    I worked in a factory that made products under a dozen or more names. I can tell you the only difference was the packaging. As soon as an order for one store was completed, we changed the packaging, while keeping the line running -- same product, different packaging. Overheard at a checkout, "I always buy this brand because it's so much better than the other brand." Lady, they are the exact same product.

      @pericore9100 3 месяца назад +4

      It's essentially mind-games. It's an interesting topic, really. In some cases, the product is actually different and better. But more often than not, you're being offered the same product with a different brand behind it's back, boosting the price. But for some reason it also magically boosts the taste/smell/feel to many people. A lot of many people. As long as they know it's from brand X, they'll interpret additional taste to it, despite none being there. If they don't know it, they'll never taste the difference.

    The order of the ingredients determines the amount. The soups for example, if the first ingredient is tomato and the second is pepper, there will be more tomatoes than peppers. Which explains the difference in the green juice flavours.

    I’m a product development technologist in food manufacturing and a lot of companies contract manufacture products for other brands that don’t have their own factory. A lot of times we get customers requesting us to basically replicate an exisiting product on the market and we essentially develop a match. So pretty common that the cheaper branded products are basically identical.

    I was a security guard at a large food manufacturing plant that cooked up peanut butter, jellies and preserves and a few other things. The exact same batch of peanut butter produced Jiff and several large chain grocery store brand. They just rolled on different labels. So many people think Jiff is superior but it is the same as several store brands. The same thing for the jellies and preserves. The expensive brands were taken from the same batch as the store brands. Hint- buy the store brands....

    Trader Joe's and Walmart don't manufacture any products. They outsource the manufacturing process to major brands. The manufacturer then "white labels" the products for the supermarkets. A better comparison would of been comparing Trader Joe's to Walmart's Great Value brand.

      @@Ms.DemTube it is for the most part. He’s comparing store brands to national brands. If you compare 8 Oz of the pretzel thins to the great harvest brand and the trader Joe brand, Walmart is cheaper for their store brand by 24 cents. Buying the name brand at Walmart (price per Oz is more expensive than buying store brand at Trader Joe’s price per Oz. Name brand is 37 cents per Oz in 14 Oz bag, Walmart 28 cents per Oz in 8 Oz bag, trader Joe is 31 cents per Oz in 8 Oz bag. They all look the same so he is correct they are probably all made n same factory but if you put the store brands head to head I doubt that Trader Joe is cheaper than the Walmart Great Harvest brand very often. They do have more unique and upscale food offering than Walmart though.

    about smoothies and juices in general: the problem is not per se that they're unhealthy ingredients wise, the problem is, that for example the mango smoothie in the video would be made of (idk for sure but I hope you get the point) 1 mango, 3 Apples and what else do I know.
    All of these fruits are in and of its self healthy, but packed in a smoothie they're less sating as a lot of fibre is lost and packed with fructose sugar naturally occurring in the fruit (which as far as I know is even worse for you than normal glucose as the body digests it differently )
    So you basically consume an insane amount of fruit with barely a thought and as everything else, in too high amounts fruit can also be bad for you.

    It's simple accounting why brands do this. They have a factory, advertising, sales costs, packing and shipping costs, overhead etc. If Trader Joes comes along and offers to buy a bunch of their product, in their own label, in bulk, as long as they have the capacity to produce and what trader joes is paying is more than the cost to produce, the name band have to do it. The name brands fix costs dont change, they dont have to pay for advertising, or selling costs, Trade Joe just picks it up.

    In America the list of ingredients is as follows;
    The 1st ingredient has the largest amount in measurement.

    If you are a dumpling fan, you have to go to H Mart, if you have one nearby. As much as I love TJs, I skip their dumplings for the aisle at H Mart.

    Bless your heart. You always pay more for name brand...for the same thing. And...as others have said ...look at the difference in packaging size, weight etc

    I agree on private label most of times is same quality as nanmed brands however you need to account the price per kilo or pound, also the worst was the piatachio, why didnt you get red apples (of same family to compare?), some things gonna taste pretty much the same no matter where you get them or how much you pay, paying more (on nuts or fruits/vegetable for example) most of time give a better product (bigger size, better color, better taste)

    Same products made with different brand labels that seem like competitive helps you capture the whole market. You have those who go to Walmart who don’t care about what the pay and just what’s the most convenient and then you have those who have less money or are just more frugal and don’t mind travelling to a specific Aldi or trader joes just to get that discount. It’s clever marketing😂

      I would agree. The bleaching probably makes more difference as far as taste goes than does organic vs non-organic.

    most places make the same exact things. just package it different. like store brands are usually the leftover ingredients of the brand name stuff

    A few things... for some of these products, there's not much wiggle room for how different something can be. Pistachios or fresh mozzerella for instance are all going to be approximately the same except the amount of salt. The prices are pretty much equivalent on many of these items once you account for price per ounce. There's obviously markup on certain brands but most often, the store brands are private labeled at any store. Target's market pantry, great value at Walmart, trader notes, aldi, Kirkland..... is all the same for the most part.

    I used to work in a Dessert factory and was shocked when I saw the same Desserts being potted and Sealed with Taste The Difference { a more expensive brand } and the normal ones were made exactly the same. It' sjust an illusion. Labels and packaging makes you pay more for the item !!!

    Why are so many complaining about comparing the same size weight., up to the mozzarella cheese and the weights are fairly similar…… and yes I worked in a food processor and mostly the private labels we produced for used the ingredients we used for our national brand. Only one that had any differences was the store in southeast US known for the color green and their subs…. we couldn’t use Mexico CoO ( country of origin ). He basically did a comparison of National Brands v Trader Joe private brand.

    The reason why branded and private label items are priced differently is because branded products have “marketing funds” built in. When their products go on sale at the store, the manufacturer needs to chip in and pay. I’ve been working in CPG products for over 15 years 😊

  • @JayofallTrades

    Many companies use the same manufacturer to market thier brand at a lower price. That is why you can find so many off brands of the same products they just are sold at a percentage difference because they are not the company's main brand. They alter the ingredients slightly but use the same facilities to manufacturer them.
    That is the same with trader Joe's. As a private brand, the California-based Trader Joe’s orders most of its products from third-party manufacturers (including giants like PepsiCo. and Snyder’s-Lance), which agree to sell some of their items under the Trader Joe’s label. Many of these brands sell the same or similar products under their own names for a higher price. The catch is that Trader Joe’s and its suppliers all but swear to keep the agreement secret. "Suppliers aren’t allowed to say they supply Trader Joe’s products,” Gardiner says, “and Trader Joe’s never willingly talks about who their suppliers are.”
