Brother Andy. Got to say that opening piece to this video reminded me so much of another one of my favorite players with the name Andy. Andy Timmons uses that same idea like in "Resolution" that you opened up with a lot in his music and he's my other favorite guitar player besides you. so just got to say thank you so much for that beautiful piece of music at the beginning
I just realized why I love Andy's playing. Not only is his alternate picking crazy but he's very melodic& soulful. Just awesome one of my favorite players!
Good job Andy. You are correct about Andy Timmons and 3rds. His song the Prayer the Answer is almost a study in 3rds and split triads. Besides being able to shred, you have melodic creativity and that is what keeps me coming back to hear you teach and play...plus, like Mr. Timmons, you are sincerely a humble guy for the weight of talent you carry...smile.
Love this explanation, you’re a fantastic teacher. I really like the idea of looking for thirds then moving it back a fret to find the minor, it’s a cool way to think of the fretboard
Cannot say thanks enough for this series. As an old self-taught guy, these videos have given me more "ah ha!" moments than I can count. Has clarified so many things one sort of knows after years of playing and revealed so many new concepts as well. Just brilliant stuff man. Forever grateful. I almost envy the young guys just starting, getting this sort of foundation, an awesome gift in tough times. Cheers.
These earlier Woodshed videos were so much better than the more recent ones. I actually advanced by these detailed lessons. All of the lessons are great, but to me, it seems like the beginning was so much more simplified. Which , for me, is what I need. I do appreciate all these lessons from in my opinion one of the greatest players on the planet .
to clarify, its the subject matter and level of learning that was better? this strikes a chord with me because ive dumped so much time into improving the quality of the audio, the video and the directness of the subject matter. help me help you
It is indeed helpful to learn by watching such an awesome guitarist teach and play so skillfully. But it is also intimidating and depressing to see yourself in the light of such a superstar guitarist.
I have just found you Andy and sorry for the delay😂…..you think and play exactly as I do and have done for years. Keeping it simple makes you efficient and always playing with feel…thank you for restoring my sanity and not needing to fall down the theory hole to be a better player!11
Great tutorial Andy. I was taught to play in 3rd's in a scale (major scale or any scale, mode) 1st then the 3rd, 2nd then the 3rd, 3rd then the 3rd, 4th then the 3rd, 5th then the 3rd, 6th-3rd, 7th- 3rd, octave-3rd. I was taught this way for thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, even sevenths. Also to play them as double stops. This lesson was very educational! Thanks dude.
Crickie! I've long time been messing around with the third and didn't even know it's a thing. I've made up something almost identical to what you played in the open sequence. It's uncanny how similar it is! Been mucking about with it for yours but always thought I'm being too simplistic. All this time I'm asking myself how come I don't know sh!t. Why am I so talentless on this guitar thing I been toying with for so many years... Then I watch matters like you and I'm very knowledgeable about the lesson, then I realized that I do know sh!t. Just need to put this power to use for something. Thanks for making me realize that I know way more than I thought I did. You're an awesome dude and player. That time is.... WOW!!!!
Great lesson and topic! I’d love a video on its application to country and chicken picking/playing changes in third runs etc. thanks for sharing with us!
Awesome tutorial Andy! As usual, your playing is pure fire and passion. Just got your ShapeShifter course on Truefire... AMAZING material! Woodshedding has taken new life for me! Thanks bro!
You’re a godsend man. The Woodshed Series is the best quarantine gift ever. Also want to move over to TrueFire once I’m done with Jam Play. Man, I hope u get good commissions for these lessons. Been playing professionally a long long time and you’re the 1st person that has made the guitar make sense to me as I’m always trying to improve every facet. Any other lesson opportunities other than above and RUclips, please let me know.
Nice!!! Get your Sus chords on...Beautiful!!! I can see everything when I play piano, but it's still difficult for me to look at guitar and see where everything is. These vids help ALOT!!!
Hello Andy! Great stuff, as always! I would really love to get a little tutorial on that chicken pickin stuff on a future episode. I'm not a country guy at all but it seems like big fun. Unfortunately, I don't have a real idea how to approach those licks you play here and there (too fast for me to follow). Stay safe, man! Love your playing! Cheers! :)
Andy, I love your lessons just wish you go a tad slower. Could you also show us how you get those awesome guitar tones? Please keep up the good job you are helping this 53 year old get information from the internet we did not have when I was playing back in late seventies and into the eighties. I wish I had youtube back when I was younger. I would be so much further ahead. Thank you!!!
Braxal cheers man, yeah still trying to polish my pacing for everyone, but as of the videos that I make in general they are setup in my mind like this - 20 min video equals 3-4 “chapters” don’t be bashful about just watching the first concept (usually 4-5 min) then pausing and working on just that. I’m trying not to get the episodes to small and simple that intermediate-advanced guys feel “bored” Pacing these videos as a creator is challenging, but I absolutely appreciate your support more than you know! Cheers Braxal
Or play it in free VLC video player, with BOTH speed slider, and possibility to repeat a section chosen by yourself. "Repeat A to B at 60% speed" or what ever!
I can't thank you enough for this series Andy. I thoroughly enjoyed each episode, especially this one and the faux slide one. I had a question about your black Suhr. I have the Iron Red model and I love it. I've been thinking about picking up the black one, but I can't find a wiring diagram anywhere. Can you tell me the pickup combos in the 5 positions?
Michael Simon sure, it’s simple. Bridge, 2 inside coils, both humbuckers, neck most coil of neck pickup, full neck pickup. Push pull for series parallel on tone pot. 💥 boom
Love the voicing here, I hear Andy Timmons type tone here and I long to find it. How are you getting that compressed driven tone? I hear it heavily in Robbie Calvo’s playing as well. I tried the Calvo signature pedal hoping for it but to no avail. I’m running a Custom Core Heritage H-150 through a Diezel VH2 head.
Thanks Andy!!Ive been playing for 25 years or so and until a few years back i started trying to see intervals and not shapes..It needs work but it is definitely the way to go i think..Even though you are Cobra Kai we still like you :) Is Corfu guitar school happening this year or canceled? Thanks for everything!!
You’re an awesome teacher that totally fits my style! Thank God I found your content!

