4 new trucks in 3 years. You will never encounter any real truck owner issues. You only just break them in at the most before you change them. Not an accurate appraisal of the equipment.
I purchased the LT, 4x4, with Z71, 3.0 LZ0 in March. I do not tow., daily driver. Just now reading 10.000 miles. Def usage is not an issue with my truck. At about 7.500 miles I bought the Walmart box of def for about $10. It was reading about half full and that filled it back up. It’s at about 3/4 a tank now. So honestly no worries about def for this truck. Fuel mileage is around 25mpg all around. This truck is %100 stock. I changed the break in oil at 1.500 miles, again at 5.000, and just now at 10.000. Has not burned or used a drop of oil. Dipstick always shows in the full mark. I always fuel up at the same place. I do not use any fuel additives, and plan on changing fuel filter when needed. This truck is comfortable riding, easy to maintain, fun to drive, and fits the needs for me and my family. I plan on keeping it as long as there are no issues or problems. Would recommend to anyone looking at the 5.3, or even the 6.2. When late at night, and not using the air conditioning, Iam getting 30 + mpg on the highway. Pretty remarkable for a full size truck. So far, so good!
I got 2023 rst 3.0 duramax having all kind of issues with Def changed the injector pump still giving problems I got 40k miles I love my truck but it's going back in the Chevrolet garage again last time they took it for em3 weeks
@michaelmcmillan2119 ..... I have the same truck... 22" wheels 4 X 4... RST... Diesel... Pulled my Sea Hunt 229 Ultra to Florida from NC and it drank DEF like no tomorrow... Gave me false readings stating DEF tank was empty while it was 3/4's full or better... Definitely drinks DEF under tow versus while not in tow... Otherwise I love it... Dealer tell you something is wrong with your DEF readings... ??? While NOT IN TOW... My truck lasts multiple full diesel fill ups prior to having to add DEF... Great truck overall... I love how she drives and rides on highway... Super smooth with a powerful pull... !!!
Good report. I’m old geezer looking at buying a Yukon. But I worry about the lifter problem. But Duramax seems like a pain to me. Heard about stalling, cranking etc. Do you think the lifter problem is a disqualification of the V8. Scares the hell out of me on a lonely road in the middle of nowhere.
Don’t worry about fuel mileage, at 60 mph, on a flat highway I was getting just over 40mpg in a 50 mile loop. Hardly worth trying to get more. Towing my 7000 lbs RV trailer (30 foot) I was getting between 12-15 mpg or about 50% higher than my Avalanche with the 5.3 V8.
I also use the fuelly app and i use it to track my def purchases and oil changes and any other truck related expenses. i love the fact that i can go on the app and instantly tell when i last put def in the truck. i usually put a 2.5 gal container in once every 3 to 4 months and almost always fill up when it reads half full
For all those interior chrome pieces that blind you in the face when driving because the sun beams off of it. I took my truck to a vinyl wrap shop and had every chrome trim piece wrapped.
I have a 2023 LTZ with the Max Tow and the 3.0. Its a bit of a unicorn. I love that the Max Tow on the LTZ came with the HD mirrors. You gain a big blind spot but for towing and backing they are awesome. You lose a little mpg with the Max Tow because you get a lower gear in the rear end. I avg 25 to 29 without a trailer and 13 to 15 with a 28' enclosed car trailer around 6500lbs. Although some mods drop temps on the trans the stock equipment does just fine. All parameters well within operating ranges for the oil and equipment. I have over 4000 miles towing in high heat and humidity. I did use 1 qt of oil in between the new and the 1st oil change. None on the second. Def useage at first lasted well over 3000 miles on a full tank without a trailer and dropped by 2/3rds with the trailer on. However, the DEF useage has been improving (going down) as more miles have been put on the truck. Engine is awesome. If it ends up being durable I honestly cant come up with a reason to get the 5.3 or the 6.2 in a halfton. Its velvety smooth and gets great mileage.
What I remember from the tech specs is max tow increases payload by 30lb I think? (Or decreases…either way it wasn’t much). 1650+ is still quite respectable. I think if you don’t get max tow, you can get the off-road packages. Odd you can get both with GM’s. Glad to hear it’s running well! 3L Duramax was my #2 choice for truck and still think highly of them.
love my 23 at4. purchased in early december, had a couple non repeatable dtcs that 2 over the air updates corrected. 20,000 miles and my fuelly lifetime average is 25. 26 is standard when not towing. about to add the whole airflow / cooling ppe catalog to the truck when that intake pipe drops
I appreciate you keeping your window stickers for the year by year comparison. Gonna stick with my OG 2020 RST for most of the reasons you stated. It's still an awesome truck. Also really cool you're able to get issues on your personal trucks figured out with GM. It's dedicated guys like you that make these trucks better for all of us. I imagine finding that ground issue was quite an ordeal.
