HOI4: What's The Point of The All India Forward Bloc?

- Today in India, the British Raj shall be overthrown. As the All India Forward Bloc takes entire stage following the provincial elections of 1937, they will seek support for Indian Independence and when the time is right, British Rule in India will end.
Following independence the bloc must ensure stability in Northern India, or face the consequences of not doing so. Along the way we will be evaluating the All India Forward Bloc path, to see what it's all about, what's worth doing, what's not and try and find a point to this focus tree.

This video came second in it's poll with 32% of the vote, the British Raj's tree is a weird one isn't it. Not completely awful but is outshined by other many other trees, even other tfv ones such as South Africa's and Canada's, but it has it's moments here or there when you play it.
Schedule for future videos:
Next HOI4, Don't know when, but I am looking for non What's The Point videos to do, so if ya have anything that you think fits that mold I'd like to hear about it.
Ideas:
What is the point of Stalinist Greece ?
What is the point of playing as Vichy or Free France?
@@realsmithas2759 I like the first idea, but not the other two. Historical trees don’t belong in the series, they exist for an obvious reason.
@@BubblesZest I suggested the France one because no one ever played them
The Commonwealth Countries are extremely lacking compared to nations like Bulgaria and Switzerland, which didn't even remotely contribute the same amount or even participate
I think you should do your next “What’s The Point” on the US Confederacy tree. It takes ages to get through, and the bonuses at the bottom make it barely worth it.
Paradox needs to rework the Together for Victory DLC in the next update. All focus trees are really poorly designed, you cannot even elect more candidates with Australia or Canada, and British Malaya never got a focus tree.
Polat Alemdar in iran
I think Malaya would get a focus tree with Nepal Indonesia and Tibet
@@kso4vfl Indonesia is understandable as they fought against the Japanese, Tibet and Nepal are not. Uninteresting and didn't fight in the war. Siam however could be better since they officially joined the axis (and won!)
@@legalduidriving the goal is to add focus trees to all the nations I think Inner Mongolia should get a small tree with 3 options go with Japan go with china or become a warlord Tibet I’d love to have a tree.
I'm sure the devs would love to, but it won't make any money that way
OK i looked at the event files, and Germany is more likely to help you under these 2 conditions: 1) GER has more than 75 opinion of RAJ and less than 0 opinion of ENG, 2) RAJ is more than 50% fascist. Its the same but for communism if you are seeking help from SOV. There is nothing you can do to make ENG more likely to accept foreign pressure to let you go free, and I don't think the AI will ever let you go.
Challenge: Get so many axis lend leases and send those guns to allies to capitulate them
Nah, that isn't a challenge and I don't see a good video with it.
tldr:
"Lend-Lease here, Lend lease there"
It is a hilarious idea, though not for a video
That's what I almost always do as France. Get involved in Spain by going in so I get to be in a war, train as many divisions as I can and try to get as many Italian equipment as I can, Italy will give trucks and light tanks.
Indias biggest problem is not agrarian society, they can achieve armies similar in size to those in world war 2 with extensive conscription.
Indias biggest problem is their lack of industry, massive States in India especially in the South get up to 4-5 factory slots at most, it is very hard for an India to break even 100 factories.
British colonization.
Yeah it's mostly because like 5 of focuses in the tree give literally level 1 railways for 70 days. Germany and many other nations have focus trees that build their economy much faster(like 4 mills for 70 days)
@tech_red4277 and? Paradox only employs realness as an excuse when they're being lazy
I see no reason why a future independent democratic, communist and fascist tree couldn't use an international investment mechanic and have a part of the focus tree dedicated to adding building slots.
And armies in hoi4 are generally smaller than reality
@@alexh2947 I feel that when you compare modern focus trees to older ones it becomes quite clear that the focus has shifted significantly from "realism" or something approaching it, to arcady fun with time passing on. Probably India was really designed with the idea to make it kinda "historical", not laziness, but the focus shifted and now it probably needs to be changed.
An anti-Stalinist commie path could include events with Commie China. Some way to help them out against Japan and some sort of event where you jump in on the war against the Nationalists if the Chinese civil war reignites and create a Pan-Asian People’s faction. Maybe extend to spread Communism through South East Asia together or something
i thought of a communist path where you join a faction with mao and then fight border wars in china for him which would be returned to mao so you are benefiting over and over again
Agrarian society should force you to stay on volunteer until you become free (or timed till 45 or something) instead of the flat manpower de-buff.
La Resistance broke the Pakistani war - if you collab them before the war starts then the event will still fire and both of you will get permanent free armies. Also you cant prevent Burma from seceding, unless you collab them too.
