  • Recent news regarding Max Verstappen moving to Mercedes took the F1 world by surprise. Max Verstappen is currently dominating the sport with Red Bull, and a move to their rivals seemed impossible. But with the future of Helmut Marko in Red Bull looking uncertain, Verstappen made his support for Marko clear, and suggested the firing of Helmut Marko could also see him depart the team. This news has stolen the headlines in Formula 1, and is regarded by many as Red Bulls Meltdown. Enjoy!

I wouldn't be surprised if DTS doesn't cover this at all, actually - or maybe they'll mention it briefly without underlining the gravity of the situation. I have a feeling that the show is allowed behind-the-scenes access only bc the teams/FIA screen the content for anything that could 'bring the sport into disrepute' or otherwise cause a higher-up any embarrassment. They didn't even cover Perez's struggle to hold onto 2nd place in the championship, unfortunately.

With how weird things are getting, it just feels like so many people are pulling strings behind the scenes whether it's Jos, Red Bull management in Austria, Red Bull management in Thailand, etc. It ballooned from a disgruntled employee into now being the one thing that could put Red Bull 2026 in trouble. I won't be surprised if the disgruntled employee and their peers are also in on this. If there's one thing I know about allegations that gets dismissed is that the first time they're dismissed isn't the end of things, it's just the start of something worse. Someone would do whatever it takes, even if it means bending the rules and playing dirty, if they really want to get rid of someone. Even if it means leaking confidential documents to the press and F1 or escalating things to FOM, anything is fair game if you really want to get rid of a person. I'm not saying they're the ones that leaked those files, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that's what happened.
I won't be surprised if all this power struggle started when Dietrich passed away. Maybe that common desire for motorsport and close relationship between Red Bull management (Dietrich) and Red Bull F1 (Christian and Helmut) was one of the few things keeping things together. Worst case is that Red Bull could loose Helmut and Max to maybe Mercedes, Adrian could follow Max and Helmut to Mercedes or go to Ferrari, and then Christian maybe ultimately could be pushed to leave as well (just outright sacked if Red Bull management get fed up). So in just one year, Red Bull would loose all the ring leaders that were key to where they are now.

If Max does leave there is a little bit of sporting sense to it.
2026 is bringing back engine development and Red Bull are gambling that Ford are going to come in and compete with Mercedes and Ferrari - thats unlikely to happen - remember when Honda returned with McLaren!
Sure Red Bull will win this year easily and are red hot favourites for 2025 but Maybe Max is prepared to take a downgrade for 2025 in order to be have the most dominant engine for 2026/27/28

They ended Mercedes domination, started dominating… At the dawn of the 4th championship, this happens. This is so stupid. What was the thing they didn’t have or couldn’t share that pushed these guys into this fight? Does this shit show worth it? Don’t they any fidelity for each other after working together all those years to dominate?
Marko, Horner, Verstappen…Winner of this fight is already lost.

One thing that I think everyone forgets is that Max on his own is not very special. The reason is that we don’t know how he will perform in a Mercedes that wasn’t built up for him over generations upon generations of cars. He might slouch.

I think the vast majority of the headlines are bullshit speculation, especially after what was said about Horner. I read the entire message and photo dump and there’s nothing remotely actionable there, and the woman was completely willing participant. I think some people will do anything to damage a team that is so far ahead of the rest, but that doesn’t make it all true. Probably little to nothing we’re hearing is true.

i doubt max will want to go, and i doubt he wants any of the other main pillars go either (jos, helmut, horner, himself). so im guessing this will blow over with max holding it all together in the end. the interview about helmut marko really didnt say what the title said, max specifically mentioned being loyal to red bull in the same breath as being loyal to helmut and max and previously said to be loyal to horner too.

*Here´s my take:* I think Redbull Austria are trying to get full control from Thai RB and they didn´t like that Christian Horner was firmly in their camp. So they come up with a plan with Marko and Jos to get rid of Horner, plan fails miserably and RB Austria realises they´ve made a massive mistake. So they back up and tell Marko he is basically on the chopping block for this and if Max wants to go with him then so be it. This is why I think Max is still supporting Marko because in Max´s eyes it probably looks like Marko has been taken for a ride. But the reality is, if Max sides with Marko it will be the end of his championship run and plus Marko and Jos are not innocent here, or it least it looks like it. This whole plan to get rid of Horner hinged entirely on Jos´s GF who use to be PA for Horner, he probably thought this was gonna be a slam dunk case but now it´s about to get thrown back in his face.

And finally we can understand what Lauda really meant when said "any monkey can drive a modern F1 one car". Jos are having an active role to destroy the team that made Max a champion and Max is showing that the "only" thing he is able to do is driving.