Thanks for the kind words ! The ground issue was ridiculous to find! It was so easy once seen and it came from a tip from another GM engineer that stepped in. They have seen it before... But that ground wasn't even part of the schematics for the current codes, go figure. Happy it's no longer coming back, that's for sure !
Really wanted a diesel suburban, but all the little issues people have , has made me super happy to stay with my Lexus SUV , flawless not 1 issue after 17000 miles on my 23 GX
I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one with the chrome trim glare problem. I've gotten into the habit of resting my hand on the shifter and using my arm to cover it up on the way to work in the afternoons. Other than that, I've been pretty happy with my 2023 High Country LZ0. Fuel economy using Fuelly (22 fill-ups) is averaging 24.5 mpg. I too have the occasional radio glitch where it goes out for a second or two and then comes back and I really wish GM would figure out a new way to get HD Radio in these trucks. Other than some minor gripes (no mechanical issues, just peeves), it's been a great truck. I get in it, start it up and it just...goes.
Yeal, that radio is going to get worse. Had to replace mine. $660 Sanyo. Radio shop said Chevy keeps the bills paid there. They get one a day coming in with the radio going out. Hell I’ve had to replace my transmission at 104,000 miles and never hauled or pulled anything. Condenser and 5 thermostats as well. Take it back to the dealership and leave it. New transmission was $4500. Torque converter failure. GM knows about it but they haven’t fixed it yet. They’ve known about it since at least 2014. Watch and see.
The waze and music setup you mentioned you dont like how the maps dont take up the full screen. this is an apple car play limitation because i have the same truck but i use android and if you click on the waze icon twice it will pop up on full screen.
bought my silverado 1500 duramax end of 2022 november and love it!! ive had check engine light on for some NOx sensor that would go away within a day, havent seen it since that one time though. also every time i turn the truck on and start driving ill lose audio for a second or two about 2-4 times. its weird, itll cut out all audio (radio, turn signal, etc) but only for that 1-2 seconds, but multiple times only within the first 1min of the truck turning on. not sure what causes that. over the last year ive averaged 26.3 mpg, with my best tank being 29.2 mpg and worst being 23.6 mpg! DEF ill need to refill every 4-6k miles as well depending on what im doing, and i have ~18k miles on it now.
@@johnbest5074 is there places I can check for loose connectors? Or just look at every harness connection make sure it's secure and check the battery terminations?
Thank you, I was wondering why folks talk about 3.73 and I cannot find the option on the builder. I would love to know what that is all about, no parts is odd.
This engine is perfect for my needs (on paper) and I want to order a loaded 3.0 duramax equipped RST double cab, but I am terrified of all the issues owners are reporting. I am not a patient man so I don't have the disposition to deal with a bunch of problems, especially since this would be my only vehicle. I worked at GM for 15 years so I'm well aware of their unfortunate quality failings. That said, I still want to give this LZ0 a chance because it really is a fantastic engine on paper. However, having driven Japanese vehicles exclusively for the last 12 years or so, I'm not use to dealing with a lot of quality problems. In fact, I've only had 1 warranty claim out of all the Japanese vehicles I've owned, a grill shutter fault on my 2017 Subaru. I desperately want GM to be better.
I love this engine. I’ve been leasing f150’s with the 3.5L ecoboost for 10 years and am buying my next one. Since 21 the ecoboost is insanely reliable but like the rest of the gas engines it’s not great on fuel everyday or towing my holiday trailer. This engine speaks to me but I’m also scared of longevity and DEF related issues. Being a truck driver I know how much of a headache def can be. I have a 23 f150 platinum on order but am considering these. The 2 things holding me back is the DEF and that GM still uses metal panelling and after 10+ years will probably rust.
@@RobVarley Fortunately, the emissions system is one aspect of this engine that most experts believe GM got right. There have been no complaints from owners that I can find about emissions issues or any problems with the DEF system. I looked at the F150 2.7 ecoboost, which I think is the best engine they offer in the F150, but it's not quite powerful enough for my needs. I also share your concerns about rust.
