    I am planning a similar mod for my compass. I could not think of a good way to prevent the watersnake from turning while in the cassette. Your idea to use the shower rod flanges is genius! Thanks so much for putting this video together. Tight lines!

    Very Nice ideas, great vid. I am going for the Outback 2021 myself as I want the extra build density, for the inshore waters I have around me here in SW Ireland. The Compass is a great Kayak, If I needed to drive to locations, it would be high on my list.

      @@jm77chung Thanks Jimmy, we have great fishing here on the edge of Europe but often treacherous seas too. Stable Kayaks are required unless you're out in the best conditions. After about a bit more over a year of the watersnake, I got sick of it. Leaked, had to do maintenance on it every time I took it out. Decided to get a bow mount trolling motor instead for my hobie. So much better for putting around, trolling, and spot lock. Great for the price though.

    Thanks for making this video, and sharing your modifications.
    I have a couple of questions about your downrigger mount. I purchased a Scotty Locking Flush Deck Mounting Bracket, and was surprised that the bottom wasn’t sealed. I was planning on modifying it to prevent leakage, as it’s only covered by a cap when not in use and not watertight when in use. Did you seal yours, or were you able to find one that wasn’t open at the bottom? Thanks for your help.

    • @jm77chung
      @jm77chung  3 года назад

      I strongly recommend to use Scotty #244 Flush deck which is fully sealed. Don't use Scotty #244L which has locking feature but not waterproof.

    • @thecivilizedoutdoorsman9128
      @thecivilizedoutdoorsman9128 3 года назад

      Thanks for the quick response. Some of the more recent reviews for the 244 (2020) say that it’s not sealed either. Did you buy yours recently?

    • @jm77chung
      @jm77chung  3 года назад

      @@thecivilizedoutdoorsman9128 the last one that I ordered was on Dec. 2020. Don't know whether there has been changed on 2021 model. It's weird if it is not sealed. Hmmm

    Hey Jimmy. Did you need to add the rear hatch to install those h rails?

    • @CeeCast

    • @jm77chung
      @jm77chung  3 года назад +1

      @@CeeCast Sorry for late reply. You need both of short and long socket that matched with nut size. At First use short socket and put nut into the socket and tape on side of nut. This tape will be taken off when it screw the bolt. To reach the hole inside of kayak you need long handle that can be connected with socket. Once the nut is screwed with bolt short socket no longer support to hold the nut then you need long socket. Since the bolt is holding nut, with long socket, you can finish the job. Hopefully this could help you

    Jimmy! Love the set up, thank you for sharing. I just found your channel and I love your vids! I am on the market for my first kayak and was wondering how you feel in your kayak space wise. I am 6ft tall and am worried about deck space in front of me. Was wondering if you have had any trouble with space on your Compass. Thanks!

    • @jm77chung
      @jm77chung  3 года назад

      I'm 5ft and 9", To me Compass's space is perfect for fishing, I recommend you to install vertical hatch with bucket. I used to use Pro Angler 14 it supports huge space but it was quite difficult to go back when the weather changed to windy.

    • @marinogomez619
      @marinogomez619 3 года назад

      @@jm77chung Right on, thanks so much. I have used a brother's PA 14 many times for fishing and have thought the same thing. It is a bit of a tank to haul around, even has the watersnake like you did but those 14 footers are just big guys to haul around in the water even on clearer days sometimes. Thank you again!

  • @QuestFishingAdventures

    Hey Jimmy love your mods! I have a question for you on the 9" hand rail you installed. Does it interfere with you using the rudder control? When out on the water is your hand going over the bar or under to regulate the rudder? Did you think about using the 21" hand rail just curious. I know the top rail is pitched and not level for a flush mount further back. Nice work by the way!

    • @jm77chung
      @jm77chung  3 года назад

      Actually hand rail helps the rudder control. You can put palm on hand rail and can control rudder by finger comfortably. I think 21" rail is too long but it can be easily cutted so you can adjust proper size that you want.

    • @QuestFishingAdventures
      @QuestFishingAdventures 3 года назад

      @@jm77chung , Thanks! I know my compass skips the waves pretty good so I like the 9" handles, I always feel like I'm going to get thrown! LOL I'm going to cut down a "21 and install parallel to the front round hatch and install lights on the side! Thx Again!
