I Love The Pixies since the 80's! But I like the Frank Black solo albuns! Black Francis has got a voice simply incredible!!!! This is one of my favourite tracks of his solo albuns! Just an acoustic guitar and a simply amazing vocal! I don't have any Idols, but much respect to Black Francis!!! This song is amazing!!!!
I've liked them since the 80's too. At the time, whenever I showed the band to any of my friends, they said they didn't like it. I wish I could see them now. I bet they probably say "Oh yeah. I've been into the Pixies since the 80's." Lol. It was so different from anything around at the time. Really it still is although they did inspire a lot of artists. Still, no one really sounds like them. Some bands kind of come close but no one can really do it like they do.
This is pure incredible. Strip away everything, the bass, the guitars, everything that made the Pixies great, and you're left with an astonishing voice. And amazing lyrics.

Teenager of the Year , hands down is an epic release of some 22 songs. LOVE IT ..admittedly and Charles has said this , I had to listen a couple of times, before I realized the greatness , that was presented here. His solo work in my opinion rivals or possibly eclipses his Pixies writing , which is one tall order, if possible at all.. Thanks FB-BF-CT for all ..much enjoyment over the years and to this day ..
You're right about having to listen to the album before it really sunk in just how great it was. It's his opus. I just downloaded the entire album a couple days ago. Can't wait to take it all in again. My favorite track is Vanishing Spies. Lyke Workman was a virtual unknown, now he's doing major work with film scores. Teenager of the Year is one of my favorite albums of all time.

@@willwhitman717 that's AKG 414. It's a very respected mic, but I have personally compared it with cheaper ones like AT2020 (100$) and believe me it's hard to notice the difference. It's better to save up for the guitar. That will impact the sound more. The source must be good, not the recording equipment. This guitar has nice timbre and volume to it. Very dense rounded sound. Cheaper guitars don't sound like that. I know. I only had cheaper guitars in my life :D
