I love how all the NPCs have some level of agency - most games would still have them together at the end of this, because only the player can make big decisions like that, but nope, not here! Astarion said no, and that’s that. Love it!
You get this dialog after he confesses to you for the first time, and is genuine about it. You can pressure him into having sex, and then this happens. Specifically it's the option from Tav is "You should enjoy sex, and you should enjoy it with me." Its really dark because it's after Astarion says intimacy feels tainted for him after seducing people for Cazador. The game does a REALLY good job of making you feel like a tool for pressuring him, and it's amazing storytelling

Proud of this poor little meow meow. Due to trauma I've always had trouble saying no to people, still do to some extent, and somehow it makes me so happy seeing Astarion stand up for himself finally and put his foot down. It's inspiring.
This is much more than a breakup scene. This was supposed to be a victim, Astarion, standing up to their abuser, the player/Tav. By coercing Astarion to have sex when he expressed his unwillingness to partake in sexual activities and hoping to heal from his trauma, we players become just another abuser in his life.

Additionally when he says "no matter what I say... it doesn't matter." He still feels like he doesn't have the choice, the ability to process that he can now say something and it will have an impact. Since in other parts of the game he says something (along the lines of) "it didn't matter, what I wanted/said" I should especially emphasize that the "didn't" Is past tense when referring to Casador. He understands that part of his life is done, but he can't help but bring it with him. For those who don't know, his name is "Astarion" because it means "little-star" since he never had the chance to claim his adult elf name (because elves age differently and he is considered a child). So from his 'early age' he was given the impression that he did not matter, and so the virtues he holds with him "after 200 years of shit, pure shit" Is so hard for him to let go off. I'd especially love to focus on the bite mark on his neck, when the 3d modeling artists were sculpting astarion. The bite mark is not like the one he gives Tav (should you chose to romance him) Tav's mark heals and is a clean puncture. But his, is rough and tattered; scarring severely. Showing that the initial process of getting turned for him was very traumatic, emotionally and physically. I think this bite mark is more of a metaphor than it is a simple character gimmick though. A metaphor for the virtues and memories he can't seem to let go of. scars never heal, and neither shall he. but they can fade with time, I see this metaphysical scar as symbolism for how he can never fully abandon what he learned there. The same way he still believes he is there (ex. "My thoughts don't matter" or "I can't say no") the same way you're reminded of the wound before the scar. And bow- And pose- And exit stage left. His intentions are his own, out of sheer pain, and his voice hasn't been his own, since Casodore had turned him, into a Vampyre Spawn. Back to Cheekinesss, and his cutting tongue, Astarion, might not be able to love you, but he still needs you to guild him, stand with him, even stop him, later when the Power becomes too much, and delicious for him to say No, that he's better then that, and he can defeat his Daddy Demons, with you there to help him still... 😞🧛🏼The finery the glamour never was of importance for him, just more of a disguise for him to retreat into. ✨😞🌞✨⭐✨ The damage to Astarion is too great. PTSD isn't a game, and he doesn't know how to say, or show, how he truly feels. And now he has you to blame, for a cheap thrill, as well as that Tadpole in him controlling him again. He feels worthlessness, and can't endure the empty numbing feeling of being nothing but a Character for you, the player to play with him still. It doesn't matter. I don't know how to say, no... Whatever this is¿? No matter what I say... It doesn't matter, not if you get what you, want. And there's nothing funny, in his devastating Truths...🩸 Truly a Tragic and Trauma suffering persona, Astarion, is my favorite Character from BG³ He's amazing, yet flawed, he is aware of who he is, but never allowed to shine, in warm dappled sun beams, 🪞or to see his reflection, in a shattered image blackened and bleeding, a thirst never ending, no comfort, in his glossy red rosea’ glare. This is really an indeapth answer for an even more interesting character, what really drew me to him was his incredible writing (don't get me wrong all of the character are amazing too) but astarion feels like a real person. He and every other character in this "Game" is truly a work of art (Also neil did an amazing job get this man like an award or something :)

Yes, and Neil really has amazing range. Not many Vampyre Elves, and if their is, Astarion is absolutely a unique Character, who people can identify given an amicable situation arises, And he sees your Character as a real Alie, he will share timidly, yet eased somewhat. And yeah, passionate about really great Character's, here to defend my free city clientele. 🙃😉