@@dlg5485 I’m sure it’s great in theory and would work in perfect conditions and if wiring doesn’t fail. There’s already known emissions wiring chaffing problems I found today. If I were leasing or planning on upgrading in a few years I’d definitely go this route. Since I put on low miles, 8000 a year, I’m buying my next one and keep or for a long time maybe the last truck I buy. I guess I have some def ptsd as well. My Peterbilt spent 2 years in the shop every 2-4 weeks for def sensors, wiring and various emissions codes. When they came out with the delete it was deleted. I haven’t had a problem since last November when it was done other than putting a new egr on 2 weeks ago. Cheers dude!
@@dlg5485 haha bro I’ve been looking at them hard the last two days at work. The emissions seams pretty reliable and in 5-6 years there will be a delete for it. I’m going tomorrow to check one out in person. I say in an at4 today, it was unlocked at the dealer but they were closed lol I locked it when I left. Living the at4 and the new interior.
@@RobVarley Yeah, I'm excited about this engine too, but I'm trying to wait at least until next spring because I think prices will continue going down as interest rates keep going up. One thing is for sure, prices won't be going up any time soon, so it's worth waiting a bit, just in case better deals lie ahead. And I want to give GM a bit more time to refine this LZ0. I'll have to special order one too because there are very few loaded RST double cab 2024s out there, especially with the diesel. A longer bed is way more valuable to me than a huge back seat and the double cab is about $3000 cheaper. In any case, I don;t want to compromise on my configuration if I'm spending this kind of money.
Love mine, first diesal I’ve owned 3 Silverado. Definitely didn’t realize how much def fluid it would use. I don’t remember as a younger person riding in my dads trucks him ever having too constantly carry def around lol.
Mine uses very little def normally, but when towing it increases quite a bit. Your dad's truck probably didn't use def. As a truck driver for 42 years it's a fairly recent thing. I believe it started around 2010
The multi flex isn't available with getting the automatic tailgate to close right back up right? I've seen videos with the multiflex HighCountry not having that?
@@MachChicken We're all in this together and we feel your pain! I'm doing the same thing, or trying to put something over it all the time. The bowtie on the steering wheel does it less often, but still occasionally.
A friend has the 1st gen 3.0 in a Sierra, it has been a wonderful truck for him over the 75K miles he's had it so far. The I6 engine is so smooth, efficient and torquey and the 10 speed transmission is great. I own a '17 Canyon with the 2.8 diesel and it is quite "reasonable" on DEF, getting around 900+ MPG. On the other hand, the 2.8 runs a metric sh%t ton of EGR to lower NOx emissions. The 2.8's heavy EGR dose really soots up the intake, oil and motor in general unless it is turned off via aftermarket tuning, which we can't do anymore thanks to the EPA. The 2.8's fuel economy goes up about 10% if EGR is turned off via tuning, with all emissions systems still intact. Interestingly, the 3.0 gets about the same fuel economy in a much larger and heavier vehicle as a stock 2.8 does in a much smaller and lighter Colorado or Canyon. How does GM get such good fuel economy from the 3.0? I bet GM lowered the EGR dosing on the 3.0 a lot compared to the 2.8, and as a result the 3.0 has significantly hotter, cleaner and more efficient combustion. The tradeoff is the 3.0 has to run more DEF to deal with the increased NOx output from the hotter / cleaner burn. I prefer the less EGR and more DEF approach, as less EGR leads to a far cleaner engine, less soot burden on the DPF, and better fuel economy while still meeting emissions requirements. Of course the best thing would be no EGR at all and reasonable DEF use to lower NOx to attainable targets in diesels, but the government won't allow that, so people tune them or fully delete the problem prone emissions equipment from their trucks. The overall effect is probably more pollution than we would have if the standards were reasonably attainable to begin with. It is my understanding the ECM on the 3.0 is quite "tune proof" though. I also haven't heard much about the 3.0 having emissions system problems like the older diesels, again this can be explained by it using less EGR. EGR is bad, very bad 😆 Given the emissions constraints it has to operate under, it seems the 3.0 really is the best that can be done, at a cost of more DEF use.
@@grouchosays Exhaust gas recirculation. The purpose of it in both gas and diesel engines is to reduce combustion temperature, which reduces nitrogen oxide output. NOx acts to form "smog".
