HOI4: What's The Point of Reaching Out To The Italians?

- Today in Ethiopia, to ensure their survival in the Second Italo-Ethiopian War a group of local rulers will go behind Haile Selassie's back and get in contact with the enemy, Italy. However this uneasy alliance cannot last and even after the emperor has been overthrown, preparations must be made for the final battle to secure independence.
Along the way we will be evaluating this focus tree, we'll see what benefits it has as well as the downsides. All to see if there is a point to this new-ish focus tree.

So this one is not only the first BBA What's The Point but it's also the first Ethiopia video on this channel, even if I'm only Ethiopia for the first few minutes of the video lol. So far they haven't been the easiest to make content for tbh, I know the micro is a major part of any run with them but god getting it all together nicely will be a fun balancing act going forward.

Hoi4 - Don't know when or what is next, so open for more ideas. Maybe another What's The Point, a guide, a challenge or even maybe a formable if that could be fun.
Have you considered a what's the point of the Manchu obedience path? Now, it might be the historic path, but it does allow you to core all of China while giving you autonomy from Japan, so at the very least the intent of the path seems to go beyond just being a good puppet of Japan (one of the focuses explicitly mentions rejecting the historic republican puppet state that Japan installed), it'll probably be very broken after all these DLCs, though.

Yeah Reach out to the Italians just feels heavily multiplayer oriented. Or well, whenever I go for Italy first, I'd rather set up an Ethiopian Puppet just because i'd rather have more of another ally then a colony.
Best part is, I tested it out, and apperently you can form the horn of africa even as a puppet, so if you have state transfer (or at least the multiplayer version of it) You can gain the cores you're missing out on. (Including the cores on ethiopia you miss out on). So having an Italy to Roman Empire and Ethiopia/Gojjam/Jimma to horn of africa campaign and conquer the world. I think that could be neat.
If you puppet ethiopia (this is very neat) in the peace deal, they will switch to the italian puppet branch of the tree and all the war focuses will be bypassed for Ethiopia AND they will keep all their land and cores. Which means if you have an Ethiopia player you both can ( for roleplay or exp ig) fight eachother seriously until Ethiopia inevitably looses and then you can puppet them and get OP east africa.
I have a suggestion: What's the point of Orléanist France? The Legitimist and Bonapartist Kings have far better paths, so I can't see why a player would choose the Orléanist path.
And it's not even good from a meme perspective either.
Like who is excited about bringing the moderate branch of pretenders whose reign lasted only 18 years and that otherwise wasn't that big of a deal ? If you go monarchist as a player why would you even go for them instead of the dynasty that claims descent from the pre revolutionary days or the dynasty that has had emperors instead of kings ? What would be the rationale behind ?
The only big thing that path does is give you permanent weekly stability. It also gives you war goals on both Germany and Italy if they're fascist, but I don't really see how that's in any way better than the Bonapartist path giving you a war goal on Germany (and the ability to border gore Germany to death) without regard to their ideology.
@@ertrick3693 The advantage is you can make puppets out of Germanys former lands.
Only problem is they all have the default focus trees and thus can’t help you that much.
Honestly if they added focuses to the Orléanist puppets I think that alone would improve that path.
Another thing they could do to improve that focus tree is adding more subjection focuses, otherwise it’s just a boring path.
@@sephikong8323 They could have made them fascist with Charles Maurras but they didn't.
Also the situation of the "Legitimists" in France is very convoluted, because the "certain" legitimate line ended with Henri V back in the 19th century and there was a general consenus that the Orleanists are now the legitimate kings. Only a small number of people broke away from it and decided to support the Spanish Burbons.

They should be careful to give the Serbs and Croats equal treatment for the voicelines but it would be a shitfest anyway.

Thanks for the take, I thought I was the only one who kind of liked this branch of the tree. Had a great time playing down the total-obeisance sub-branch, but I have to say I wish the focus which ensures you control over Aden and etcetera moreso focused on granting you claims in the African hinterland - parts of Sudan, Uganda, etc. especially since even having a coastline isn’t guaranteed by that path (Italy can refuse your plea to return your territories, which was sadly my experience 😢).
You should do a video about one or both Democratic Italy paths, they seem interested but don’t get much love
I like the democratic king path. I don't like Christian democracy, and I haven't bothered with the socialist democracy.

Edit: The in-game code says "is major" and "not in a faction with Italy"
Italy is not in a faction with Italy, so it receives the event that explicitly says you want to overthrow them
What's funny is that from my modding knowledge I can tell you that there are many other potential bugs here. For example, if Italy puppets another major, say, India, and is not in a faction, and their puppet becomes a major, their puppet will also receive this event!
Wanna know what's funnier? There is no check that the major ISN'T AT WAR WITH ETHIOPIA!

They do survive past a year becomes a puppet to Italy only after the war the allies liberate Ethiopia

@gasmaskmandiscorddude7837 hungary and yugo already have trees and yugos has already been reworked. Paradox should finish giving all participant nations focus trees before going back and redoing minors imo.

I usually play paths like these where you become a puppet with a friend so one of us the puppet the other one is the other country
I think both paths should eventually allow you to peacefully negotiate with the UK and France for French territories

What is the point of the loosen law of secularism in Turkish focus tree. My opinion Turkish focus tree needs some adjustments like decrease the days, making some improvement and fix the some bugs.

About the last part, nope. Italy was meant to claim Var (851) instead of Asir-Makkah (856) in their Irredentism foci.
Also, Haile Selassie is explicitly Orthodox Christian, not a muslim. Judean Kingdom of David-Solomon existed only in Palestine and Jordan anyway.
