- Hello everyone,
I wanted to show you more of the footage from before and after of this beautiful place. We are truly worried about the safety of the people on the island, they need help. It is the worst feeling to be sitting here not knowing if our new friends are okay. As soon as we have to chance we want to head back down there to help in anyway we can.
I wanted to give a big shout out to all the amazing people that have offered there help and I promise I will get back to you shortly. We currently have an amazing fellow helping us in Puerto Rico by allowing us to stay on his boat. Thank you for all the support thus far!
Would you like to make a onetime donation to help support mischief clink on the link provide!

So sorry for your loss. Remember the boat can be replaced. Glad you guys are safe.
hoping insurance covers it. moreso i hope they heard from the people they lost contact with
I can't imagine losing your home to the storm. I have been praying for you two. I love you both and will continue to lift you up. May God show you the path he has in store for you and Bless you.
Thanks for documenting your experiences aboard Mischief and through Irma. I am sure your lives are forever changed. Glad you survived and remember a boat can be replaced; your lives cannot be replaced.
Thank you for sharing your story and the update today. I wish you both the best of luck.
I can't believe the tremdeous amount of class and maturity you guys are showing during what I can only imagine as the worst possible time in your young lives. I'm sure eveyone is keeping you in their thoughts and prayers. It was so unselfish of you to ask for support for the islands and not yourselves. Just another demostration of what good people you are. I wish I was a millionaire, so that I could make you whole again by buying you another boat to continue on, but I'm sorry to say I'm not. Keep perserving during this tuff time, God must surely have something great instore for you! God Bless! and I'm so glad you are both safe!!!
I've watched this several times and choke up every time. I very much respect the quality of the work you did with Mischief - both on that boat and the videos. As others have said, don't let the critics get you down. You were out there, trying your best to find a higher quality of life, and sharing those dreams with others. I sincerely hope you don't let this stop you. Think ten years out and the memories of Mischief and the lessons you will have learned through this loss. Come back strong, you two.
I have never lost a boat to the elements - it must be bloomin horrible. You have my sympathy. You two are some of the more thoughtful bloggers sailing this remarkable part of the world. Thanks for putting this film together. You did an excellent job of filming a bad event.
Heartbreaking. All of it. Thanks for sharing what the islands are going through, and so sorry for your loss.
Good luck getting back on your feet. Be well...
You are smart people and we are sailors, nothing will stop us. With love from Brazil.
so sorry to here about the mischief, but we are all glad you guys are ok
so sorry for your loss and very happy to see that you are safe boat can be replaced all the love to you wish you all the best
wow, i have no words, im just glad that you 3 made it out safe. the boat can be replaced loved ones can not.
Peace! So sorry for you guys... and all that have lost so much. Thank you for being there and showing the world what has happened to the Islands, and your plea for help. You guys are awesome. Peace and Love
What a lovely couple. I'm so sorry for your loss. Our country of Trinidad and Tobago open our arms and hearts to you.
What an experience. First I am thankful you guys are OK. Cat 5 Hurricane is like a F4 tornado. Cat 5 is 500 times stronger than a Cat 1. I know you guys are stronger than Irma. I went through her in Tampa/New Port Richey. It was bad but nothing like this. God Bless.
My prayers and thankfulness that you are well. You have each other and a future. Your loss is only stuff, and I can see your grief is as much for the loss around you as your own. God Bless you and continue to watch out for you. Keep making these videos so others can see Love and kindness in a time of diversion and hate.
Heartbreaking. Sorry for your loss.
so hard to lose a boat that is your home. i appreciate the story from ground zero, thank you. i'm sure you two will be on the water again...God speed.
I can't even imagine what you all must be going through. My heart breaks just watching your video. It would truly be devastating to lose everything like you have. Sending thoughts and prayers from Green Bay Wisconsin....from one sailor to another, may you find a way to get your lives back on track, may the islands once again flourish, and here's to staying strong as everyone rebuilds.
So very sorry for your loss. Sending you good vibes for whatever is next for you...
Sorry to hear about the sad outcome . I can feel you as living on a boat is a dream that I will never get... I’m crying for you.
THANK YOU for documenting this. I'm a sailor and i really appreciate seeing your story. Good luck and God bless.
dont let these turkeys get you down , your young , good luck for the future
We feel so sorry for you guys, we were so happy to follow your adventures! We send you much love from Malaysia and you both are more than welcome to spend some time here whenever you feel like!
absolutely a living nightmare. so so tragic. so sorry for the loss of your beloved boat and home. i hope your friends were found or will be found safe and well.
I'm so sorry for what you two and everyone else has been through,
So much devastation. I wish you
The best, God bless everyone❤❤❤!!!