@@craighoffman6876 you know what you’re talking about. I don’t. I’m a 73 year old guy who wants a ‘25 Yukon. But I am learning about the lifter problem and I’m glad I am because I just don’t want a catastrophe. So I would prefer a V8. But I have been scared away from one. Then I started learning about the Duramax. Sounds like a great engine. But now I am reading about EGR, DEF, stalling, cranking, emissions etc. I truly don’t know what the heck to do. Then I started to look at Nissan Infinity like the luxury model X60 which is luxury Pathfinder as an alternative. You have any advice for a geezer? Thanks
@@grouchosays The problem with the Internet is it tends to make things seem worse than they are. People with issues speak up 😆 As I mentioned in the prior post, I have a friend with the 3.0 diesel in his Silverado, another just bought a Sierra AT4 with the 3.0 as well. The AT4 is still pretty new, but the Sierra guy has pretty good miles on his, a lot of them towing his 5,000 pound trailer. His truck has been flawless and it really is a pleasure to drive and tow with. The 3.0 diesel has got some balls for sure, with lots of low down torque and if ya dig into the pedal it revs hard and really goes. I'm in Colorado and having a turbo is nice due to the elevation. The latest 3.0s have steel pistons, which a sweet upgrade over aluminum. To be honest, trucks with the 3.0 diesel are a bit out of my price range. I mentioned my '17 Canyon with the 2.8 4 cylinder diesel, it has been flawless over 80K miles, but there are lots of reports of emissions and even more serious issues online. I love my truck, but I'd avoid the "red headed stepchild" VM Motori designed 2.8 diesel. It was a great engine until GM bastardized it for America and pushed it out the door with really shitty engine and transmission tuning. My 2.8 is transformed with a Green Diesel Engineering engine and transmission tune package, but there goes the warranty. I'm at 80K miles now so it would be out of 5 year 60K warranty anyway.. I mention all this as GM did a much better job on the 3.0, which they developed in house and obviously put a lot of effort into. Have seen tear down videos of 3.0s with miles on 'em and they are remarkably clean inside. I do wish GM hadn't gone with a belt driven oil pump, and the thermostat system is stupidly complicated and apparently trouble prone on occasion. Other than those two things I really like the 3.0's design, especially the latests "LZ0" with it's steel pistons and other meaningful updates. It does have a 5 year 100K warranty on it. If my Canyon ever has a major engine malfunction I plan to get a nice simple recently refreshed and good enough for my purposes Nissan Frontier with it's naturally aspirated 3.8 V6 in a crew cab long box configuration. Fingers crossed, because I love my Canyon. The low down diesel grunt is nice, it sounds cool and it is averaging 28.2 MPG lifetime on the computer, about 7% optimistic, or a bit over 26 MPG actual, which is still awesome for a 4,500 pound 4 wheel drive truck.
Can you post the location of the ground for your 4x4 issues? Would love to look at mine. After I watched your video I noticed mine doing it out if the blue. Also have issues with my camera system on the fritz. Thank you
First off, this is a nice looking truck! May be too expensive for my taste. People who earn 250K plus a year, it shouldn't be a problem for them. But for myself and my wife being at 115k a year together, these trucks are like trying to buy a brand new E class Mercedes! I was a Chevy/GMC person. But that changed after 2019. GM is having too many issues with these trucks. Very disappointing in their quality and probably they want it that way to keep customers coming back to the service department and trading in early. LOL! Who knows! But we now have a 21' Titan and never, let me say it again, never had an issue in the 22K miles we have on it so far. So take that for what it's worth.
The only way to get these trucks is to wait a few year and get them second hand. Just got my high country a truck I always wanted but couldn’t afford a 70,000 plus. But got it this year at 30,000 at 130,000 km in Canada
Love my little 2023 Dmax. No issues at 22k miles. I've changed to PPE trans pans, PPE oil pan, PPE trans bypass, PPE trans cooler ( temp stays 120 to 155) all fliuds changed to amsoil and BANKS idash. I'm thinking about the intercooler.
You arent kidding about the radio issues. Theyve reprogrammed mine a couple times and several factory resets. Cuts out all the damn time and is super slow
the connector for the exhaust differential sensor connector rh side by the cowl have issues I've had a few trucks with egr problems and all needed a new connector. if you ever pass thru Price come see us at the GM store
I did a few of those early on but since you bring it up, I actually haven't seen any in quite a while ! Will stop by if I have some time in Price! thanks for the comment!
