This conversation between Eliot Weinberger and Gary Snyder, part of a collaboration between 92Y’s Unterberg Poetry Center and The Paris Review, was recorded live at 92Y on October 26, 1992. We are able to share this recording thanks to a generous gift in memory of Christopher Lightfoot Walker, longtime friend of the Poetry Center and The Paris Review. Here is an excerpt from the full interview that ran in The Paris Review as The Art of Poetry No. 74 in the winter of 1996. Read more:

This is an absolute must listen to interview. Snyder is clear, insightful, informative, and funny. Loved the line from W.C. Fields. One of the best Snyder recordings on RUclips.

beautiful talk. I greatly admire both men. I agree with Snyder when he opines that thought is born before (/beyond?) language. Among few poets of our time who have preserved spirit to the art of poetry

"no one stays in the one place any more." industries cease, move. places fade. yes. in big cities atomisation of work places helps. dont want to cause paranoia but if we can work this out there must be others not so benign, this has been quietly at first going on since 70s. ?
