video Jordy, i will do regular sprit eyes but i to have some trouble on eyes!! Thanks again!!
I just kinda started doing wood spirits, people love em and they sell, but...i need to figure out my eyes. Jordy you are hear when i need ya. Thanks bud. Its like you know what im thinking haha crap. Lol❤
Jordy c'est bien réussi et au début en voyant ces gros ronds j'avais à m'imaginer et en moins de rien tu y forme les paupières et cela change tout ! Félicitations !
I love your videos. I’m just starting and you make it easy to learn. I couldn’t find the straight blue cutters you are using. If you could just print the name that would be great. Thanks again for your easy to follow videos.
Everyone has almond-shaped eyes. I am not talking about slanted eyes; you can do slanted eyes if you want, but the eyes are almond-shaped; you could make your own stencils in many different sizes and for other applications.
I know your struggles Jordy I have the same problem keeping them even and making look like an eye, some people make it look so easy not me brother lol. Good looking wood spirit. How about a wizard hat curved over at the top.
Suggest trying not to shoot for perfection (i.e., eyes symetrical). If you view the human face, each side is a little different; like your Wind Spirits. The differences from one side to the other are the things that give your carvings character. If your carvings were perfectly symmetrical, I would hesitate buying one. It's those small differences that make them attractive. Just keep doing what you do so well without trying to make things perfect. I use to do the same thing when turning wood on a lathe. When I accepted the flaws in the wood, the pieces became more attractive and natural. Keep up the great carvings! 👍
Jordy, What if we took a cone shaped Dremel grinding stone and round it into the shape you are talking about. It could be done with a cylinder stone grinding the concave shape into the grinding cone. I am going to try it in the next day or so. It won't carve well but it would at least get the eye the right shape? Can you picture it?
Another great video. Jordy, I think you stress too much about getting them exactly the same. Peoples faces are different left and right. You have seen that demo where you see the left and then the right side...looks like different people.

Excellent tutorial Jordy! Thank you. I’ve been waiting for this and it is very helpful to me.
There's so many intricate details around a persons eye's. It's damn tough to get them to look real. But always a learning experience to try. Hi Jordy.
Good as gold 😉

Good job Jordy
What about a Wood Spirit / Green Man mix? Possibly vines with leaves & flowers for the bottom 1/2 & maybe continue this on the top to balance it out?
Cracking job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love your videos. I’m just starting and you make it easy to learn.
I couldn’t find the straight blue cutters you are using. If you could just print the name that would be great.

I believe there are 1/8 wall tile cutters
Hi Jordy ,your eyes are top of wood pile mate keep on blinking 😀👍

Your work is amazing . Great educational video. Could you do a tall Sasquatch video
man i learned a lot ty ty ty great class.
Great to watch and helps tremendously thank you.
You explain so amusing
Great tutorial video! When it comes to eyes it`s best to just use a V tool chisel in my opinion. You have more control and it gets them done fast.
I think i would agree with you there
Thanks so much again, what is this struggle I keep hearing about
The struggle is real
Looks great.

Why don't you have a template of the outer shape of the eyes
Because I dont
My wife likes your videos her first and her second one
Canadian1dude@gmail.com
Where do you get your bur cutters
Kutzall
Mushrooms for the base and an awl for the top.
Eating my Cheerios and watching me some Jordy Johnson!

Look like a top hat type of sprit.to me.
Everyone has one eye that's bigger than the other, one foot that's bigger, etc. no worries
Concave vs Convex
Don't know how to send a picture of her work
💞💕Randomly you have been🔝🔝 shortlisted🙏 to HMU on my private dispatch giveaway account on 📩TeIegram.🔝🎉🎁.

Sometimes you have to use a chisel.
