Kemi Badenoch rips into Suella Braverman: A James O'Brien analysis | LBC

- In the first Tory Shadow Cabinet Meeting, Kemi Badenoch ripped into Suella Braverman for having a 'very public' nervous breakdown during her speech in Washington.
James O'Brien has one question: 'What's going on?'
This comes as Suella Braverman attacked the Progress Pride flag and described it as "a symbol of our failure as Conservatives" during her National Conservatism Conference speech.
The former home secretary has criticised the outgoing Tory government for flying the flag, which represents the LGBTQ+ community, and accused them of allowing children to transition to a different gender.
"Kemi Badenoch has accused Suella Braverman of having a breakdown in America because she's still fighting the culture wars that for a long time Badenoch seemed to be a senior general in", says James O'Brien.

Suella Braverman and Kemi Badenoch are the British version of Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. 😂

I like and respect your optimism. Here is my prediction based on the past is that things will get better. People will be lifted (however that may be) out of poverty. The economy will grow. The Conservatives need to be very careful. There were dozens and dozens of seats lost to the Lib Dems at the last election, and elsewhere where moderate voters have shifted to Labour. The last Lib Dem fall back was when they were in government. That won't be a factor next time. Keep going ever further to the extremes at your peril - never mind the harm it does to the country.
Exactly my view. Reform voters are about 36% in proportion of potentially (potentially) voting Troy if Reform join with the Troy Party. This is about 5% of their vote share. So if 5% join the Troy Party on Reform coming into the Tory fold, what percentage of One Nation's would then leave to go to Lib Dems? 30% (7.2% of the Tory Vote), 40% (10.6%)? Be careful courting the Reform Party if I were you The Tory Party .....
@@ScruffyTubbles How much of those that they lost to the Lib Dems/Labour was to do with the tories being too culturally conservative though? They supported them what it was Boris Johnson afterall so I don't think that's the issue, I think they voted differently due to the economy being in such a poor state and the miriad scandals. Winning back voters from Reform and being a truly Right wing party is the only thing that can save them, the world is sick to death of moderates
@@23Stork I think the election analysis is tricky and delicate at both the left and right ends of the Tory party; I'm not talking about you, but I'm in general a bit amazed at the absoluteness of some people's pronouncements. One factor to bear in mind about Boris' victory was the deep unpopularity of Jeremy Corbyn among centrists; I reckon fear of him as PM caused a significant number of Tory/Lib floaters to hold their nose and vote for Boris. Starmer of course is a cuddly bank manager by comparison and probably freed up many anti-Tory votes.
@@23Stork The 36% of Reform that will come back into the fold (5%).
With respect this is too simplified. While I agree there’s a possibility of a Tory wipeout a comeback of sorts is far more likely. Lib Dem’s got a lot of seats but it was disproportional to their votes and they seem more a tactical/protest vote than a party many believed in. This may be their best ever result in history and they will find many of these seats hard to defend. Likewise labours majority is made of water. As for Reform will they still be around? Farages parties have a tendency to disappear and there’s a lot of talk of him joining the conservatives. I really wouldn’t write them off, their biggest opponent is themselves not Labour or libs.

I don't know much about this issue, but wiki informs me the first transexual was in the 1930s, and they were celebrated. Something interesting to note is that Japan is a VERY conservative country, yet they don't shy away from noting the dark parts of their history in commemorating historical events. I noticed that when I visited last year. They will plainly state in museums about the war that objects from that time represent a shameful period for the country, stuff like the occupation of various countries etc. It's as it Braverman thinks that's something that should be swept under the carpet. It's not, and there is a tactful and conciliatory way to handle things about your country's history that are uncomfortable but also showing that lessons were learned. Awareness and sensitivity to the uncomfortable parts of a country's own history is not an "un-conservative" thing. It's an un-denialist thing.
I think there’s a balance to be struck. It’s important to plainly acknowledge our country’s dark past. But it’s not necessary to self-flagellate like we’re trying to atone for some original sin. Or to pretend that our country was uniquely evil. Most of global history was pretty brutal.

Nature abhors a vacuum, and a political party has to have a set of policies. As Conservative 'thought' became increasingly threadbare, they discovered a sideshow, 'culture wars', and moved it into the spotlight of their internal debate, to cover their policy bankruptcy. That's the 'why'. But as for *what* the phrase 'culture wars' meant, the answer was 'anything you like' (or rather, don't like). A meaningless irrelevance, elevated to major issue, because of the absence of anything real to offer the electorate.