I am so sorry for your loss and know exactly how you feel. Our boat was stored in Virgin Gorda BVI, and I believe she is also gone. There are no words, the devastation is overwhelming but you guys are ok and that is what counts. Take care and best of luck to you both
I've been lucky enough to visit St. Maarten a few times. The people there are tremendous. This is heartbreaking.
Take care guys, simply can't imagine!!! thanks for sharing the footage - hopefully out of adversity comes opportunity
We're so sorry for the loss of mischief. Losing your home and dream would be devastating. Here's looking forward to brighter days in the future.
Amazing to see Maho beach just gone! Very sorry for the loss of your boat/home. I hope you made it out of Puerto Rico before "Maria" hit.
I was there, lost my boat, n now to start all over again. Love SXM n will probably go back .
Good luck n god bless. But don't give up.
I am sorry this happened to you. Wish you the best in the future, from a fellow Floridian.
My condolences on the loss of your fine vessel. I know first hand that it is like losing a family member.
I am so sorry this happened to you guys I remember all the effort you guys put down...There is always a new tomorrow...you will rise from this.....
Heartbreaking. I wish you guys the best.
Hard to click "like" on this but I did to help promote your channel for the future. Good luck guys!
So sorry to see your boat gone. Best of luck.
Sorry for you loss. It is heartbreaking for all concerned.
So sorry to hear that you lost the boat. We have been out of internet and phone range for awhile, and have been interested in learning as much as possible about the situation down there (Robi's family is St Martin french side). Seeing this from the point of view of fellow sailors has been informative, but very sad to watch the loss of your home. :(
May God bless and protect and get you through any problems that come your way
My heart goes out to you guys. This is some of the best/worst footage I've seen coming out of Irma's massive wake. Very personal. I'm so glad you guys are ok and trying to take it in stride. I know you are devastated by "more adventure" than you bargained for.
To the crusty commenters that talk about how stupid it was to not take the warnings and split. 1. This is Monday morning and I'm sure you would have called for that perfect play during the game. 2. Obviously, leaving was the right decision we know now, but you don't know what all their particular variables were, like boat speed and timing. As new sailors getting caught out in a partial storm like this on their boat could have been death. I'm sure it was a lesson learned. I know I made some bad decisions in my twenties and why I am a voracious reader and watcher of all things sailing before I buy my boat and set off to cruise. They know they could have done things differently, but they didn't. So stop harping on the bad decision. It anything this video can serve to help many others through the years make more prudent decisions with hurricane season and the islands.
Keep at the vids and pitch in to help and I'm sure you will spring back even stronger with a better/ faster boat. Fair winds...
Strength and courage! straight from Brazil
It breaks my heart to see my island like this so many bad memories of Irma , but we are getting back on our feet.
Am sorry for you home .
How very tragic! You got to see Irma at full force (CAT 5)and it must have been terrifying! We here in St Augustine got the CAT 1.5 version of Irma which was bad enough as there are sailboats also sunk in our marinas. I hope you are able to get back to sailing with a new boat some time in the future.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Oh my god I remember the sunset having drinks and watching those riding the fence it was funny but, this is incredible. USVI, Puerto Rico also devastated. My god. How can the Net community help?
I wish that I have money to get you guys a new sailing boat and help the people in the islands! Is hart breaking to see those images! Now be strong cause everything is going to be all right!
Thank you for sharing your video with the world. Unless people are friends with locals on Facebook etc. their access to videos are limited. Though communications networks are coming back online. Images and video clarify what people are going through much more directly than any audio and news articles ever can. I was disgusted by some of the comments I read on other videos but I knew that it was simply because the commentators had never been through anything like that. I'm sorry for your loss; the boat. Just remember that life is the most important thing. I experienced hurricane Luis in 1995 as a 9 year old and up until now that has been the legendary storm, the "yardstick" so to speak. Everyone even seasoned survivors were admittedly unprepared for what happened despite their knowledge, experience and subsequent preparations. Stay strong. God Bless you folks.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I'm very sorry for you guys....hope you get over this soon
Oh man, I had no idea u were in the middle of this. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your home and personal property and glad that you survived the storm without significant harm.
My heart is with u both and hope that u find a new place to live with new and brighter adventures. bd
Our prayers are with you and those impacted by H Irma. Can you do a video on lessons learned from this experience and advice you would give to everyone who get inspired from your videos?
Sailing Mischief
Sorry for the loss but remember it's just a boat, you guys did the right thing to protect yourselves and not risk everything for a boat, you must realize that. We agree that the islands need help, your video makes a good case but does not offer suggestions on how anyone can provide the much needed relief. May I suggest posting one more video detailing the avenues for people to donate and assist the islands. Also, lets all pray that these storms in the Atlantic stay away from the Caribbean.