I get around 38 mpg during the summer... i also run hot shot fuel additive... towing 26mpg high way ... average in town 28 ... truck is stock ... mine dont use much def at all ...truck is a 2023 ... very happy with it
I have one of these but am rsti also have 16ki get about 3/5 more miles per gallon while on sport mode.i have went on 350 mile trips with a high as 30.9mpg for the full trip but most the time is almost 29mpg.mine uses a jug of def every 2000 miles
What’s the difference between a max tow package and none. Looking into getting one, mainly towing around a 4 seat Rzr and car hauler around. I live in north Texas OKC area and there’s a little bit of hilly areas. Definitely interested in the 3.0/10speed setup.
@@DemonWorks Doesn't the max tow come with a bigger tranny cooler too and leaf springs and shocks? I wish I could have got the 3.73 gears with my truck but I got an Ultimate so its 3.23 or nothing. Not sure it really matters as much with the 10 speed though.
I've had one issue with mine so far. The left front daytime running lamp has gone out and then my left turn signal will not work. It's happened a couple of times, but both times it fixed itself. You mentioned a loose ground wire on yours...where exactly was that? I'd like to check if mine is loose. Is the ground wire that was loose attached to the front of the engine block on the passenger side?
Wasnt there an update that addressed that issue? I swear on the last update it said there was a bug where there was a DRL and turn signal issue for some users, i didnt have it myself. Although i do have an issue with the audio cutting out and the music time still plays, they still didnt fix that one.
Not aware of any updates for the turn signal issue, but I'll check with the dealer on that. It seems to fix itself by restarting the engine. Had it happen yesterday again. Haven't had the radio issue yet. I hope they get these electronic issues fixed.
The sun definitely reflects off everything in mine. But I'm getting the whole truck, including the windshield tinted in ceramic. I'm hoping that will reduce some of the chrome glare.
Have a 22.5 LTZ 6.2 and really wanted the 3.0, but there were none available at the time (January 2022 )with everything I wanted so I “settled” for the 6.2 cause I worked a decent deal before these rebates became available again. Fuel economy I knew would be terrible but just casual driving I’m averaging 13-14 on a 2 inch level. Texas premium is over $4 and I’m curious as to your thoughts, would you make a move to find a 3.0? NEVER tow but a truck is a must and is our weekend warrior. Just curious on your thoughts. What’s your average tank range?
I’d keep the 6.2 just because the cost to swap will likely be high. I am 550-600 per tank, going off my memory but I show the Fuelly app from my phone in this video and it shows every single time I filled up with the mikeage do you can see exact numbers there.
@@DemonWorks thanks for the feedback, yeah you’re more than likely right about the cost to swap but man is it disheartening when I see the range these get compared to my 250-300 haha. At least she’s quick!
I get about 600 miles per tank with my Denali Ultimate. They have a pretty small tank too think its 22 gallon something like that. When I bought it nearly every truck had the LZ0 on the lot. At least the nicer trim trucks. All the Denali, and AT4 every one of them was an LZ0. The Ultimate I got at the time was the only one I saw online within 100 miles of where I live. They said they had a couple others come in but every other one they had was already spoken for. I saw shortly after the other 2 GMC dealers we have in town had one come in too and one was a 6.2 but they both had I think $10k tacked on to the MSRP so they can keep them. I got mine for $4k under MSRP and that was including sales tax and everything. The one dealer also had a Yukon XL Denali Ultimate I was interested in to replace my 19 Suburban but they wanted $113k for it when the same truck is like $98-100k anywhere else. Its shown on their site for like 3 months now so I guess nobody else is interested in paying $13k more than anybody else is charging for them.
I have a 2023 High Country 3.0 Duramax (LZO)...just hit 20K miles. pulled my first small 18' camper/trailer and was blowing through DEF. Found out it was going to the 65mph warning at half the DEF tank. I would put 1-2 gals in and it would show 7/8 full (never full, even when it just started to spill out the first time I went to fill.) What is the issue? Tech issue? DEF tank indicator (mech.) issue? Just annoying to have to fill 2 gals of DEF every 300-400 miles. Could it be from towing and having in tow haul mode? This is my first Diesel, so I'm not familiar with DEF and issues that can arise from normal driving to towing, etc...Thanks for any ideas, answers and solutions.
