guys, come on be honest about the capabilities of the Surron, it does not compete against a motocross bike even remotely close in it's stock form. To get a little closer to an MX bike you need to spend $1000's on: Suspension, Wheels, Tires, ergonomics, etc. And even then it's still a totally different machine, it will never take you on a serious trail ride beyond 25ish miles (unless you like to ride slow), it's lacking in power, the suspension isn't as good, there are so many ways an MX bike blows it out of the water. The RUclips's of dudes passing 450's on a Surron let's be real here: 80% rider, 20% bike. I'm not saying the Surron is bad, in fact I own 2 of them parked right along multiple KTM's and a CRF450R. They are different, and enjoyable in different ways. Myself as a once pro-level rider, I can go WAY FASTER on my MX bikes compared to the Surron and I prefer my KTM300 90% of the time. A beginner however will LOVE the surron and maybe go faster/similar speed to an MX bike which takes a lot more skill to master. Perfect example, my teenage daughter will choose the Surron 80% of the time.
@@BrianLampright913 No-one said it could beat an MX bike as stock. As you said, they are different bikes. On some trails you don't stand a chance with an MX. @@MTO_Brothers Awesome MTB vid! If you took a Surron down that trail I guarantee you would be significantly slower vs your MTB :) A Gravity trail like that is where a light weight MTB with top end suspension just kills it! I'm a mountain biker as well, spend about 50% of my time on MTB vs MX. :)
Nice work, really good video. I am planning to buy Sur Ron but i have doubt about battery temperature as we all ride dirt bike to their limits so this electric version batteries will heat up a lot, its a most important critical factor but no video shows what exactly temperature behaviour of sur ron batteries in field, can you guyz show us, it would be so exciting to watch temperature behaviour of Sur Ron battery in action.
I've had this bike for two years now. I've ridden it in 93 degree weather and 32 degree weather. I've never had an issue with either of my batteries. There's now some serious aftermarket support for these in regards to batteries. Chi Battery and ebmxtreme out of Australia both offer 60 and 72v battery options with more amp hours. Everything is still crazy expensive for these things however, which I hope will decrease in time.
If we were ALL serious about getting rid of reliance on foreign crude oil, there's a solution that's already somewhat been put to the test that worked brilliantly in the US, but needs to be done on a larger scale, with more immediacy! "The First Test! Look around today! We started with money back incentives on hybrid and electric cars when they were finally ready, sales were slow(the cars were slow), but increased as the cars got better, we can skip that step, because what I'm talking about is already "better", we've at it for a decade, and we even race them! People were timid at first and needed encouragement, and it worked!...We see Tesla's and Prius', etc everywhere these days, that incentive WORKED! Now we have even more incentive, moving from reliance on Russian/foreign fuels, we CAN do this! at least to a degree that it massively changes how things are now, and turbocharges a movement that's ALREADY in motion! :D 1- The incredible amount of electric 2 wheeled vehicles, scooters, bikes, etc has drastically increased, and the technology is everywhere! There are incredible examples out there! average price around $1700 (a little too much for people that are timid about the technology still, but they know it works.) The rides we're mainly talking about are the higher end models in the $3k range. 2- ranges and speeds(from 20mph to 45mph) have been increased to the point where they can take the place of gas powered scooters, and small cycles. easily handling 20-70 mile round trips on a single charge.(depending on options weight, quality of bike, etc)..you can also plug them in while at work or wherever you;re heading, no special equipment needed(BIG PLUS!) 3- prices range between $800(mostly for teens) to $3000(daily riders, and reliable) for very decent examples. Even if we were given a coupon or certificate for $2000 towards an E-bike, scooter, etc, we could probably make up the difference and buy a quality product easily. 4- pathways need to be created, min 2 foot wide along major roads, and commuter areas, we can share with bicycles! THIS is job creation! Not to mention the development of the bikes themselves :) 5- It would cost literally nothing relative to the benefits, to give people certificates to obtain one vehicle, or partial payment of 1 vehicle per household, example: gift every citizen with $2-3000 certificates used ONLY towards an electric vehicle, this money would be returned within weeks, or months on fuel savings, and lives saved cutting Russia off more and more. As people started using them, and seeing the massive benefits of low maintenance, worry free tech that is electric cycling! 6- it would allow us to lessen our dependence on foreign oil by a small percentage, but only at first, as the trend continues, and advancement moves towards electric commuting anyway, this would only increase dramatically, even exponentially over a short period of time! 7- There are already service centers in most cities, multiples of them, some selling their very own products. Helping out Mom and Pop stores that grew their business from regular bikes to E-bikes, what's not great about that?! 8- life enhancements, they're fun, seriously fun! I suggest riding one if you haven't! halved, or more fuel costs per family alone would spur the economy, gradually increasing over time, this would be the perfect opportunity, and with the most honorable reasons to start the E-bike revolution. meaning savings, job, transportation, less traffic, and we haven't even mentioned the Green effect it would have on the planet! Better economy, Better world! EVERYTHING about this makes sense, we're not talking cars, but we could! we're just talking about basic ways to commute that don't rely on fossil fuels, and would help everyone. ----------------------------------------------------- If you read that, thank you, and please consider pushing to someone that can do something with it, we need to do this!
Good video.....except the stability part at high speeds...not sure if you got it somehow set up wrong, but unless you're going 80+.....it's stable....take your hands off the bars and coast "stable" I got 3 of them, 1 with 72v bat and asi bac8000 from litespeed, and the other two with stock bms bypass/bac8000. They're definitely the future....check some of my vids out...mine got no ads too....lol
My comment about stability was more in reference to how it feels compared to my bigger on-road dual-sport bikes. I love the bike. My time on-road is more limited for sure.
Use a peg drop kit, raise the bars a few inches and increase the fork rake a few degrees (either with a taller tire or 21" wheel) and the handling comes alive like crazy.
These are not MX bike replacements, they are fun in other ways though. I own 2, one is for my teenage daughter, the other is for my 74 year old father who still likes to twist the throttle. These are amazing for beginners and people who don't want to spend the time to learn how to be really good on an MX bike with extra weight, learning clutch control, and all the maintenance.
