  • Erik Anders Lang dives into the mind of “The Golf Ball Hunter,” Glenn Berger, based out of Fort Myers, Florida. He is a professional golf ball diver who has built a business selling up to 2 million golf balls a year. Little do people know, the reusable golf ball business is a $200 million dollar industry. Follow along as The Golf Ball Hunter gives us a real insight into the job, the sorting process and even unexpected, every day dangers.

Knew a guy who used to dive for golf balls in Austin, TX. Some of his stories were legendary. My favorite was when he was diving for balls at night, and when he got to his car it was gone (found out later it was towed). This was before cell phones. He walked 8 miles down the highway to get home. Wearing his tank and flippers. He also had a habit of taking the balls to a laundromat and filling 2-3 washing machines with golf balls to clean them. Naturally the owner didn't appreciate it very much. A few years later I bought that same laundromat, and sure enough eventually caught him trying to do this. Crazy dude. He was also a plus handicap, and would show up to the course after mowing lawns with a canvas bag with 5-6 clubs, all vintage. And he would should under par and take everyone's money. He was a legend.

Saw a documentary on some kids game that started on a farm fairs become a professional sport and people run comps getting payed or playing the games, throwing horse shoes or sth and call themselves professional horse shoe throws.