Hey I got a 24 just want to make sure your truck pumps at the end when turning it off. I’m new to diesel trucks mine does I’m not sure if it’s supposed to. I’m assuming it’s a def pump.
I will say this. I drive a concrete truck, and obviously not the same, but every time I’m loaded, I’m weighing 85k lbs. I run about 6 loads a day, and use about half a tank of def every 4 days or so. I was impressed to find out the duramax doesn’t need def for 3-4k miles when not towing. To me that’s impresssive. I think it’s all about perception. I would just deal with it. On the bright side, when warranty is gone just get it deleted.
I like most viewers really enjoy and appreciate your candid, honest reviews and value your opinion. So given everything (DEF, MPG, etc etc) if you had the option now would you buy the LM2 or the LZO. Im trying to decide on getting an 2024 Tahoe or now having to wait and hope for a refresh in 2025 (if it comes and if the LZ0 is offered)…..not taking into consideration the annual price creep or jump?
If priced the same, I would take the LZ0 every single time. If a couple thousand difference, would still take the LZ0. If the price difference was $4000+, that's where I would really ahve a hard time deciding. The LZ0 has numerous upgrades for greater durability (it appears, time will tell) but the LM2 was an excellent start for the platform and would not hesitate to own one again.
Have a 2016 Silverado 1500 with wheelchair accessibility conversion Goldwing door lowered floor on passenger side so I don’t expect good fuel mileage the 5.3 L V8 on 2 inch blocks with 35 inch tires and get 13 miles to the gallon lol!
Question: I can’t find this truck with 3.73 gears anywhere in Texas. However, I don’t have a camper and only rent one about every two years. Is it necessary to special order one with the 3.73 gears or would I be fine with the 3.23 gears? I really want the fuel economy of the 3.0 duramax and the 3.23 gives me significantly more options.
I'm looking at used 2021-2022 LM2 to save some money. But is there a big enough difference between the two engines that you would tell someone to just get the new one?
@@DemonWorksthanks for the knowledge. Love learning some new things. Am in the process of purchasing a 21 Sierra with a 3.0 in it and trying to learn as much issues as possible
270 is the highest I have seen (video at some point in time) I also just did a drive where I recorded temps to vegas, then added an additive and recorded temps back (have not looked yet) but thought that would be fun.
Greg, first off, nice work on the videos. I think they help the rest of use owners understand our vehicles better. As I’ve mentioned in previous comments to other videos, I’m not sure why you had to install a larger transmission cooler to get to a higher running temp than my AT4 gets to stock (194), maybe I got lucky? I also regularly get 26+mpg. You and Tim both got the max tow package, what’s the GCWR on your truck? Mine and all other non-max tow trucks I’ve seen have it set at 15,000, no matter the payload, it would seem foolish to have a 12,000lb tow rating and a 15,000lb GCWR. If your GCWR is higher, what options specifically allow the increase? Is it just the rear axle and slightly stiffer rear springs?
Great video, You mentioned that you can put the gear in the transmission o. The IDash ,you can help me how to put it since I can't find it in my IDash or can you make a video about you IDash an setups, Thanks
Very informative. Just a tip while backing. Tilt your side mirrors down so you can see your tires. No more hitting curbs and you can follow parking lines along with using the built in cameras 👍🏼
My guess is that the emission haven't really changed at all over the years. I suspect GM was just making overly optimistic claims initially and they have correct their claims in subsequent years.
I purchased a 23 (new) LZ0 , pretty much the same truck as yours. Iam at 30k miles and have had absolutely zero issues or problems. Don’t know why ur truck is using so much DEF. Mine is a daily driver and use of DEF is not an issue at all. I think I’ve purchased 5 or 6 of those boxes of Walmart DEF since I took delivery. Strange. But seems the opposite of what you’re describing. You said urs was an early build, mine was a late build. Maybe they changed something?
I wouldn’t say a lot of people are using oil, seems to be a couple on the internet… that being says, during break in, yes, but after that I gave not used any. Including while towing.
I have 21 gmc with lm2 I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find a good operating rpm for these trucks. With the 6.6 2500 -3k is pushing it so I try and stay below that in lm2 but it goes up that easy and quickly not trying. What are your thoughts?
I had to remove it from my order to get this truck. I had one of the very early trucks with the LZ0. My dealer was nice enough to keep me informed on what could hold the build up.
Good question, you already have 3 fans on this system, I wouldn't go as far as adding an additional fan as the trans bypass valve is really where the bottle neck is, it opens way late and it flows so little.