His Stealth, and abilities to sense traps before they go off, is vital throughout your game. Also his Vampire bite, and cuttingly Cheeky tongue, is added bonus, for non poisonous Foes, during battles. So yeah, he's in need of your friendship to go above and beyond, don't go to bed with him, unless you expect a tongue lashing, from him, when he realizes what he did, and what you want of him. He's easily hurt and confused. He is also such a flirt, but tends to be an avoider. If you want to have something with the Characters be sincere, the devotion will pay off later on, when they let you know how much you mean to them. Warning, Astarion is super sensitive and will make sport of you, but he admits later, you made him feel worth, so much more then he saw himself to be. Just need patience, and pick the right line of dialogue, sincerely, thinking about him, or whichever Character you wish to have a romance with in the game. This scene really got me. When Neil said in his acceptance speech that fans had told him they felt "seen" by this character, I thought he just meant like, gender id or sexuality representation. Seeing this scene made me realize, that's not what he was talking about. This was powerful
I am so glad i got to see this scene and know the dialogue to get it: "You should learn how to enjoy sex with me" Because my autistic ass would interpret that as "take as long as you need, until you feel safe and comfortable with me" because that's important to me!! (Especially since irl i don't enjoy sex. No matter how much i love and trust my partner, i just can't enjoy it) So i can now safely avoid hurting him

There are two different ways it can trigger: one involving a pushy Drow who wants him to bite her (refuse to make him bite her) he can also just confess without going to see her. He'll tell you he doesn't want to sleep together anymore. I can't remember the exact dialogue options, except for the one that gets this above scene. But if you agree to stop sleeping together he'll be happy and you won't get this scene! (There is an adorable scene of you holding hands and he's so awkward but sweet 🥺)

You can trigger it during his confession scene in act 2. When he opens up about his past trauma and the disgust he feels around sex, one of the responses is something like "You should learn how to enjoy sex again with me." He'll very reluctantly agree and then the camera cuts to Astarion half naked staring off into the distance before this scene begins

When you talk to Aja.. you can tell him "sleep with me" if will agree saying "If that's what you want I will provide" then you will wake up with one of the most well written scenes in this game..I wish all the characters had this much depth
There's an event that happens in Act 2 that makes him realize that he's not very good at telling people "no" to sex, and that he wants you to have a relationship with him that isn't just about sex. You can pressure him into having sex with you anyway and this happens after.
It's great to see some backbone from a companion in one of these games. I (Durge) took away the idea that he was free in this party, all for a strength potion, only to further use him when he complained. He realises hes gone from one master to another, not a real lover, or even really a friend. It reflected how I saw the relationship far too well for me to reverse. Simple incompatibility. Now he's benched for noncompliance.
If I took a shot right now, for every relationship Ive been in, where somebody expects you to magically wave all their baggage away like a wizard, and then blaming you for those issues they had, because they didnt magically get over them. Id need a new liver by the end of the night. As far as Im concerned, he is lucky he didnt get a shiv to the gut after the second time he came at me. Dude is talking a lot of game, for a person who kidnapped many others (including children) to put them through the exact same thing he went through. That isnt even what made me hate him. It is how he reacts when he finds out that all those people he thought were murdered, are still alive. For a guy who "boohoo Ive never had a say" while constantly celebrating murder and treachery, he immediately looks down on the other spawn as wretches. He is just as bad as Cazador, with or without ascension. He was a crooked judge who took delight in squandering the lives of others, and in true poetic justice, ended up a slave to somebody who kept him as a slave to control his life and torture them. As far as Im concerned, he is only worth keeping around for that potion, and then it is straight back to Boaal.

Do you know the context of this scene? It happens in Act 2 as an outcome of one of the dialogue choices. Basically, if your approval is high enough with him, he will confess that he was meaning to use you, but he fell in love with you then. He explains that Cazador got him used to seduction and sex as a way to control people, even against his general will - so now sex is weird for him and he doesn’t really want it that much rn. You can then choose to pressure him into it regardless. Imo there’s nothing hypocritical about him roastijg the shit out of you in this situation

Truly a Tragic and Trauma suffering persona, Astarion, is my favorite Character from BG³
He's amazing, yet flawed, he is aware of who he is, but never allowed to shine, in warm dappled sun beams, 🪞or to see his reflection, in a shattered image blackened and bleeding, a thirst never ending, no comfort, in his glossy red rosea’ glare. There is only numb illusion. Deluded murk to find, others pass, but Astarion never can see a reality and that deeply effects him...

This is really an indeapth answer for an even more interesting character, what really drew me to him was his incredible writing (don't get me wrong all of the character are amazing too) but astarion feels like a real person.
He and every other character in this "Game" is truly a work of art

@@ItsaMeSandy Funny I was thinking the same thing. It's not easy to research a Character from a game, but as you play on, he becomes so much more then a one note Character.
Yes, and Neil really has amazing range.
Not many Vampyre Elves, and if their is, Astarion is absolutely a unique Character, who people can identify given an amicable situation arises, And he sees your Character as a real Alie, he will share timidly, yet eased somewhat.
And yeah, passionate about really great Character's, here to defend my free city clientele.