Hey, I would love to hear the answer, because didnt quit get it, if i buy sur ron, or segway x160, can i ride on roads (sidewalks)? or only offroad places
It probably depends on where you live. These bikes are faster than any pedal-assist e-bike, so they would be better suited for the street than a sidewalk.
You probably just need to change the fork and get different tires and it will probably be more stable on the road at 50 miles an hour that looks just more like it's stock and those tires are definitely for dirt
I don't really ride it on the road. I did end up swapping out the tires, but for a more aggressive set for the dirt I often ride in. A front fork upgrade will probably come sooner or later. They are just crazy expensive!
It probably depends on the state. I know of at least one person here in North Carolina who successfully registered theirs as a moped. That required liability insurance.
@@DrivingLine i am going to buy the bike in like 2 months but the big price here in my country for 4k u can get more then 4 scooters 50cc or just 1 and u can make it relly fast so i cant decide
I have two stock batteries and going on over two years of ownership. I haven't experienced a single issue out of the batteries. There are a lot of aftermarket battery options for these bikes now as well.
They make road legal versions of this overseas. I don’t think they ship one road legal one in the US. I know in some states you can title these as mopeds.
Unfortunately Alta has been closed down for couple years now. KTM still in it, hit you would be a fool to get theirs for the same price as a brand new 500 exc
I have two batteries now. On my last trip to the mountains, I got 46 miles of hard ridding in. You learn how to eek out more charge and still have fun.
Once it’s unlocked by the app, can you hack it so they can’t “relock it”. I don’t want any possibility of the bike being hacked by anyone. I think it’s ridiculous that you need an app to ride a bike.
@@DrivingLine I'm thinking of buying one. My mate rides but he thinks I'm stupid getting a surron. Have U looking in to the MX body kits ? And is this really worth it. Cause in my country they r 9 thousand dollars.
I think it would be fine. Size wise, it's similar to a CRF150R Expert. You can keep it in the less powerful mode until they get used to it, then Sport mode will give them plenty of power to enjoy trail riding. It's not a good motocross bike, but for woods riding, it's great.
@@DrivingLine Ay mate thanks very much for replying currently looking at this and hoping to get one to ride around a 50 acre block mainly of Aussie wood bush so yeah. Hope you have a good day! Cheers
Which one did you go with? I found one, but it was a conversion for early bikes using a cable throttle. I haven't found one that's for bikes that already have the existing drive-by-wire throttle.
The actual charge time is around three hours with 10-percent battery left. It's also suggested to let the battery cool for about an hour before re-charging and let it balance for about an hour after it's charged. I ended up buying another battery to have a spare when I go out of town with it.
Depends on cop. Need the pedals really and explain that it’s a mountain bike or e assist then your subject to those rules. Most officers have no idea, some will insist it needs a plate and others will say your good to go
I've ridden in wet and muddy conditions and have not had an issue. There are videos of guys doing crazy water crossing on these, but I would avoid it. I don't think riding in the rain would harm it.
In North Carolina, I have seen people tag them as mopeds. There is another version of this bike that is street legal that is overseas, but I have not seen it imported in the US.
I don’t trust the tires that low. I think when I step up to a better set of actual dirtbike tires, I’ll be able to drop it down to that without issue. Just too concerned about pinch flats at the moment.
2nd time out and my surron x randomly died on the trail. Had to drag it back. I’m waiting to hear what I should do with it. It’s not even a week old. Really disappointed. Caution.
Hate to hear that. Hopefully, it's something small that just go overlooked. I'm going on 9 months with mine and have not had an issue where it randomly died.
Theres multiple things to check. The kickstand sensor. The brake sensor. The battery. I would look around to see whats going on because this bike is really worth it i wouldn't put it off
It's on the smaller side for sure. I have friends that ride these that are 6ft. Swapping to taller handle bars and going with the 21-inch front wheel helps for taller riders.
I’m 6’4 and it definitely felt small but is still a blast Luna has some new parts like a peg extender and a lift kit should add about 4 inches and 2 inches back between the two
A Russian guy on you tube sells all sorts of goodies including a fatter seat/footpeg extensions for a longer leg/and 3 to 4" riser bars so you're good upto 6' 4'"
Segways bike is complete Shake compared to this one though so that would be a horrible thing to push other people towards if this one isn't in stock this one has a lot more power and potential
Segway offers an X160 and an X260. The X260 is the same bike as the SurRon shown here. I have a friend local to me with one. The Segway app is really nice as it allows you to adjust throttle sensitivity super easily.
Yep. It adds up quick. I spend more time ripping serious trails with my KTM. If I could get more mileage out of the battery, I would consider dumping more money into it. But, for now, it's fun just the way it is.
@@DrivingLine yes definitely not cheap and battery power is nice but it’s limited. They are still far away from gas bikes. If you got 100 miles out of a battery it would be great.
Have you looked at the Chinese motocross called time.It looks nice but I have only seen 1 RUclips video on it.I spoke to the manufacturer and they say it has more power than the suron
36v bike I found on Amazon. XtremepowerUS 36V Dirt Bike Kids... www.amazon.com/dp/B08PXT2639?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share The battery life has been really good. The suspension is ok, but a big improvement over the Razor MX350 she was riding. The biggest issue we have with it is the grips are fairly large and make it hard for her little hands to grab the brakes as easily. I might end up swapping the handlebars out on it.
Yes. I love the electric. SurRon is making a larger version of this bike called the StormBee. I think that will take care of many of the shortcomings of this bike. I still have my KTM 250 4-stroke. While it's a blast to ride, the electric is way more fun. Not to mention the lack of engine heat in the summer time is a real benefit. Keep in mind the range is still limited with these. I now own two batteries.
You should slam that setup in a Honda 125..boom problem solved.. no fuel. Shocks tires rims no gastank. Inner cooler engine. Exhaust. Noise..maybe lighter. Than add that headlight. Led. Have one amazing setup..maybe a work on a conversion.
It's not street legal, at least here in North Carolina. You might be able to get it plated as a moped, but you would still need a valid license for that.