I know this is a little off subject, but I know you know about the 3 L diesel. What’s your opinion on the 3 L with steel pistons or aluminum pistons does it matter? I just didn’t know if it really mattered for longevity
I know in gmc they say I can't get the ultimate tow package in an AT4 or Denali because the suspension is different. How is this not the case with the high country? That's the highest trim level for Chevrolet isn't it?
I keep reading these 2 very polarized comments re DEF usage. It's driving me nuts wanting to understand why some sip and some chug, regardless of trim, towing, daily or leadfoot...
Is there a way I can contact you to ask a couple of questions? I saw you're in Herriman... that's where I am. I'm looking at a truck tomorrow or Saturday and I've never owned the diesel. Chat soon!
I have a 2023 LZ0 as well, do you have any issues with oil consumption? I’ve towed a 2500-3000 lbs boat for about 500 miles and oil levels dropped alot. Like all the way and barely showing on the dip stick. And that was for only 5000 miles since I did my first oil change at 5000k.
@@deucevang8980 with my 22 LM2 I saw very little oil consumption the first 5,000 miles, it ate a quart the second 5,000 miles and Im currently at 4,800 miles past the second oil change and it’s still at the top.
4 new trucks in 3 years. You will never encounter any real truck owner issues. You only just break them in at the most before you change them. Not an accurate appraisal of the equipment.
I'm working on another one, you should check it out , before the new truck arrives !

@@robbynelson3but it’s pointless if he’s trying to inform us of the issues of the trucks gone before the problems arise.
True. BUT my takeaway is that even new ones are having major problems.
@grouchosays what major issues? I still am not hearing about any MAJOR issues
Ty!
Good report! Thanks
82,000 miles on mine and loving it too, avg mpg over all combined 25.2, best empty 28.7 on a 400 mile trip..
167k on my 2020 3.0. Love it

I wrapped the trim with glare in headlight tint works great. Great video
Watch and see.
an update just came out no more radio glitch !
Super happy to see the second GEN in-line six killing it and I definitely think it will be my next track. Just traded out my 2010, Silverado 5.3
Sounds like a ground problem, from this , novice

EGR is bad, very bad 😆
Given the emissions constraints it has to operate under, it seems the 3.0 really is the best that can be done, at a cost of more DEF use.
What’s EGR
People with issues speak up 😆
As I mentioned in the prior post, I have a friend with the 3.0 diesel in his Silverado, another just bought a Sierra AT4 with the 3.0 as well.
@@craighoffman6876 Thanks for this thorough report

Awesome to hear about the Titan performing well!
The only way to get these trucks is to wait a few year and get them second hand. Just got my high country a truck I always wanted but couldn’t afford a 70,000 plus. But got it this year at 30,000 at 130,000 km in Canada

What’s the difference between a max tow package and none. Looking into getting one, mainly towing around a 4 seat Rzr and car hauler around. I live in north Texas OKC area and there’s a little bit of hilly areas. Definitely interested in the 3.0/10speed setup.
mainly it's the 3.73 gears vs the 3.23 gears in the regular. I think you will be perfectly fine with either!

Does it get over the air updates for infotainment ?

How does it ride with those lifts compared to non-lifted ?

Mine doesn’t drink def that much. And I find if I leave it off tow haul mode when towing. It doesn’t even drink def then either.
Also how did you program the mirrors to fold? I thought I saw something in the manual about the first time I read it but know I can't find it.
Incredible report! Scares the hell out of me. I’m 73.
Happy to help !
The glare is funny! I keep getting hit by the Duramax emblem.
I thought the multi purpose tailgate was dumb till i got my 2021 gmc
@@kaivonmortazavi8656 what did you decide to do? I’m wanting a Tahoe/Yukon but can’t risk V8 cause of lifter problems. So I’m thinking of ‘25 LZ0
Have a 2016 Silverado 1500 with wheelchair accessibility conversion Goldwing door lowered floor on passenger side so I don’t expect good fuel mileage
the 5.3 L V8 on 2 inch blocks with 35 inch tires and get 13 miles to the gallon lol!
How is the oil consumption on your truck? I have a 2023 High Country same as yours and mine it is consuming 2 quarts of oil in 5000 miles.
none... 20k miles in.

What kind is your floor Mat ?
I'm looking at used 2021-2022 LM2 to save some money. But is there a big enough difference between the two engines that you would tell someone to just get the new one?
