  • Recently bought a 1992 John Deere F932 mower in dire need of repair. I have always wanted one of these mowers, which is the same one George Jones drove in the music video Honky Tonk Song. This is an intro to a rebuild video series, getting this neglected mower into mowing condition once more.

I used to wear the "George Jones on a mower" T-shirt when I worked for Google. . .one day I was spotted in the hallway by one of the two founders of Google(Sergei Brinn). The look he gave me will stay in my mind till I die. It was epic.
Anyways, killer deal for $200, looks like a good solid machine.

Score for 200! Have a F935 (same as yours but diesel and some differences in thehyd system) with a 72" decl. Used it for years mowing 5 to 10 acres every week and snow blowing in the winter. Bought it with 700 hrs, now over 3000 hrs retired just for snow work. Does a great job with the 48 inch 2 stage blower. Heated cab is nice as well, warm and cozy! Now mowing same are with a cherry 1445 4x4 72" deck. Great machine. Picked it up with a little over 200hrs on it, pretty good for a 14yo tractor! Now put around 100hrs a year on it, damn good machine.

@ganoncollins1 I'm glad to hear these older machines are still putting in work! Nice rig. I have practically rebuilt my machine by now, it's been a long project.

And had similar problems with the pto bearing. Front bearing went bad, easy fix, and the rear mount was a mess, but easy to remake and get her back on the road.

@ganoncollins1 I ended up doing a whole PTO Rebuild, with an improved tensioner and pulley. I made a video about that. What a problematic design.

You got it driving. If nothing else, it would be good for liquor store runs. Enjoyed the video, and good luck to you.

One of the first things I do when I acquire a small tractor or mower, I bypass that seat safety switch. I find those to be a real nuisance. I leave all the other safety switches intact. that should not be done but I can stop the forward travel, get off the machine, get rid of an obstacle in the way, and keep on going. Some will say that's not safe but it is also a big hassle.

In 4:50 you try to move - but seems like parking brake leaver in steering column are in position where it should be when you park... - meaning - engaged to fix parking brake position.

Seems like - problem F or BW stalling are caused by some safety swiths - check Parking Brake switch

11:08 i have had some success drilling a line of several small holes into an aluminum piece like that bracket , and filling with penetrant . might help if you run into a similar situation again .