That's a fan tastic idea. Someone should.
Character get's too much flack.
He's flawed and alone, and he can be one of the best Characters to play with, in the game.
His Stealth, and abilities to sense traps before they go off, is vital throughout your game.
Also his Vampire bite, and cuttingly Cheeky tongue, is added bonus, for non poisonous Foes, during battles.
So yeah, he's in need of your friendship to go above and beyond, don't go to bed with him, unless you expect a tongue lashing, from him, when he realizes what he did, and what you want of him.
He's easily hurt and confused.
He is also such a flirt, but tends to be an avoider.
If you want to have something with the Characters be sincere, the devotion will pay off later on, when they let you know how much you mean to them.
Warning, Astarion is super sensitive and will make sport of you, but he admits later, you made him feel worth, so much more then he saw himself to be. Just need patience, and pick the right line of dialogue, sincerely, thinking about him, or whichever Character you wish to have a romance with in the game.
But caution, be real, cause the Characters all believe they truly are, and they all have sad back stories.

This scene really got me. When Neil said in his acceptance speech that fans had told him they felt "seen" by this character, I thought he just meant like, gender id or sexuality representation. Seeing this scene made me realize, that's not what he was talking about.

Because my autistic ass would interpret that as "take as long as you need, until you feel safe and comfortable with me" because that's important to me!! (Especially since irl i don't enjoy sex. No matter how much i love and trust my partner, i just can't enjoy it) So i can now safely avoid hurting him

There are two different ways it can trigger: one involving a pushy Drow who wants him to bite her (refuse to make him bite her) he can also just confess without going to see her. He'll tell you he doesn't want to sleep together anymore. I can't remember the exact dialogue options, except for the one that gets this above scene. But if you agree to stop sleeping together he'll be happy and you won't get this scene! (There is an adorable scene of you holding hands and he's so awkward but sweet 🥺)

You can trigger it during his confession scene in act 2. When he opens up about his past trauma and the disgust he feels around sex, one of the responses is something like "You should learn how to enjoy sex again with me." He'll very reluctantly agree and then the camera cuts to Astarion half naked staring off into the distance before this scene begins

When you talk to Aja.. you can tell him "sleep with me" if will agree saying "If that's what you want I will provide" then you will wake up with one of the most well written scenes in this game..I wish all the characters had this much depth

There's an event that happens in Act 2 that makes him realize that he's not very good at telling people "no" to sex, and that he wants you to have a relationship with him that isn't just about sex. You can pressure him into having sex with you anyway and this happens after.

It's great to see some backbone from a companion in one of these games.
I (Durge) took away the idea that he was free in this party, all for a strength potion, only to further use him when he complained. He realises hes gone from one master to another, not a real lover, or even really a friend.
It reflected how I saw the relationship far too well for me to reverse. Simple incompatibility.
Now he's benched for noncompliance.

If I took a shot right now, for every relationship Ive been in, where somebody expects you to magically wave all their baggage away like a wizard, and then blaming you for those issues they had, because they didnt magically get over them. Id need a new liver by the end of the night. As far as Im concerned, he is lucky he didnt get a shiv to the gut after the second time he came at me. Dude is talking a lot of game, for a person who kidnapped many others (including children) to put them through the exact same thing he went through. That isnt even what made me hate him. It is how he reacts when he finds out that all those people he thought were murdered, are still alive. For a guy who "boohoo Ive never had a say" while constantly celebrating murder and treachery, he immediately looks down on the other spawn as wretches. He is just as bad as Cazador, with or without ascension. He was a crooked judge who took delight in squandering the lives of others, and in true poetic justice, ended up a slave to somebody who kept him as a slave to control his life and torture them. As far as Im concerned, he is only worth keeping around for that potion, and then it is straight back to Boaal.
When do you get that what have you done
In Act 2 there is a scene where he confesses to the player. Essentially he opens up about his sexual trauma and how he wants a relationship that isn’t based around sex. If you pressure him to sleep with you then regardless, you will (rightfully) get this scene

Do you know the context of this scene? It happens in Act 2 as an outcome of one of the dialogue choices. Basically, if your approval is high enough with him, he will confess that he was meaning to use you, but he fell in love with you then. He explains that Cazador got him used to seduction and sex as a way to control people, even against his general will - so now sex is weird for him and he doesn’t really want it that much rn. You can then choose to pressure him into it regardless. Imo there’s nothing hypocritical about him roastijg the shit out of you in this situation