may just be a boat but as a non rich boat owner it takes a looong time and lots of saving over months to get a boat to how you want it. its more than an object like a car is
John Cusick, yes we do understand, as "non rich boat owners" ourselves. That being said, no material object is worth your life no matter how difficult it is to acquire. We do send our best to all affected by Irma and Maria.
Love
Jerrod and Holly
I'm so sorry for what you all have lost. And now Marie! 🙁🙁
Truly sorry that you got caught up in that one ! God bless you
Hey Ariana, Hey Christian...
Very hard to watch the images, very hard to see you guys in such a desperate situation... We have been thinking a lot about you guys with Thais and communicate a lot with Dan & Kika! We wish you the best for the future, hopefully seeing you on the water very soon! Don't let it go!!!
Many ppl lost it all, many sailors friends I have around the Caribbean it's very hard even for me to find the words, but just wanted to let you know that I really believe we will see each other on the water soon anyway!
We are about to fly to France for boat shows but we would love to see you and get to know about your future plans when you make it back to Miami.
Stay Strong my friend, and lets sail together very soon!
Thais & Kevin From Martinique.
No matter what the world will throw at us; we will survive, rebuild, move on and be stronger. Even though it's hard, hope we can all pitch in and help.
So sorry you lost your boat, we lost ours when Hurricane Luis hit sxm in 1995.
So so sorry! Omg! This really puts clarity on how bad this is. I knew is was bad . But all the way in Virginia Beach it's hard to REALLY know. St. Marten is not an Island I have visited but do hope to. Hugs guys 😢❤🌺
So sorry for your lost, but boats can be replaced, life's can't, hopefully you were insured, we also lost are boat to Irma, she was a beautiful 44 foot Privilege Catamaran, we had to evacuate Pig Pine Key, we went to Nashville, had to leave the boat behind, are friend sent us pictures of the devastation, it brought us to tears, so many wonderful memories on that boat, my wife is a Nashville recording artist, her initials are KB, she wrote her first # 1 hit on that boat, she's really taking it hard, but we are fully insured, so life goes on and we well find a replacement.
I'm sorry for you... my heart goes out!
What a terrible thing to have experience. Hope the island recovers quickly.
So So Sorry for your loss and all affected by this monster of a storm. Not a whole lot a person can do with a storm this size and it built to cat5 so fast. Anyone trying to get away from it could really risk there lives as you never know where they are going for sure. You were faced with a bad situation with a small boat. Did the best you could and lost. So get back on your feet and learn from it. Just lucky you were on a bigger island with hotel with cement walls and walked away with your lives. Our home in Tampa had no damage, but we always prepare for bad news. I have been a captain for 11 years now and sailed through monster winds so high , my wife about divorced me. I play it much safer now at 56 as I am much wiser. Good luck to you to, and God bless.
I am so very very sorry. what charity or helpful group would you think would help the most? Peace and prayers to you. You will rise ❤️
Where you guys able to get out of Puerto Rico before Maria hit? Praying for your safety!
Prayers from Florida 🙏🙏🙏
I came here for the trolls, wasn't disappointed... Amazing footage though - Wild how much destruction Irma packed.
This is so sad for everyone. I spy Mauna Kea there next to you too. So gutted for our friends Ken and Laurie. There are some great people out there who have lost so much. I hope you all manage to get back on your feet somehow.
I'll be sailing up through the islands from Trinidad starting next month. If anyone knows of an organisation I can contact in regards to carrying out voluntary work to help rebuild the communities please let me know.
God bless. And now Maria. Stay strong,.
Glad you are ok . We spent s few months anchored next to Pretty Woman and jab Jabs. Feeling awful for you all. Come to St.. Croix and make it your home base. We will take care of you. Find me at Sailing SoBlessd on Facebook . Sorry for your loss. You will recover and flourish
I'm so glad that you didn't stay on your boat and I'm sorry for your loss. My heart is breaking for the people of St Maarten. My family and I visited in 2010 and we fell in love with the island and the people. While there, two St Maarten residents who worked at a beach bar helped save my daughters' lives when they were swept into the ocean by rogue waves. I want and need to give back at this time. I am struggling to find a way to donate that will go specifically to St Maarten for immediate, life-saving needs: food, water, shelter, medical care. Please let me know if you can point me in the right direction. This is to anyone reading this.
This is a horrible situation for everyone it impacted. Just awful.
So sad but you made it out alive!
If you're trying to get back to the States, get a hold of Bobby from Sailing Doodles. His boat the Ruff Seas is in San Juan Puerto Rico. It's for sale. He was talking about bringing her back to the States. Maybe you guys could sail it back for a fee. Make a little $.
Good luck with whatever you do. Stay safe.
Chris Wolowicz hope they passed on the ruff seas. Looks like bobs boat is going to take a cat 4 hit for sure maybe 5 from maria. Also these poor kids are about to go through a second cat 4 or 5. Hows that for a learning curve. Maybe they got off the island already. If not hunker down stay safe.
