  • Expats and retired on US Social Security, we put on our House Hunters International hats today. Yes you can have a luxury ski or golf lifestyle in Bansko Bulgaria. Today we look at affordable homes with great rental potential near the ski slopes in Bansko Bulgaria and at the Pirin Golf Course. For Expats and Retirees looking for that dream Golf or Ski lifestyle on a Social Security budget we made this video for you.
    Bansko is just now showing up on the Expat radar, it's already become a hit with the digital nomad crowd hosting the nomad fest each summer. If you're seeking an active outdoor lifestyle with skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, hiking, biking, river rafting, hot springs, and spas Bansko has it. The year-round population of 13,000 swells for nine months of the year from mid-December for ski season through mid-September, for the cooler mountain air and summer sports activities. From mid-September to mid-December, it's a slow sleepy tranquil town. Bulgaria has a low cost of living compared to most of Europe and the US, which means your dollar or Euro will take you further.
    We recommend this location to healthy individuals, healthcare in the area is focused on injuries, emergencies, and common illnesses, there is not a major medical center in the area.
    Bansko and the surrounding communities have a growing amount of foreigners calling the region home due to the low cost of living and quality of life. The average US Retiree on Social Security receives $1,660 a month, and a couple on Social Security receives over $2,700 a month. A US Expat living on Social Security can expect a lower cost of living in Portugal when compared to the living costs in the US.

      @@WarrenJulieTravel i get it, but you are misleading ppl. Many people from UK came to BG 10-15y ago and now left as they don’t like it. Same with russians. The reason is that they buy in villages which are getting depopulated, as Bulgarians also move into cities. Village infrastructure and health care is terrible to none. Nature is great, villages are good for vacation/holiday stay but not for living.

    Hi W n J. Thanks for the Vlog. I am totally amazed at the real estate prices here. I dont understand how with this level of Amenities, a better than a resort setting the prices can be this low. I bet after watching this video the US expats are going to raid this place. Surely this is a place for even a lower middle income US retiree to enjoy a truly luxurious living. I liked the 1 BR unit (that was already sold) overlooking the fountains and the market area and the amazing views it had for the price. A nice balcony to just sit down relax and people watch and lead stress free life. Not a bad idea to buy a unit here as a permanent home to enjoy the European living shuttling between the Schengen and Non Schengen zones. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to show case nicer places out there.

      Good question, quick answer is Schengen. If Bulgaria were not joining Schengen we would have, since we can only stay 90 days every 180 days in all 29 Schengen countries combined we would have to limit our travel to the other countries to spend time in Bulgaria. Bulgaria joined Schengen four months ago officially.

    There are furnished studios out by the golf course for well under 20K. Is there something wrong with them? Can places by the golf course realistically be rented out during ski season, given that there's a shuttle bus that runs regularly into Bansko?

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  Год назад

      Yes you can rent out golf locations during the ski season, there is the shuttle bus. I believe it runs every 15 minutes at that time of the year.
      During the 2008 financial collapse many buildings that were under construction came to a halt in the area. Some were 80% complete some 20%, you’ll see these incomplete projects scattered around. Some of the lowest cost properties may be in or next to these unfinished projects. It’s best to visit the area to ascertain the project’s status, of course Hristo can assist with this as well.

I'm planning on joining the golf club -- $1,500/yr for 7 days/wk; $800/yr for Mon-Thurs. I'd prefer to live in Bansko, and hope some arrangement can be made with the shuttle that is cheaper than a taxi. Will contact Hristo -- I'm assuming there are no local mortgages available.

      Almost everyone in Bulgaria owns their own property, and there is no way that the government can take it away, unlike in the USA. Mortgages are very rare.
      This is one thing Bulgarians pride themselves on is that they own land and property that is eternal and can pass it down to their children or family.
      There are also no natural disasters that would destroy your property, unless you consider hail storms or a river flood (rare)