Get the LM2 if it's cheap enough !
@@DemonWorks Thanks!
Very informative. Thanks
Thank you !
The 23 with the LZ motor has more power thus producing more exhaust gases requiring more def or am I wrong?
different emissions strategy and different emissions in the exhaust with double the DEF injectors.
@@DemonWorksthanks for the knowledge. Love learning some new things. Am in the process of purchasing a 21 Sierra with a 3.0 in it and trying to learn as much issues as possible
Put carbon fiber overlay on that silver strop on the console. I've been debating on it too for my '24.
What sort of engine temps have you seen towing?
I hit EOT 293 F towing over Donner pass in July with LM2.
Following ... Errr, maybe I'll copy/paste to try for an answer. Great GCWR question..
My friend has the newer truck with the tailgate without a mechanized opener. It freezes in the winter and he can't open it.
I had that on my previous truck and didn't have the same issue. That sucks for his :-(
love the editor lol
It was an early build, however it got replaced with a 25 ZR2 that uses even more def.
What was that mileage app you used?
Fuelly
Awesome thank you
If I’m not mistaken Gm trucks with the usb tail pipes have the off-road package which isn’t available with the max tow package.
There are many options with the bumper exhaust.
Mine is same as yours. Started leaking transmission fluid at 500 miles. Pretty upset.
leaking from the trans cooler lines?
@@DemonWorks I think it's the propeller shaft front slip yoke. There is a service bulletin out on it. Dealer said week to get the part.
Also mine is LT trim 2wd.
Ummm... are all of those DTCs going to get a follow-up video?!?
Currently they are not showing on my dash, so I’m not going to dive into them until they become an issue.
My 2020 Rebel diesel on 33” tires gets 28mpg highway 22 around town.
That's some great mileage!
A lot of people with this engine say they use a lot of oil between changes. Does yours ?
I wouldn’t say a lot of people are using oil, seems to be a couple on the internet… that being says, during break in, yes, but after that I gave not used any. Including while towing.
I have 21 gmc with lm2 I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find a good operating rpm for these trucks. With the 6.6 2500 -3k is pushing it so I try and stay below that in lm2 but it goes up that easy and quickly not trying. What are your thoughts?
Peak torque is at 2750 RPM. This is a higher RPM engine than a 6.6. Optimum RPM for a diesel is always peak torque. So 2750 RPM.
Why don’t you have the drop down tailgate 🤔
I had to remove it from my order to get this truck. I had one of the very early trucks with the LZ0. My dealer was nice enough to keep me informed on what could hold the build up.
This may be a dumb question but any reason to replace the trans cooler instead of adding an electric fan with a temp switch?
Good question, you already have 3 fans on this system, I wouldn't go as far as adding an additional fan as the trans bypass valve is really where the bottle neck is, it opens way late and it flows so little.
I know this is a little off subject, but I know you know about the 3 L diesel. What’s your opinion on the 3 L with steel pistons or aluminum pistons does it matter? I just didn’t know if it really mattered for longevity
@@christopherbrooks3321 I think LZ0 has steel. Not sure
Great informative video👍🏼👍🏼
I know in gmc they say I can't get the ultimate tow package in an AT4 or Denali because the suspension is different. How is this not the case with the high country? That's the highest trim level for Chevrolet isn't it?
Does all the ppe stuff void the warranty?
@@MasonMilne-b6m has to!
No it doesn't. I have ALL PPE upgrades. I didn't touch the performance, just better than factory parts
I've used roughly 2/3 of the DEF tank for 5,100 miles.
I keep reading these 2 very polarized comments re DEF usage. It's driving me nuts wanting to understand why some sip and some chug, regardless of trim, towing, daily or leadfoot...
Think gm just came out with an updated thermal bypass valve that may drop trans temp.
I like the sound of that, i am unaware. What makes you think they came out with an updated bypass valve?
@@DemonWorks work at gm dealership

Anybody who has the LZ zero are you concerned about the oil pump belt replacement on the 3.0 Duramax for 2023 and on? Thoughts?
It's due at 200,000 miles and has shown zero failures. There should be no worry at all. Definitely, not the first engine to use an oil pump belt.
Nope, I'm putting money away now for it. It's 200k for the 2023 LZO

Have not heard of 1, I am hearing more about timing chain issues though.

No oil consumption issues for me. It used oil during break in but that’s it.