@@BrianLampright913 No-one said it could beat an MX bike as stock.
As you said, they are different bikes. On some trails you don't stand a chance with an MX. The same way that on some trails, you don't strand a chance against a mountain bike.
Like it or not, it's how it is 🙌
If you tell me you'd go faster there on your MX bike, bro I'll be paying you for riding lessons

Looks stunning

1- The incredible amount of electric 2 wheeled vehicles, scooters, bikes, etc has drastically increased, and the technology is everywhere! There are incredible examples out there! average price around $1700 (a little too much for people that are timid about the technology still, but they know it works.) The rides we're mainly talking about are the higher end models in the $3k range.
2- ranges and speeds(from 20mph to 45mph) have been increased to the point where they can take the place of gas powered scooters, and small cycles. easily handling 20-70 mile round trips on a single charge.(depending on options weight, quality of bike, etc)..you can also plug them in while at work or wherever you;re heading, no special equipment needed(BIG PLUS!)
3- prices range between $800(mostly for teens) to $3000(daily riders, and reliable) for very decent examples.
Not to mention the development of the bikes themselves :)
5- It would cost literally nothing relative to the benefits, to give people certificates to obtain one vehicle, or partial payment of 1 vehicle per household, example: gift every citizen with $2-3000 certificates used ONLY towards an electric vehicle, this money would be returned within weeks, or months on fuel savings, and lives saved cutting Russia off more and more.