I think the fact that paradox needs to fix their old trees is becoming ever evident. I know New Zealand isn’t that relevant but any problems surrounding the Māoris is just relegated to some text when in reality a lot was going on, the fact that Australia doesn’t have any mention of the aboriginals, there is 0 mention of Yugoslav partisans, Hungarys tree is pointless unless you’re going monarchist, etc etc
I agree on Yugoslav partisans particularly
@@Stefan-xu5nd yep there should at the very least an event when you capitulate to either play as the cetniks or partisans, and also decisions to launch partisan insurgencies against the occupiers because partisans held territory in Yugoslavia and were constantly active
@@Prauwlet213 Would it be similar to the focus where the Ethiopian leader gets on a train to the UK, and therefore Ethiopia can't capitulate?
@@AlterExo_ I was more thinking it would be an event, like when France capitulates. You would have an option to play as the Cetniks and collaborate with the Germans, to form a serbian government, as Tito's partisans, and resist and organize uprisings, both would have their own focus trees
Also Czechoslovakia is really basic. Would be cool for all the czech, polish pilots who fought for RAF
Alas you played as the British raj! Thank you Bubbles Zest.
This tree needs a complete overhaul or redesign of it's alternate history branches. I don't know why you need world tension still for Provincial Elections, and there aren't paths for a more dominionized path for India at the cost of never breaking free. Fascist and Communist India needs a complete overhaul with new paths and expansion (Hell, split the Communist path into two, and let the Fascist Path be pro-Japan or pro-Germany.) and a monarchist path for the fun of it.
As I say this, in the latest Beta that PDX is calling "War Effort Patches" they have made probably one of the best decisions and made a focus dealing with the raj's most annoying spirit, Agrarian Society.
So basically, India is being fixed up a bit, and actually being playable. I still believe that massive overhauls are needed.
TFV focus needs to be updated. India needs more elaborate Communist and Fascist paths, and alternate paths for each. Democratic Swaraj path needs to be added, and non-aligned Monarchist and Theocracy path.
I wish paradox would go back and fix their old trees for once. I want to play India but agrarian society is crippling. I want to play Hungary but their trees are just claims and not much else. You never have time to buff your army either
Agreed
They also need to add more focuses to Germany.
It needs a communist path.
@UmbrellaLeef You can actually get Goering and Himmler in pure vanilla by triggering Himmler to murder Hitler,, its pretty barebones, and does nothing besides portraits, but you still can do Goering "path" ( Best part about this route is the event when Hitler jumps over the table, and starts punching Himmler )
I think that a path trying to rectify the disagreements between hindu & muslim communities in india could be cool, since it wasnt really until ww2 that separation was set in stone. Really hope they rework, so much potential in india.
instead of agrarian society, India should have severe limitations on conscription while being a puppet, as India didn't have conscription and it would've likely caused massive unrest if they did, so if you use indian manpower as colonial divisions you won't be able to get more through them increasing the conscription law
40% will be lord lilthgow hiding in a fort in Kashmir with 10 guys armed with a single pistol
Somebody who realizes how PDX has memed the Raj... despite the heavy contribution India had in WW2.... India had the largest volunteer army by the end of ww2.. They even that legacy and boast the largest volunteer army till date lol..
I was v disappointed with Raj not getting more love from PDX ;_;
Well idk. India is one of the most populated countries on earth (or number 1 i forget), you can still easily field a giant army, it’s just kind of a counter weight to just how powerful they would be, to a near broken extent without it in some regard. And it is now possible to get rid of it slowly in the late game, which I prefer over a couple focuses. It’s more interactive
How about a video on a fascist Netherlands? I've never seen anyone do that path.
I've done it. It's fine. Still prefer monarchist though.
If Germany would accept you would get Bose as your leader
yes, India had the largest army of the Second World War. India at the game launch had almost 2 million starting manpower. yes, all the Together For Victory Focus Trees need reworks like what Romania and Yugoslavia got. paradox should focus on fixing the existing broken content before adding more broken content that's just going to make the existing broken content worse.
India's tree is on par with pre-rework Italy in terms of being absolute garbage. Now that Together for Victory is being made base game, there's no reason to not completely rework every nation that got trees in this expansion.
love this kind of videos
The Indian army was a massive force in WW2, the thing is it was mostly Sikh volunteers. Also they should add a new partition decisions where you could either play to speed up partition or slow it down (or even prevent it) you could even choose to play as the Pakistani, Burmese, and Khalistani separatists or as the Indian government
The khalistani separatist stuff would be controversial as the indian people are to sensitive for this thing...
@@fallaciousfirm2524 Nah bruh.. Indians were sensitive about it during the 80s... now it's mostly chill but yes you would find a few odd apples everywhere
Not just Sikhs but all the "MArshal Races"
In my game, I avoided Pakistan rising up because I got the event to release them as a collaboration government before the civil war event.
