You're expecting Joey's guitar and it goes all softer than you think. It's nice to see the bones of the song, something like he would have orginally demoed to show the others the song. But on it's own it's deliciously fragile. What an artist.
as a fantasy and science fiction reader, i like the mythology and paranormal references in his songs. his voice and Kim's voice were magical together, and he sounds good here by himself
I love his lyrics. Good that he remains faithful to his initial rendition of his songs in terms of tone and pace. I'm not a big fan of reworking stuff. Shows that he clearly likes his own work and doesn't need to lazily deliver it differently through boredom.

I still just can't believe how many good songs this guy has written. Not just with Pixies, but the Frank Black solo albums are ridiculous as well. Get Teenager of the Year if you don't have it already!
My favorite Pixies song by far. Love the Weezer cover as well. I had a summer romance end today with the girl moving away. There was nothing I could do but loop this song...
@@nathanb5579 Yes. I wish it were a happier story over a decade later, but unfortunately it's not. I still think about her some, and she did reach out a few times and tell me I was the best man she ever met, but that's where the story ends. Occasionally I'll reminisce on the good memories, but now that I'm out of the haze of infatuation, I can see I was really just a rebound. C'est la vie.

@machbaby Fmsus4. I think it's called. Barre the 1st and 2nd (and 6th, normally) strings with your 1st finger at the 1st fret, then barre the 3rd, 4th, and 5th strings at the 3rd fret with a flattened 3rd finger - or use your little finger: like an A chord shape moved up one fret. looks like he probably mutes the 6th string.or just doesn't barre it. hope this helps.
@Louquivole I can't even describe how crazy it's been, but there is hope. I saw her a couple months after posting and will see her again in a few weeks! :D
Lemuria was actually a scientific hypothesis from the 1840s - the Geologist who proposed it noted that there were Lemurs in Madagascar and India so he posited there was a sunken continent that connected them in a distant time. Then, after WWII, soñar and radar mapped the oceans and the theory of plate tectonics was proven by the planetary oceanic rifts. Some still hold to Lemuria as a real place but it was a fairly recent invention that is not supported by the actual scientific proof once ocean floors were mapped. Some say Atlantis was in what is now Saharan Africa - the climate was wet until well after the last ice age and was where Imperial Rome got its wheat until a few centuries after the Empire was formed North Africa became too arid to grow wheat.
I think this is my favorite Pixies song.
His explanation of the song has left it making less sense than before, however.
He met a chick who whos ethnic background ties her to limuria, but velouria means like hairy and he is referring to her as that because she was hairy
google Velour
whoa
the less the pixies musics make sense the better....
well it does make sense but you would have to be smart to get the references... that´s why it doesn´t make sense to you.
One of 14 reasons why Bossanova is as great as that which preceded it.
maan, everything about this band is just so magical
1000 times yes
i agree
You said this seven years ago and I’m still coming back to it at the wee hours all these years later. Magical is an understatement.
@@UbiDoobyBanooby He did say he had an encounter with a Lemurian.
Pixies music is like an entire universe of their own. Their music has an atmosphere to it that just transports you to a different place.
His explanation of this song made me love it more...didn't ever realize he was on board with the Lemuria thing.

Magnifique!!! Frank et sa bande ont enflammé l'olympia de Paris hier soir... C'était trop bien....
Ils ont joues Velouria?
I've been listening to this song for the past 5 years, and I never realized Kim Deal is singing "V-E-L-O-U...R-I-A" until I heard this version.
I didn't realize it until you mentioned it, and I've been listening to it for the past 14 years.
ive been listening to this song for 15 and I always thought vit was really love you bye bye babe . lol
I've been listening to it for 600 years
Indeed. I was unaware Deal was singing that.
Beautiful song, even more so with this acoustic version.
always thought she said eeeeeoooh ra ra re
I would never have thought that a simple acoustic version of this classic sing could come across this well, but he totally kills it. So beautiful.
Could watch him do solo acoustic stuff all day.
I love all the stories behind Frank's songs, they're so straight forward yet intriguing, like the songs themselves!

this is the greatest explanation of a song I've ever heard.
