I used this tutorial today! I didn't have the micro-sol solution so I just put decal fix on the surface and on top of the decal and it worked just fine! Thank you sensei :)
Honestly, I had never even heard of Micro Sol prior to this point, but that sounds like something that could really help apply certain decals I have in mind for some pet projects over here. Thank you kindly for the useful tutorial!
BTW I do all kinds of model building. And if you ever have an issue seeing the clear parts of the decal (in the model world that’s called slivering). To help prevent that Always apply a clear gloss coat first. Then dull it back down with a Matt clear coat witch will also seal in the decals. A Matt coat if you look close up has a lot of little bump witch allow air to get trapped under the decal.
One thing I've learnt from making aeroplane kits is to put down a layer of gloss varnish before applying the decals. Because gloss is a smooth surface it stops the trapping of micro bubbles of air beneath the decal, which can lead to a silvering effect. Then when all is dry, another layer of gloss to seal it all in. Micro-Sol can help if you are using a matt surface, but using it with gloss gives a great result. Also note Micro-Sol is pretty widely available. It can be had in the UK and I've seen it used by East European modellers on various RUclips channels, so hopefully can be found in other parts of the world too.
+heneagedundas the problem with that is that decals for figures are much different than the ones applied to airplanes, not because they're made differently but because of the application, for example, eyes, skin tone is normally flat or matte, so applying gloss sealant to anything that's skin (ae. face) will mess up the finish intended if it wasn't gloss, if it's a different area like bikinis, clothing, or lets say it's for a kit that has a bike and it has a lot of decals, then sure, gloss is going to be end intention.
+Leona's Workshop I paint mostly mecha and we generally gloss > decal > flat coat. I'd imagine that wouldn't really work as well for skin since you're talking about completely different materials with different finishes, flesh isn't strictly matt or gloss so losing the natural tone of your paint with a finish is going to look odd. Anyway thanks for the tutorials, I bought my first GK after your last one so hopefully I'll do it justice.
facepalm. THAT'S why all my wargaming decals slide or tear off surfaces they're supposed to easy apply onto. Thanks for the technique and shopping list additions cuz :)
Thank you very much! These will work out a lot better than some other print styles I've tried. Are you planning on testing out different brands of water slides in the future. It could be a popular video and help out a lot of artists.
It seems you used clear decal paper over a painted white area (or a blank eyeball inserted into that socket). How did you precisely paint the whites, if that's what you did? I'm looking to use waterslide decals on a Nendoroid faceplate.
Most decals don't have white color when printed, so you have to paint the eye socket with regular white paint then apply decal on top. Some decals do come with white but are uncommon.
Gil Vega Hey Gil you can go to hobbysearch or HLJ and look for a company called HIQ parts they carry eye decals and in different colors. Hiqparts has great quality decals they make them for GAIANOTES as well. Good luck!
Leona's Workshop nop. This os the deal . I bought a custom doll. And the eyes are a lil off placed. They send me new decals to fix it but i don't know what material to use to remove them, and place the new decal set in a better position.
hey Leona, if I recalled, you made a video where you decorated the insides if the gashapon brooches. i cant seem to find the video, is it still up or did it got deleted :0
Thanks for making these great videos!! You're using something like a black grip on a fine paintbrush in this video... do you know where you got it? I've been looking for one for a while now
***** yes, everybody makes the mistake of buying kits from Thai seller on ebay, stay away from them, the quality is horrible and it's not even resin, you're better off flushing money down the toilet, go with gkm for your first purchase, I can safely say, they have the best quality and service.
hey leona! i dont know if you are still doing kit suggestions or not but i would love to see a wip of a Yamato SIF Ex Hellsing Seras Victoria Figure (or any gk from hellsing ultimate). if not then thats cool, i love your videos.
They "sometimes" come with kits, even reproductions. But the older the kit, the more chance the recaster doesn't have the original eyes to reproduce with it.
No, some kits include eye decals but most do not. This is just to show you how to apply them if your kit happens to include them (not only for eyes but other types of decals for different areas of the body).

THIS IS AMAZING! SO IS THIS THE WAY THEY DO THE EYES!

Thanks for this video. I've had terrible luck with decals, time to seek out these specialized solutions.

