    Great video Steve. Thanks for taking the time to create such a comprehensive comparison between so many architectures and price points.
    The G4560 is a great little chip and a solid choice for someone on a budget, offering similar performance to the i5 2500k at $70 is nothing to sneeze at. Also worth noting, the G4560 is a Kaby Lake CPU and therefore supports intel's Optane tech if paired with a 200 series board. Going the optane route could allow SSD like performance in the budget (gaming) segment. Also worth noting that for less demanding ESports titles and older games, the integrated graphics should offer playable performance at reduced settings/resolutions. In many cases, modern iGPUs outperform the likes of a Radeon HD 2600 both in raw FPS and feature support. Even my ultra budget HTPC based on a Celeron N3150 manages playable FPS (30+) in games like Tomb Raider (2013) on the lowest settings @720p. For games like Mass Effect 1/2 and older I would imagine the G4560's iGPU would be passable.
    Keep up the great work GN!

    • @jonasga

      1700 isn't really cannibalizing the X models. 1700 is the volume mover product, this is what most of the wafers get cut into because they know that's what people want to buy. The X models are just a small cut from the top of the bin with a premium price tag to try and squeeze a few more dollars out of each wafer. In the case of G4560 vs i3 right now, Intel is undercutting themselves by half on an entire product tier. It's a more odd situation.

    I think it's about time intel makes the i3 a budget quad core instead. The i3 is getting a bit pricey for a dual core, especially since the new pentium can easily match it.

    Now what if you threw that chip on one of those non K overclocking boards? those boards seem slightly hard to find, but with that then this is now a i3 7350K competitor at under half the price.

    I have this one, it is still performing very well for me. Only downside is that I like to build PCs but I don't have a reason to upgrade yet. Also seeing how power hungry the 12th gen of Intel's CPUs are, I'm not looking forward to near future.
    The only troubles I had with G4560 are speed of AVI to MKV conversion and 8K youtube playback, none of which I do regurarly.

    just a question : are higher settings important for an cpu? What i mean is : if i have 90% useage on my cpu when the game is one the lowest settings, is there going to be a higher usage when i am playing on ultra?

    • @ignasanchezl
      @ignasanchezl 7 лет назад +1

      Totally dependant on what settings you use. Some drag the CPu some don't.
      Most of the time higher settings will give you lower FPS, in some games this will reduce the CPU load.

    • @kopfauftischhau216
      @kopfauftischhau216 7 лет назад

      i knwo this, but i mean the situation when i would lock the fps at something like 60 or 144 and would change the settings ( and not running into a grafic card bottleneck), would settings like MSAA or texture deatails increase the cpu usage?

    • @mrgoodgamesgaming3462
      @mrgoodgamesgaming3462 7 лет назад +2

      Mr Objection your CPU does not render frames, your GPU renders frames. The CPU gives the frame to the GPU, and the GPU renders the frame, then gives it to the monitor.

      XD good one. But to be completely serious, I gotta say, I really doubt some of Intel's decisions lately, or rather, the past year or two. Though I lean more to the AMD side, both are good products. Just seems to me though, that Intel REALLY needs to step up their game. Perhaps they are, but it could still be a while to release.

      Not sure how that's fanboying unless I'm a fanboy of economics. Got all of it for $130 CAD less than I could have gotten the cheapest 16GB Ryzen build; including getting that Z270 board for only $10 more than the cheapest B350 board.
      Good deals are good deals, we all know Ryzen is a good deal, but we also all know that Intel will adjust strategy to deal with it. As mentioned in the video this is the cheapest gaming setup you can buy and leaves the upgrade path open to the best gaming setup you can buy (currently 7700K, with rumors of it being the 8700K, or whatever name top coffeelake gets, eventually). Ryzen is neither of those. It's the best all-rounder you can buy and also has an awesome upgrade path; I know I have an R5 1600; It's great but a reasonable starter build for it is $250-$300 more than the G4560.

    I think Intel needs to rethink their product stack. G4560 is a great $70 product, but how do they think there's still room in the market for dual cores in the i3 price range? Obviously they know there isn't because the G4560 is literally exactly what they've been selling and continue to sell as the i3 for twice the price, but I don't think they did themselves any favors by not just aggressively price cutting the i3. The G4560 could have just been name the i3 7050 and it would be instantly recognized as what it is supposed to be. Someone who doesn't follow the product stack might pass over something Pentium branded since they've used this branding as their granny's web browser shit chips for the last 10 years. The 7350K should be 7100's current price, and the 7100 should only be like $5-$10 more than the G4560.

      Well, they probably just hope that people buy the i3's out of habit and ignore the Pentium. Most people still don't know that the new Pentium has 4 threads.
      For Intel the Pentiums are just i3's that couldn't handle the higher clock speeds so they're making a ton of money on people buying the i3's.

