Matt, thank you. I've watched your eye videos so many times and each time I've learned something I missed the ti.e before. I've bought all the burrs you've recommended and it's made all the difference in the world.
Thanks Matt. No specific issues as I have only done a couple of would spirits. When I do some more detailed carving this will be a great guide. If you have just uploaded this you should be bed. It's very late. 😂❤
Hi Matt, your eyes 👀 look great mine just look OK like eyes. When you are using the diamond burr and the 2mm burr is the speed high 25 - 30,000 rpm or lower 15 - 20,000 rpm. I usually spend a lot of time on the eyes and the more I do the worse they get. And if the eyes are the soul to your wood spirit mine have no soul.
I think eyes are hard to do but one day it clicks and you are away. Speed of the dremel is hard to say exactly if you doing some thing really delicate in soft wood slow it down as you have more control.
Very helpful Matt. Just found ya. Been watching Jordy an Linker mostly but I'll be adding your presentations cuz, well, your just plain better at eyes cousin. Thank you. Ken
My biggest problems (just learning - a REAL beginner here) is the wood I'm using I think. I'm in the Philippines and am currently just using old scrap cut offs of pine 2x2's from when we built our house. I think I'll try to source some other scrap wood from somewhere.
I always struggle more with the left eye.. Always!! Gonna have a little go today if i can find some wood that is not pine... Im so sick of "ridgey" of pine.😂
I've heard that eyes are a pain in the neck. I have a much lower opinion! Maybe, when you are explaining the 'flat plane' of the eyes, if you use one of your skull carvings to show the flat plane of the eye sockets it might help in understanding what you mean? Or maybe not, just a thought. The smoothing and finishing with the flat headed burrs is a great idea. Thanks!
Hi Matt, I just want you to know that I’m suffering from manic depressive disorder…treatment resistant. I came upon your tutorials, the detailed ones, and I remembered I used to want to do this, it gave me some hope. I want to start with the Indian woman spirit. What are the minimum burrs I need to start ? Thanks for any guidance.
Sorry to hear what you are going through. Kutzalls are great. Go for the extreme flame and fine taper burr first. If you watch this video it explains the burrs I use ruclips.net/video/VQ0kZ48wvU8/видео.htmlsi=OYbbPjE-tLoJjeIT
Hi Matt, did a little shopping and I could use some clarification. For FLAME BURR😅 1/2”x1” or 1/4”x1/2”, fine, coarse, very coarse, original COATING or extreme coating? On TAPER BURR: head 1/4”x1/2” or 1/8”x7/8”. Then the same questions as above: fine, coarse, very coarse, COATING: original, extreme. I so appreciate your help!
If you are buying burrs for the dremel it is 1/8shaft you are after The flame I recommend is the black one in the pictures . 1/8" SHAFT - FLAME BURRS - 1/4" X 1/2" REGULAR PRICE $ 19.20 SKU: FLX-14-EC And the taper burr is the gold, fine long one 1/8" SHAFT - TAPER BURRS - 1/8" X 7/8" REGULAR PRICE $ 11.85 SKU: T-18-EG
We call it Macrocarpa here in New Zealand. It is originally from Southern California. Yes your right it is quite soft, I don't think it is as soft as basswood. Cheers for watching 👍
@@MattCarves Hey Matt since I have now carved an eye, I am going to rewatch your video because I formed a few little opinions and I’m gonna see what I pick up this time and then I will get back with you and make some recommendations. My video is uploading so if you get a chance, check it out if you have any pointers, they will be well received. Thanks, Matt.
@WedoweeHandyman just watched your video. It's hard to carve an eye out of context, as in carving on a flat surface. I always find it easier working in reference to other facial features, eg, the nose. I think why it ended up looking like a dragons eye is the horizontal length was quite long compared to the vertical. Most newer carvers tend to make there eyes to large for the face. I reckon the eyelids were great on it, definitely on point there. 👍
@@MattCarves thanks Matt that helps and makes perfect sense having all the other properly positioned features would definitely help with the mental image. Eyelids were interesting to see how much a very small amount of material removed makes a big differences
These tutorials are a combination of carving and anatomy. I think they’re quite good to help with the success of these type of carvings. Thanks Matt
Cheers Linda, yeah it's funny how we all own a face but are sometimes unfamiliar with its anatomy. Have a great day 🙂