If you read that, thank you, and please consider pushing to someone that can do something with it, we need to do this!
No lower brace on forks thought that was added my small Suntour xct have one.
@@DrivingLine word👍
Use a peg drop kit, raise the bars a few inches and increase the fork rake a few degrees (either with a taller tire or 21" wheel) and the handling comes alive like crazy.
I wish these were about $1000-$1500 cheaper. Hard to justify it at 4 grand.
If you own a sur ron people sell 3rd party switches for the lights so you can turn it on and off
You are correct. When I first picked mine up, the aftermarket support was nothing like it is now. So awesome to see how it has grown.

What do you recommend for commuting
Hey, I would love to hear the answer, because didnt quit get it, if i buy sur ron, or segway x160, can i ride on roads (sidewalks)? or only offroad places
It probably depends on where you live. These bikes are faster than any pedal-assist e-bike, so they would be better suited for the street than a sidewalk.
Is it completely illegal for street or can you stay under 20 and it will be fine ?
Depends on the state. Here in NC, you can register them as a Moped and legally ride them on the road.

Do you need insurance. In uk we need insurance to go anywhere unless private with permission
It’s available in Abu Dhabi? And How much?
In the US they are now $4,200 from Luna Cycle.
Does the head light comes with the bike right out the box or do you have to pay extra for it?
It comes with it.
Awesome
if you were to register the bike, would you have to insure it?
It probably depends on the state. I know of at least one person here in North Carolina who successfully registered theirs as a moped. That required liability insurance.
How tall are you, i just want to know so i can compare my size to the bike

How long will a surron battery last before it breaks?
I have two stock batteries and going on over two years of ownership. I haven't experienced a single issue out of the batteries. There are a lot of aftermarket battery options for these bikes now as well.
Can you ride it on the road without a license or permit?
They make road legal versions of this overseas. I don’t think they ship one road legal one in the US. I know in some states you can title these as mopeds.
what kind of forks do you have on your Sur Ron?
They are still the DNM Volcano ones that came with it.

Just to be clear this isn’t a brand to replace your dirt bike you should look into actual e dirt bikes look into Alta

So barely an hour of trail riding I'm guessing? Is it pragmatic to haul a second battery in a back pack? I'm guessing not.

any recommendations for trail riding sur rons in NC? Im in charlotte.
Uwharrie National Forest when it’s dry is a lot of fun and close to Charlotte. Brown Mountain is another spot worth exploring.
Would this be a good first bike for a 15 year old?
I think it would be fine. Size wise, it's similar to a CRF150R Expert. You can keep it in the less powerful mode until they get used to it, then Sport mode will give them plenty of power to enjoy trail riding. It's not a good motocross bike, but for woods riding, it's great.

I’m curious, is their a valid difference from the Sur-Ron to Segway besides prices?
The Segway has an app that makes tuning the power and throttle sensitivity very easy, but the bikes are essentially the same.
You can get a quarter turn throttle, I put one on mine.

It's more motorcycle than it is bicycle. You can buy a pedal kit for it, but it's really designed to be an electric dirt bike.

Is this thing street legal and do you need a license to drive it on the road?
Depends on where you live. Here in North Carolina, I have learned that we can plate them as a moped. That will require insurance and proof of license.
Depends on cop. Need the pedals really and explain that it’s a mountain bike or e assist then your subject to those rules. Most officers have no idea, some will insist it needs a plate and others will say your good to go

You should be running like 12 PSI or less and run rim locks
I don’t trust the tires that low. I think when I step up to a better set of actual dirtbike tires, I’ll be able to drop it down to that without issue. Just too concerned about pinch flats at the moment.

If you are in the United States, you order it from Luna Cycle.
I would look around to see whats going on because this bike is really worth it i wouldn't put it off
I’m 6ft , that comparison with your YZ, looks tiny lol!.

36v bike I found on Amazon. XtremepowerUS 36V Dirt Bike Kids... www.amazon.com/dp/B08PXT2639?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The battery life has been really good. The suspension is ok, but a big improvement over the Razor MX350 she was riding. The biggest issue we have with it is the grips are fairly large and make it hard for her little hands to grab the brakes as easily. I might end up swapping the handlebars out on it.
Why would you trade gas for electric,?

This is not an e-bike, it a motorcycle. Don't believe me? Try riding it on the street and see what happens.
You should slam that setup in a Honda 125..boom problem solved.. no fuel. Shocks tires rims no gastank. Inner cooler engine. Exhaust. Noise..maybe lighter. Than add that headlight. Led. Have one amazing setup..maybe a work on a conversion.