4:00 horseshoe theory in a nutshell
I always do it because my great-great-grandfather served in the Indian National Army under Bose.
damn bro ... jai bharat brother!
In regards to the "seek help" focus tree: in my experience you get "help" when you have a certain amount of fascist support (in my game i turned to the right). If the decision is succesful Britain still doesn't let India free but when the civil war starts you get a different leader (with small bonuses) as when you have no help from Germany. And if i remember correctly said leader is one of your few generals. Plus I think once you have freed India you are part of the Axis should you have gotten help from Germany. A thing to consider
Did paradox watch this video?
4:43 In the event files, it’s 50/50. However, there are some strange variables called GER_can_help_against_ENG and ROOT_will_help_RAJ. If the first is “no,” then Germany can never help. Otherwise, having over 75 relation with Germany while Germany has less than 0 with UK doubles success, ROOT_will_help_RAJ being “yes” will also double success, and having more than 50% fascism with double success.
If ROOT_will_help_RAJ is “no,” this quintuples the chance of failure.
I don’t know what the variables are or how they’re affected, but they’re probably the cause for repeat declinations to help.
11:35
Also, I’m kinda surprised. When I do All India Forward, I’ve always been able to collab Pakistan before they rise up.
They are an excellent way to get around Agrarian Society.
If only this video was one second shorter...
What I really don't get is why the default Fascist benefactor is not Japan when Japan _made_ Free India. Indian fascism irl in that period is entirely thanks to Japan, not Germany.
One change that I would like to see as part of a revamped focus tree is the communist path having a way to ease religious tensions through equitable secular governance, and the fascist path inflaming tensions due to being Hindu nationalists but getting some other benefit to compensate.
This could be one of the benefits of the non-Stalinist communist path, where you’re more flexible about religion than Stalinists usually are
As in getting cores
There is single indian states in this Game the size of literal formables in europe. They should make these states a lot smaller and give you more, rework agrarian society again, add a better focus tree and a bunch of releasables. Have a mechanic that works to either centralize power at some cost or lead to the breakup of the raj (either along historical borders or not). Give them the option to fuck around in SEA and china, naval build up buffs, special sikh and muslim Divisions that get some Boosts.... india could be amazing in this game but it sadly isnt
I think India should get its own dlc. Where you can do anything from declaring independence as a democratic India. To bring a fascist Hindu or Islamic superpower. Or a non-aligned monarchy. Maybe reform the Mughal empire or perhaps make the Maratha empire that should have been. Or be a communist india. Non slighened Buddhist theocracy. There is a lot you could do.
An Indian DLC could add new focuses to not just India but also to Pakistan Afghanistan Burma Bangladesh Tibet and even to Nepal and Bhutan.
@@darth3911 yup whole South asia
Hi can I ask you how to get the requirements for the horror and fear focus ( Greece ) ?
You choose to collaborate with the National Union of Greece in the focus "The Anatolian refugees". If you do this, no one will attend the convention and the focus is bypassed, unlocking "Horror and Fear".
Thx for all of you I will try it
Maybe host some discord alt history multiplayer servers or role play? I’d love to
I genuinely don't see a need for a discord server, also here's two big surprises for ya. I've only ever played two mp games so I know near nothing about the mp meta and two, rp games are not for me at all.
@@BubblesZest I mean there are some uses for a discord server
@@BubblesZest yeah I haven’t played many MP games either, so I’d say due a no rules as historical game with ur fans. I feel like a lot of us, if not all would run single player strats and focus on rp or having fun in our teams in discord or something like that
Peaceful Development for Builgaria.
Maybe you can get help from Germany if you are At war with Germany
Is the national congress side any good?
Nope, just tiny borders and boring historical
You could've just released Pakistan as a collab government, avoiding the entire hassle of its rebellion.
What your thinking of only happens if India declares independence due to Britain going a-historical (e.g King's Party) keeping the collab high.
The civil war and ideology change wiped out half of the collab on Pakistan, couldn't release crap at that point.
@@BubblesZest huh, the run I did do it was historical though, it's been a while since i did that run so it may have been fixed. Maybe I just released them as normal puppets not collaboration govs. I'll test it later to see if it works still and try to remember what I did.
@@BubblesZest yeah, if you want to avoid a war you have to release them as puppets, but puppets do have benefits, and you can choose to keep core states now. So nothing of value is lost except rubber. And tungsten
If you do Two-Nation Theory before the civil war, then you get rid of that nasty national spirit, and from my own experience (I was on ahistorical), you won't have to lose Pakistan either. In other words, you can get rid of marginalized Muslim community without having to pay the price of Pakistan. You also get to keep Burma.
All India foward block would be good.. if you can remove Argerian society, if you chose to not go down the democratic path you cant remove the -70% population debuff
