- Today in the United Kingdom we are going to be ranking all six of the paths in their focus tree, from A Change in Course to Steady as She Goes and everything inbetween we will being exploring every part of every path.
Along the way we shall go other what's good about each tree, what it allows you to do that another does not. But also making sure we cover what's not so good, all to find which out of all of these is the best.

I hate ai england dragging +40 minors in a war while doing decolonization. Not only worst path for player but ai too.
But also AI UK and France early game guarantee every country Neville chamberlain and the French are on nope Germany don't attack yugoslavia however if you where Germany and invade Italy UK and France don't care
Whenever I see the news popup that either the UK is revisiting colonial policy or conceding to the trade unions, I make it my primary mission to do everything I can to erase the very notion of British independence just so I don't have to deal with that idiotic lag spike
@@ertrick3693 thing is the decolonization tree should start after WW2 not in 1936 instead of all at once the independence triggers one at a time UK getting malayan emergency, gradual decolonization events meaning you loose all the big areas in the world. You won't loose any brutish overseas territorys, Barbados, Falklands, British virgin islands, cook islands, ascension island ect. Major events include malayan emergency, indochina war, Suez crisis ect

With the Blackshirts tree, I’ve managed to do the Imperial Federation with USA cores (Dominion of NA) and then form EU by April 1938. I am sure experienced speedrunners can do better.
thats how i did the one empire achievement, i garrisoned the dominions by spamming divs and didnt go ina civil war so i immediately got the us and then crushed france and germany
Just curious, how did you do that? Every time I try to release Canada as a puppet, it declares independence, even if I change it to fascist. Will it still work if Canada has a collaboration government?

@@colBoh @m3an published a strategy to do exactly the same thing. I haven't watch that video but since he beats my record I assume he has better strategy.
I did that too except it was much later in the game and I had the minor problem of the game going non historical after it realized what I was doing
You forgot to mention, that you can form the EU with Mosley.
The communist path decolonizing is a good impulse, but it needs to not just hurt you and lag the game. Changing it to focuses like “Recall Colonial Governers”, “Hold Elections in the Colonies”, and “Promises of Independence” that give you extra non-core manpower, factories and resources WITH THE CATCH that if you do not finally decolonize by a certain point and/or when certain conditions are met, there will be the civil war and/or massive uprisings in the colonies
throw in a referendum at the end after you've balkanised the commonwealth with a chance to core the colonies like how France can with French Union

We're on home soil for this one but it doesn't mean I'm going to be gracious to any parts of this tree, gotta hold them to the same standards.
Story time, just like No Further Appeasement I have no footage of the historical path prepared so I had to make some for this video, funnily enough this also includes me using marines which I don't often do. You should though since Britain via Special Air Service gets an advisor allowing for 20+ attack and defence on special forces.

You forgot to mention another benefit of the blackshirts path: Not only can you form the imperial federation, not only can you core the USA by doing so, you can even form the EU and core most of western europe.
It's odd how no one seemed to logically think about the Mosley strat before (or so it seems). Maybe that's good railroading on PX's part or maybe there's some kind of subconscious block about calling in people you don't have to since it's usually not beneficial.
Because it didn't exist until BBA released, it's a by-product of the peacedeal rework.

Communist Britain is unique in that it is unplayablely bad; not in a Meta sense in that it is not optimal. No no no. It makes the game just not work because it sets your damn PC on fire
''defense'' is not the wrong spelling, it's just the American spelling. But, since it's the British focus tree, you could actually argue that it's wrong, I guess.

depends on if they restored the bavarian imposter Albrecht, or the "legitimate" claimant Arthur Stuart (I know I'd much rather have a King Arthur than be under german occupation)
At 1#, The Italy has at least larger navy than Germany, which might help securing naval dominance and raiding convoys.
At 11:00 you mention you can only justify on countries that have raised world tension. Could you start a coup in their country to force them to raise world tension when they annex the rebellion that breaks out?
I've never played the UK except for their achievements, but I think I should play them more because most of these paths seem really fun
I didn't realize it before, but in every non-Historical game I had, communist UK will always stay inactive compare to democratic who will guarantee countries that are threaten by other majors, or to fascist (or even the democratic) who will declare wars. Also they always decolonize before they flip, which if they didn't, would leave a threat of them joining together if one of them is under attack, but instead you can just starting recolonizing them instead, maybe if at-least UK guaranteed after releasing them would be something.
i personally recognize that while the communist paths are a self-inflicted injury, it does make sense in many regards that a communist revolution would be such a shot in the foot, and can actually work very well for narrative games trying to create unique stories. does it hurt, yes, but i can understand the low placement.