Yeah, Ruff Seas is about to experience some ruffness, and not a boat I would suggest for them. Hope they got out of PR.
We know the feeling. We had katrina. My heart goes out to all. Our family has been following the videos which don't show all. Our hearts are with you all! Love to you all. We will be ok! It doesn't look like it now but IT will be ok! Life is more important than things! Hug those around you and know that you can rebuild things but not lives!
Life’s a Reach, an then you jib. You’re young, and getting smarter every day. Building character it’s called. Peace.
MAHO beach NOT MOHO :(
I was also there in SXM during Irma. We hunkered down opposite Sonesta. It was truly a terrible experience
I am not trying to pass judgement in any way, I am indeed so sorry for your loss, but I want to ask as I have seen so many boats torn up by the storms this year and I wonder why when you know a bad one is coming, why not take to the sea and get out of harms way. I have seen so many boats and ships even that could have been saved just by getting out of the area and to me it is such a shame to let these things of beauty and utility to just sit and be destroyed...I know you can't answer for all boat owners and yes I am ignorant for sure, but I still would like to understand a little better, your boat was a real thing of beauty and I feel your loss...
And then came Maria to Puerto Rico. Hope you survived that one.
Stay in or south of the St.Vincent and the Grenadines during hurricane season if you ever get another boat ! South of 12°north latitude ! Hey, Panama would have been less expensive and have anything you need to fix the boat ! Even the San Blas islands would have been nice to hang out for 3-4 months ! Veggie boat comes by every week right up to your boat and you would get tired of eating lobster !
Speechless.
God bless. Its been a bad year for the caribbean with monster hurricanes
I'm really sorry to see this outcome for you guys. Hopefully you can get your insurance to cover you, but I know named storms can be hard to cover.
it looks like u all packing to move👀 live small and be happy 😀
Guys I'm so sorry for your loss. If your boat was your only home you are more than welcome to come to Costa Rica and stay in my apartment. Its small but we can work it out. Be strong, stay strong. Pura vida.
So Sorry you lost your boat. Also sorry about the troll.
Was that your boat just showing the mast etc ,
I don't know what you both are going through. I am so sorry for you both. As to the negative comments: it's not good to kick someone when they are down. I have made plenty of mistakes in my life. Thank God he has forgiven me. Be safe. Your boat can be replaced. God bless you both. I will continue to pray for all the countries and Houston who were devastated. I have noticed by these you tube videos that people tend to stick together at these times of disaster. Please look to God at this difficult time. He has not deserted anyone.
Uh, working for living here. You can't imagine my feelings watching your video. Feeling sorry for you is not one of them.
7:27 that poor Cessna. Completely trashed. I didn't even think about the local FBO's.
How utterly sad!! Did you guys had insurance on your boat? I sure hope you guys did🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
At least you guys are alive🙌🏻🤣
You gotta do it like Slick Rick Moore. The guy avoids storms like out of control fires . I dont know your situation but if not having the boat is a problem you should gotten the F#@K OUT of there to the south islands. But maybe this is how we all learn... you know you 'll never leave a boat to die like that again. Good luck to you guys!
In 180 mph winds, I would use 10 times that number or ropes to try to hold the boat in place. Of course, that won't stop other boats from becoming airborne and smashing into YOUR boat at 100+ mph.
Here is something to think about: Your boat is not actually 'gone', it has simply SUNK where it was. You can hire a salvage barge (with a large crane on it) to lift your sunken boat up off the ocean floor. But that will take a lot of money.
thank goodness for good insurance eh? perhaps if you would have had black fenders on both sides to balance the load....
Hello. ARE YOU GUYS ALRIGHT? Haven't received any notifications from you at all. Please let us know where you are.
You kids with what you know did good you prepped the boat right and if it were a 3 or 4 you'd been okay. But that was a storm nobody could hide from People with far greater knowledge lost too whole fleets are gone all you can do is rebuild. It's maddening it's been over a week I haven't heard form any of my friends on the smaller Islands like Cooper or Jost you just sit and worry. So I sit here waiting for a window to get down there and see what I can do the room on the boat set aside for beach balls and lawn chairs are now filled with carpenter tools. Good luck you will recover.
God bless you
Sorry for the loss of your boat but what were you doing that far north in the islands during hurricane season? If you needed engine work, Trinidad would have been a much safer option. The Simpson Bay Lagoon has been trashed many times by hurricanes with loss of many boats and several cruisers lives.
I am glad you survived. Hopefully I will be able to help with the clean up. May God help all those affected by the hurricane. Heaven is way better than earth anyway. Jesus Christ is the only way there.
Thank you for the footage.