Thank you!!!! For this comment!!! And suggestion! I have about ALL there is in my studio except the solution are there any other "replacements"??

Just saw this video that is a great idea finally I can stop messing up the eyes lmao. Now where to get the decals from 🤔🤔🤔
How would you seal a water slide decal? Is there a tutorial here?
Micro-Sol is a mild form of Lacquer thinner. I have my doubts about vinegar and water.
great channel! thank you for all the tutorials
Can I just use water? It's my first time building figure rise standard kit and dealing with waterslide decal. I can't find the solution in my area.
Great video, always look forward to your uploads.

I like to use Micro Set and Micro Sol in combination. Same product line, etc and not at all harsh.
Just curious but has any one applied UV resin over eye decals? If so what were the results?

Do you have a list of the equipment you use?
On my website under the shopping guide link
@@leonasworkshop Thx!
Keep on going, Leona. I like you Chanel very much.

@@leonasworkshop Muchas gracias por el dato, es que soy bastante novato en esto de pintar figuras.
Do you need to paint the base white for the eyes first before putting the decals on?
+87initialC if the decals don't come with white ink (which is common) then yes.
Este es Sailor Mercury Crystal?
Es sailor moon de crystal
Where can I find those awesome decal eyes? Thank you for the vid!
They only come with the kit, you could make custom ones but you require special decal paper and ink
+Leona's Workshop thank you!
Gil Vega

ebay
they selll them on ebay
Después que el decal se pega lo vuelves a sellar o es suficiente? saludos
Es recomendable volver a sellar mas no siempre se requiere ya que queda bastante adherido a la superficie
Hi! What's the tecnique used if you missplaced the decal and you didn't noticed until the day before?
You mean, if you lost your decals? If you did and you don't have any spares, then you'll have to paint it by hand.
Leona's Workshop nop. This os the deal . I bought a custom doll. And the eyes are a lil off placed. They send me new decals to fix it but i don't know what material to use to remove them, and place the new decal set in a better position.
Hey Leona! Hope you're doing good. So do most commercial anime figures have decals for eyes?
hey Leona, if I recalled, you made a video where you decorated the insides if the gashapon brooches. i cant seem to find the video, is it still up or did it got deleted :0
It's still there, look under the special presentation Playlist
+Leona's Workshop alright thanks :')
Thanks for making these great videos!! You're using something like a black grip on a fine paintbrush in this video... do you know where you got it? I've been looking for one for a while now
It's not a grip, it's Tamiya's pro brush with a fine tip
Oooh, that's cool, I'll check them out!! (Sorry if you saw the same question more than once, my phone glitched)
Could you please do a Ghost in the Shell kit?
Where is the best place to get kits? Can you suggest some place in tj?
Unfortunately you can only buy them online, I recommend checking out gk model, the link to their store is on my website.
You've been doing this awhile...have you ever bought anykits from Thailand on ebay? Just curious about quality.
***** yes, everybody makes the mistake of buying kits from Thai seller on ebay, stay away from them, the quality is horrible and it's not even resin, you're better off flushing money down the toilet, go with gkm for your first purchase, I can safely say, they have the best quality and service.

My good this is soo smart and pretty
How to produce these eye decals?
They "sometimes" come with kits, even reproductions. But the older the kit, the more chance the recaster doesn't have the original eyes to reproduce with it.
You can buy cheap sets of eye decals on places like Aliexpress, but sometimes the color quality is not too good.
Where can i buy these decals?
Most decals come with the kit if the sculptor/producer offers them. But there isn't a place where you can buy decals for specific kits.
@@leonasworkshop :( Awe ok do you have any videos on painting eyes im scared of doing the eyes lol
Yes, there are 2 videos in my channel for eyes
I love all your content Leona you are the cutest 😝😘😍
*_Awesome video! I like it_*
Thank you very much...👍 see you on patreon.
Thx Leona...
wow bellissima tecnica :)
thank you >,
So this is the trick in 1/6 scale resin anime figures. Eyes are not hand painted but decals.
No, some kits include eye decals but most do not. This is just to show you how to apply them if your kit happens to include them (not only for eyes but other types of decals for different areas of the body).
Leona's Workshop thank you.