Perhaps, but just because other paths have that doesn't make up for the communist tree's other obvious downsides.
I think the communist tree should have an extremely violent revolution (i mean you can literally slaughter the royal family) detailed very heavily and for the other side of the civil war the empire fleeing to other parts of the world kaiserreich style.

i will say that: when i am in the custom game settings, pre-setting the Ai nations to a-historical focus paths, communist UK is the one i pick the least
as you pointed out, it's not particularly fun to play as a player, and the AI doesn't seem to be able to play communist UK particularly well
(by contrast, it's very competent with the fascist & monarchist paths, and it's a downright menace if it goes the churchill world police path)

I think the French communist path is everything the British communist path should be, you don't decolonize, you can get some hefty war goals, and the last focus gives you 20% bonus to dockyard and factory output and division attack and defense on core territory, together with the revolutionary seal granting you more bonuses to attack and defense on cores

Communist paths (yes, both of them) - Fills me with pure, unbridled rage just looking at this part of the tree, fuck this dumbass path, I prefer my foot to not be filled with lead
Home Defense - Good for historical or a passive-defense approach focusing on internal stability and reaction to global events
Global Defense - Churchill's Wild Ride, or the British World Police path; neat if you want to try to prevent World War 2 by snuffing out conflicts exceptionally early
King's Party - Mostly like it for flavor, but it's still fun; it's just that it's also incredibly hilarious, especially if you kill Edward the VIII and fill your political cabinet with corgis
British Path to Fascism - We live in a period... where world conquest is actually fun

The only argument for decolonizing is that you can crash a multiplayer game if the pro’s PC isn’t strong enough to witness the 50 quadrillion African nations
I think the communist path could be at least a little fun if they basically had it exile the old British government to a dominion and then you have to fight their influence or even fight them as in go to war. Basically kaiserreich but it would be cool.

- Only ONE focus actually requires flipping communist; the rest need either sufficient Communist Party popularity or having the Communist Revolutionary as an advisor (and you're not locked out of rehiring the Democratic Reformer)
- The Second American Civil War can be beaten in less than a month (much easier than the one to turn fascist), and being at war means you can ditch the Undisturbed Isolation debuff early
- Get rid of the Great Depression in less than 18 months, without having to wait for New Deal legislation to be drafted
- Reach out to the Ware Group gives you free advisors
- Full Desegregation raises America's already huge manpower pool by 20%, meaning you can field a massive army without needing to go to Extensive Conscription
- Can be cheesed to still let you access the Limited Intervention tree's spy bonuses and 6th Research Slot
- War goals on the U.K., Japan, the Netherlands, France, Italy, and Germany
- Join the Comintern, even while still Democratic, and since you're one of the few powers that can usurp the USSR in manpower and industry, you can take control and kick the Soviets out
- The Join the Unions decision, which lets you annex the entire Soviet Union, even if you weren't allowed into the Comintern

If civil war erupts, the dominions join the democratic side. You can do federation THAN do the civil war to become communist and have control over the dominions after the war.

Actually, in my experience, it's only way that the Britain communist path can be actually interesting. Sure, it's very painful and full of tears and shootings in the legs, however it adds that sense of accomplishment when you create the Imperial Federation, makes it feel earned as beat the half of your own Empire, crush the dreams of decolonization and basically put 75% of your own communist party, generals etc. to death just to paint the world red with your cores.

I feel like Paradox tries to do too much roleplay stuff with Communist branches. From an rp standpoint, the British communist path makes some sort of sense, but from a gameplay standpoint, it's just garbage. People play Hoi4 to expand and map paint, but the British communist path does the complete opposite, and instead of expanding, you lose everything for little gain.
If i wanted to larp, I'd download one of the historically accurate mods.
If Iraq and Iran went fascist on historical by themselves (as iraq did), and it was a british focus to joint invade iran with the soviets, home defence would be much better
Other than that, I just wished britain had some better focuses, too many 70 day focuses for too little. 70 days for 1 motorized 100% speed up? 70 days to EMBARGO japan? Get a life, the soviets get 10 military factories with a 70 day focus

I have no idea why many people hate on the communist path, I personally had so much fun while playing the Union of Britian in vanilla, while the other paths felt rather blank, except that monarchist USA thing, if anything, the communist path puts alot more challenges and that's cool

Both. The Fascist and Monarchist paths are pretty much identical, and both of them lead to the "Unite the Anglosphere" focus, which is how you get cores on the US (or, more accurately, how you give US cores to Canada).