      There is a leak of a 6 core i5 without hyperthreading... Super dumb IMO.
      If I was intel, for desktops this would be my lineup: Celeron: Single core with hyperthreading. 3.5ghz $35 and 4.0ghz $40 variants (the 4ghz being unlocked secretly), Pentium: Dual core with hyperthreading. 3.5ghz $60 and 4.0ghz $75(again the 4.00 being unlocked) and a Low power 3.0ish ghz with a good IGPU (iris plus graphics X50) $65.
      i3 now have 3 cores and hyperthreading. Standard variants: 3.5ghz $90, 4.0ghz $109, 4.0 K variant $109 (All processor have improved stock cooling, same fin stack, better fan. K variants cost the same as non K, but don't include cooler) and a Low power 3.0ish ghz with a good IGPU (iris plus graphics X50) for $95.
      i5 4 core with hyperthreading. Same branding as i3
      i7 6 core and above.
      id also add an i9 for 10+ cores. I think it would turn heads towards intel, and fool many people into it beeing better than you average i7.

    • @SteelmanArgument
      @SteelmanArgument 7 лет назад +4

      +Ignafiltro Sanchez I'm sure you "would do" a lot of things but the thing is that Intel isn't selling i5's without hyperthreading and i7's with only 4C/8T because they want to. They do that because it's much harder to manufacture chips with functioning cores/threads.
      i5's are basically failed i7's and i3's are failed i5's.
      If Intel could just make loads of 6C/12T CPU's without a problem they would do it in a heartbeat.

      I know for fact that CPUs are the same when being manufactured, and that what is being sold depends on yeilds and cpus passing a test or not. However to my understanding yields do not affect hyperthreading, in other words its impossible for a CPU to be able to run without hyprethreading if that part is "damaged".
      Thought the Cache makes sence.

    I was going for an i3 build but then when I started looking at reviews the G4560 kept popping up as the best bang for buck cpu and that is why I ended up with one. It's made the i3 seem rather pointless given the jump in price vs performance gains. They might as well called the G4560 an i3. What is it in the architecture that differs enough to not be an i3 cpu?

  • @tadeuszmarin5704
    @tadeuszmarin5704 7 лет назад +1

    I think it's literally the first time Europe doesn't get the short end of the stick regarding
    cpu prices.
    Here in Spain you can either get a Pentium g4560 for 55 euros (61$)
    or i3 7100 for 117 (131$), making an already pointless purchase (as in 40$ difference
    like in the US) a literal waste of money (70$ difference)
    I'm really curious about how Ryzen 3 prices will translate to European prices, as in the
    first week we got Ryzen 5 at prices not competitive with Intel offerings (315$ for Ryzen 1600x, now down to 7600k Price tier at 280$)

      The R5 will have much better lows, and will have higher averages as well since it's 4core/8threads, but the 100-130$ difference is not enough to justify if you're building with a lower budget. So, either save up for the r5 1400/1600 or buy now. I would suggest save up for R5 1600.

    • @eeshaan1539

    Putting a build together for a friend. In a 600$ budget, do you think the stretch for an r5 1400/1600 is worth it with a gpu like a 460/1050, or would the money be better spent on one of these 4560s with an rx 470/570? There's always the question of upgrade path, though I don't really know what their income is gonna be like.

    • @breathlesstuna8919
      @breathlesstuna8919 7 лет назад

      I would go for the pentium and 570. In gaming, the CPU difference would be negligable with budget GPUs, so always go for whatever gets the best GPU for gaming, as long as the CPU is still good.

    • @aanandkrishnanrs4635
      @aanandkrishnanrs4635 7 лет назад

      TroidHunter best option wait 1 more month for the Ryzen r3 they may have a killer balance between performance and budget like for as low as 100$ and it will be atleast quad core so u can expect more life from it...
      then upgrade path is very important to consider, if u go with a 1400 u won't have to upgrade the CPU in 4 years, it should hold up pretty well, in the mean time, whether u go with 570 or 1050 ti u are gonna have to upgrade in 2-3 years unless u are looking for minimum frames, Moreover the 4560 is gonna hit the minimums in 2-3 years as well so u will be forced to change the mobo(since Intel will discontinue the socket soon) +CPU + GPU all at once...
      it would be great if u show us Ur planned specs in a pcpartpicker list below so we can recommend the changes needed...
      another reason to go for RYZEN is that their sockets will be supported until 2020 so u can get a better processor if money allows and get some extra years without changing the mobo...
      so please share the parts if u can and we'll recommend the best choice...
      my advice is wait for r3, if it's immediate go for a 1400/570 or 580... Squeeze the extra 20-30 $ for an 8 thread system, it will be worth it...

Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition both arrived a few months after it launched and refused to even boot on CPUs with only two threads.