Amen just like Andy Timmons, but a bit different 👍

This is the way I and 1000s learned music. Triads and their upper extensions.
Reverend Andy delivers spiritual enlightenment without the finger wagging.

Absolutely love your playing!!! Beautiful
@5:31 - Damn, you just popped my brain, bro! You bridged a gap I've had for a long time! Thanks, Andy!
Awesome examples for application, thanks for helping me get better Andy!
I love the way you teach, thanks so much.

Some beautiful stuff up front Andy, Love it!
This is great Andy thanks a lot.
I've got chops & bends, but you shine a light for me, bud! Thank you!!
It is indeed helpful to learn by watching such an awesome guitarist teach and play so skillfully. But it is also intimidating and depressing to see yourself in the light of such a superstar guitarist.
So well explained Andy, thanks for this!
I really enjoy the summary part. Like a mental checklist. Helps me remember what you said.
So inspiring

Super helpful lesson, thanks!
Good advice and great playing Mr. Wood, like always.
But dude, i love that Cobra Kai T-Shirt. 😉👍
Great lesson and topic! I’d love a video on its application to country and chicken picking/playing changes in third runs etc. thanks for sharing with us!
Good stuff once again Andy! You just got on, but you are killing it! Keep it up! 🏆👍🏽
Awesome tutorial Andy! As usual, your playing is pure fire and passion. Just got your ShapeShifter course on Truefire... AMAZING material! Woodshedding has taken new life for me! Thanks bro!
This is so cool. It's exactly what I'm learning from my teacher currently 😁
I like your camera angle on this much better! Thanks!

This is GOLD
Great lesson! Been working on seeing intervals clearly, still got a long way to go. Might make up some flash cards to work from.

Beautiful Intro!
You Play Fantastic worldclass and better than many Starguitarists .
So funny I paused vid and started commenting about Timmons phrasing and then unpaused and Mr Wood went right to it, lol. I guess my ear isn’t that bad
Hey Andy amazing video!!
What is the song you played at 14:08?
Thanks a lot :)

Or play it in free VLC video player, with BOTH speed slider, and possibility to repeat a section chosen by yourself. "Repeat A to B at 60% speed" or what ever!
Just great. Would love to see the connections to some country stuff. Also, what cab are you running the Bella through?
Greg Johnson Diezel cab with classic lead 80s
Great shirt.
JoelsMIMStrat you know it! Haha
